In terms of KAT’s 3pt volume, one of two things is happening:
1. His coaches have rarely put him in a scheme designed to help him put up shot after shot from downtown; or
2. KAT just doesn’t want to shoot from distance that often.
Brown very clearly wants him to do it more often. So if KAT’s attempts don’t go up — or, worse, if Macri’s prediction comes true and his attempts go down — that’s either a failure of scheme or final confirmation that this is who KAT will always be on offense: brilliant, but not as brilliant as he could be, given his skillset.
Ouch! That’s a hot take here at Knickerblogger.net! KAT will attempt “greater than 5.0 and less than 5.5” three pointers per game this season.
Although shouldn’t it be “fewer?”
So according to realgm.com, Joel Embiid is “healthy” and will start the season and PG13 is “making significant progress” and should return shortly.
I get that these two guys breaking down as the season goes on is one of the surest bets in the NBA, but if the extreme outside chance that the Sixers are completely healthy going into the playoffs actually occurs, I sure as hell wouldn’t feel great about playing them.
Hmm, I like our chances against Philly. Take the 2024 series and add in a 36 year old PG and KAT?

First off, per 36, not per game.
Second off, thanks for yucking my yum. 😛
Third, you’re right about fewer. Changed.
wow his 3 attempts per 36 were up at 8.4 six seasons ago

The Sixers have added some intriguing pieces since then. I think Jared McCain is the real deal (if he can stay healthy!) and VJ Edgecombe is really good as well. Grimes, Bona, Drummond, and even Kennedy Chandler (who I liked at draft time) will give them a solid rotation. Lowry and Gordon are probably cooked, but they have plenty without them if they get lucky with health.
Which they almost certainly won’t, so whatever.
That 8.4 was in just 35 games. True high was 6.7 in ’21
I wonder if we’ll at least attempt to play a faster pace. We were 26th in pace last year and 28th in 3PAr. A faster pace alone would probably nudge KAT over the 5 3PA/36 mark.
even the 6.7 was only in 50 games if we use the nbas 65 game mark to constitute a season worth giving an award for it would have been 5.3 four seasons ago

Brown has been talking a lot about upping the pace, as have the players. The question is whether we’ve got the guys to do that with. It’s not even necessarily about straight line speed — where Hart and OG seem to be our only above-average guys — but about how these players like to play. Jalen’s among the most deliberate offensive players I’ve ever seen — even more than Melo with his 10,000 jab steps per possession. Even if Brown has Mikal or someone else take the ball up the court more quickly than Brunson dealing with a full-court press, will Jalen and everyone else be up for constant movement and quicker shots after the ball crosses the timeline?
The Sixers song is the same as it is every year, they’ll be very good if Embiid is healthy

It is true that new coaches often say things like “we want to play faster” or “we are going to shoot more threes”, and then their expressed wish doesn’t seem to happen. Probably the old coach also wanted those things but found the players weren’t capable enough or there were unacceptable side effects from changing (like maybe shooting more threes gave a lower percentage or fewer rebounds or both). That said, I suspect Brown’s offense is different enough from Thibs that some things will change. He also has a better, more offensively minded bench. Clarkson, Deuce and Yabusele all can and do shoot them. If OGs backup is Dadiet, he shoots threes too. I expect more threes from this and also expect more threes because if Mitch is healthy most of the season that will mean Towns is defended differently and has more freedom to roam away from the basket. So, our number of threes should go up, and KAT’s should go up, but maybe not by much.

That’s the way I felt about them last year too. I actually put a small “saver” wager on them last year just in case. This year I left them out, but they are probably still dangerous if they somehow manage to stay healthy.
I think every year in the last 5 the players talked about upping the pace. In a vacuum sounds like a good idea, particularly if you are in the bottom half of pace. But never really happened for a variety of reasons, some of which were good, or at least appropriate. New coach, new system, so I give the up tempo at least a half season to integrate without a re-set, but am skeptical whether that will be our optimal strategy. Injury-free, still predicting great things, regardless.
We’re starting at a very low baseline in both pace and 3PAr— bottom five in each. Seems like it shouldn’t be all that hard to goose those numbers a little bit. We’re not gonna SSOL the league to death, but it’d be nice to at least somewhat move away from Three Yards And A Cloud Of Dust.
sixers and clippers are basically the same team just on opposite coasts
Sixers might have the most dynamic guard rotation in the league, between Maxey, McCain, Edgecombe, and Grimes. You want to talk about pace, that group is terrifying.
Embiid will probably break in two just trying to keep up. Which is fine with me, as long as he doesn’t take Mitch down with him.
we’ll need to move jalen off the ball more to quicken our pace, jalen just likes to go slow…having a better second unit this season should also help…
