2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks @ Lakers

The Knicks continue their road trip through the Western Conference with a visit to Los Angeles to take on the LeBron-less Lakers.

Let’s go, Knicks!

58 is still theoretically possible, which is great!

Kinda feel like that Knicks/OKC game was a preview of the finals (and I like our chances!).

Let’s go!!

Bummed about LeBron, who knows how many more times we’ll see the guy and I’m too confident in our team to be happy about the advantage.

Mo Mo!

Lebron being out is arguably a plus for LA other than as a backup. They don’t need his scoring or playmaking with Doncic and Reeves on the court and he doesn’t defend well anymore.

Very unconvincing game so far. As in neither team seems convinced they wanted to play basketball today.

We need Jose…

was looking at the standings and noticed we’ve played like 15 more games against plus .500 teams this season than a lot of other clubs, like the pistons and lakers…

the fakers want to quit while playing against good teams, let’s help them…

The dividend of that is Knicks have 4th easiest remaining schedule. Of course if Mr Hyde version shows up, it might not matter.

thanks for reminding me d-mar, there’s an “above the rim” version of the broadcast…wonky camera angle – but, no announcers…

Fitting end to the quarter, give up a wide ass open corner 3pter Lakers drill then miss a wide ass open corner 3pter of our own at the buzzer.

I think the Lakers saw the Knicks scored over 140 against the Nuggets and resolved not to let that happen to them. Their defense looks energized and much better than their reputation.

i’m determined to cronin this in to existence, but the fakers are weak minded and limp willed…

no doubt dub for today…

like how MB is seperating jalen’s and KAT’s court time, they get like 12 to 15 minutes each game without the other on the court…

los angeles fakers – team most likely to let go of the rope at least a few times each game…late 3rd or early 4th maybe, they’ll just stop playing defense and give up on rebounding…

Most nights I don’t mind Doris, but she’s really licking the Lakers so far.

Admittedly there’s hardly anything good to say about the Knicks so far, but I’m still going without the sound going forward until and unless we get the lead.

oops, we appear to be the team currently letting go of the rope…

mitch mitchelling looks even more awesome from a camera angle above the rim, he takes up pretty much all the space beneath and around the rim…

If there is any reversion to the mean it’s the three point shooting from the last Knicks lakers game to this one.

Doris is right, the Lakers are doing a great job on defense making us miss wide open shots

We are still in it while playing low IQ basketball with foolish mistakes on both ends of the court. We don’t need to play great; we just need to get it together to an acceptable degree and take their confidence away. The Lakers are mediocre. A good team would be up by 20 right now.

Reaves gets a good whistle

We have missed a few bunnies that might end up the difference.

We have a resilient team though

mo looks way too happy out there playing defense against luka freaking doncic…

heck seems like such a heck of a student of the game…absorb coaching and manifest it…he’s a keeper…

We usually play a lot better in the 2nd half and the Lakers only have a 5 pt lead? Not looking good for them! 😀

sometimes reading through the game thread, it seems a tortuous and painful experience for some folks…

i’m unsuccessfully trying not to laugh about that…

Shooting 20% from 3, 11 assists, only down 5. Leveling up in 2nd half will make Geo’s prediction correct . Someone wake Mikal up

Good thing we are playing those Lakers and not a team like Boston this afternoon. I am ok with this score. It’s up to us to wake up in the second half and get the W.

The announcer just mentioned Bridges was hurt. What happened to him?

Just realized the time changed today in the US. That + matinee explains a lot of this, I think.

I wish the NBA would just eliminate the 3 pointer. All it does it add volatility to the results. It was fun in the beginning, but now it just annoys me. You can play great defense for 22 seconds and then get burnt by a tough 3 that punishes the defense or you can get endless open looks from 3 and miss and lose to an inferior team. I pretty much hate it at this point.

This Knicks team has an uncanny ability of making sure their fans don’t feel too good about them for an extended period of time…

I’m back now for the 2nd half… ouch, this isn’t looking good for us! 🙁

When Jake Laravia is dominating the glass you know your team is playing like shit

This one’s over. My kingdom for a little consistency … And is it time to sound the alarm on brunsons inefficiency?

