A friend with Yankee season tickets invited me a while back to join him for any one of this weekend’s games. I chose the finale, which turns out to be a pivotal contest in which there are three potential outcomes:
1. Yankees win, while Blue Jays lose, and the Stadium explodes in celebrating an improbable division win and a bye to the next round of the playoffs.
2. Yankees win, but so does Toronto, so we get to enjoy a victory while being disappointed that our struggles in the summer mean we have to go play a wildcard round in a few days.
3. Yankees lose, which means Toronto wins the division no matter what.
Hoping very much for option 1.
“As a year-long Dodgers fan should I be rooting for the Mets or the Reds tomorrow?”
The Mets have no juice and are starting three rookie pitchers who were just brought up a few weeks ago. Seems like a completely different team than last year, and not in a good way. But hey, you never know!
I don’t have a shred of skin in the AL MVP decision, but if I were to bet my money would be on Raleigh. I would guess that most non-Yankees fans would say the same. There’s just something very compelling about a catcher doing things that no catcher has ever done before.
I would agree with Yankees fans that Judge deserves it more based not only on the off-the-charts video game numbers and better than decent fielding, but on his impeccable larger-than-life personality. It really isn’t all that close.
But it’s partly an emotional award and Raleigh is the more compelling story.
What is the Berawang News that seems to be copying other’s content?
Cal has an MVP nickname and that might make the difference. The fact Judge has won already may also.
Apropos of nothing but the MLB leader for runs saved at SS is Mookie Betts, which may be the most improbable thing I have seen all season.
When Jokic lost out to Embiid for MVP a couple of years ago, part of the rationale was that a 3 in-a-row winner should have an NBA title to his name. So he duly won it. Hopefully the same silver lining happens if Judge comes in 2nd.
When you consider that Judge’s excellence almost single-handedly keeps Aaron Boone employed, the case for Raleigh is strong.
Taking my dad to the game today for his birthday. Bought tickets Thursday and was sweating all weekend that the game would end up not mattering. Thrilled we’re seeing some actual MLB baseball instead of the equivalent of 9 DaQuan Jeffries.