34-20 quarter. The Lakers outplayed and outhustled us in every aspect of the game. What an embarrassment!

I don’t think it’s an effort problem. We can’t do shit on offense and Luka is hitting 3s from out of bounds.

Brown needs to start thinking of tomorrow’s game and managing minutes in what looks to be an L

I was ready to chalk it up as not our night, but now I’m mad we blew so many opportunities to get back in it

Isn’t there data re probability of Knicks winning that could guide Brown rather than asking Rick Brunson?

Missed a lot of easy shots in the first and the ball just kept bouncing that way.

Didn’t like that game from Brunson and why Brown kept him the whole 4th was truly bizarre. Alvarado didn’t have it this game, but if you’re gonna take a gamble on Clarkson (which worked) you can maybe play Kolek to spell Brunson. He just kept barreling into people hoping for a foul at the end (he isn’t getting those calls this year).

Too many dumb turnovers and simply not hitting shots.

Tomorrow they’ll probably hit 40% of their 3s and we’ll be happy again. This version of basketball is stupid.

Brunson reverted to the version of himself that is not optimal for the team. Bridges was terrible.

Also a lot of passing to the Lakers. That’s sub-optimal.

The whole game made me angry.

In the grand scheme of things this loss probably doesn’t mean much, especially if we win our next 3 road games against the Clips, Jazz and Pacers. I think we would have all signed up for a 4-1 trip.

What’s painful is losing to the fucking Lakers on national TV and enduring smiling Luka.

For some reason Brunson played 42 mins today, I would not be against sitting him tomorrow night. He’s been off lately too so he could probably use a couple of days off before the Knicks hit a stretch of 7 easy games in a row.

That embarrassing third quarter was the deciding factor this afternoon. They tried in the fourth but 19 point deficit was too much to overcome given the pressure they were feeling and how poorly they were shooting.

Bridges zero points???

Brunson was bad as well

Not winning when that happens

*also daylight savings time. Lose an hour of sleep and most likely out on the town on a Saturday night in L.A

Agree with Strat. Total reversion by Brunson. No coaching at all. Bridges the invisible man. He is so skilled but can flat out suck. Just a horrible effort and felt like exhibition game. I’m back to pessimism. It works better for sanity in the long run anyway.

Heat DESTROYING the Pistons.

I pray we don’t get to play against Spo in the first round.

Knicks played like they hot boxed the locker room before tipoff, and again at the half.

Just chalking this one up to an afternoon game on daylight savings. They’re normally not that sloppy, so I don’t think it’s worth overthinking.

Nice to see Clarkson with some decent minutes.

Went to go workout with the wife and then had to put the lil guy down for his nap. But I hate letting the Fakers get their lick back from us, esp since we all know they aren’t real contenders. And yes, the cackles from the trolls.

I have questions…

We all know Mike Brown’s real test is the playoffs. To that end, what I’d like to know is has he and this team developed enough flexibility to adapt and counter to practically any team out there? And yes that includes Detroit.

Can they do that 4 times out of 7, four times?

(My heart tells me they can esp if they get Duece back. I just don’t know if they’ve built enough strong evidence to really feel great about their chances)

Cdiggy, my condolences for the trolls. Makes a Lakers loss especially bitter.

I don’t know if that’s really the question. I think we’ve developed some great flexibility (and kudos to Brown for that). What we’re lacking is consistency. A great game, an absolute stinker (like today). I mean you can win 4 out of 7 if you start off with a strong game 1, but right now I don’t trust the team at all. We can be a machine that tears other teams to pieces, and we can be a doormat that can lose to anyone.

Not what I want to see as we careen toward the playoffs.

Eh, I view this game on a different lense . You have a bunch of rich athletes who only visit Los Angeles once a season usually and want to enjoy the weather and nightlife. The focus on this game wasn’t there. It’s no different when players go Miami either. A lot of players in season view these trips as a vacation.

Just look at Detroit tonight . They got lost in that Miami nightlife..
