It’s interesting that the four teams chasing Simmons seem to fall into two buckets. Two have respected front offices (Knicks, Boston) and two do not (Suns, Kings). That sort of mirrors the discussion here where some want Simmons snd some do not.

I also note that one of the articles linked above says that we are betting favorites to land Westbrook and also says that reports are that we are no longer interested in him. Betting odds are weird sometimes.

I don’t think Westbrook is a particularly good fit for us because he is is more redundant than either a swiss army knife like Simmons or not an efective PG at this stage. Wouldn’t be the worst use of that spot. His on/off was godawful in the playoffs, and he may have cost Denver.the series vs. OKC. OTOH, he was in an oversized role in that series against a team that was probably kryptonite for him, and actually played very well vs. the Clippers.

The through line in guys we’ve both acquired and expressed interest in this offseason seems to be their ability to improve our 3PAr, whether by taking and making 3s (Yabu) or by finding shooters (Clarkson, Simmons, Westbrook).

Some Denver/Westbrook stats from last season:

    3PT%
    Westbrook ON: .374
    Westbrook OFF: .378

(this is interesting because it indicates their 3PT% basically didn’t change with Westbrook on despite his own personal bricktitude, he shot .323 on 291 attempts)

    Corner 3 FG%
    Westbrook ON: .445
    Westbrook OFF: .392

    Arc 3 % Assisted
    Westbrook ON: .837
    Westbrook OFF: .785

    3PT FGM Assist %
    Westbrook ON: .870
    Westbrook OFF: .822

I think we opted for Clarkson over him (it’s hard to see how they could both be in the rotation) and that’s probably the right choice, but if I’m right and this is an area of focus that would make me very happy!

    ESPN:
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the practice field Thursday morning with an apparent lower leg injury.

Fields pulled up after rolling right and throwing an incomplete short pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert. Fields went down, sat on the ground briefly and limped off the field with the assistance of a trainer.

He spent a few minutes in the injury tent before a cart arrived on the scene. Fields was taken to the locker room, sitting in the passenger seat of the cart, before walking into the team facility.

Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract as a free agent, is the Jets’ undisputed starter. Tyrod Taylor replaced him in team drills.

the giants have some extra qbs they can part with jaxson dart russell wilson tommy devito jameis winston

hey ptmilo go fuck yourself a million times for that

(except that fields prob sux so whatever)

I think we opted for Clarkson over him (it’s hard to see how they could both be in the rotation)

I agree, and that’s what the press indicates. Once we got Clarkson we stopped being interested in Westbrook.

all ptm did was report about the injury he reported worst case and then reported much better actuality not sure why messenger is being shot

“all ptm did was report about the injury he reported worst case and then reported much better actuality not sure why messenger is being shot”

    mind your own fucking business

    @JonKrawczynski
Pablo is really highly thought of in Minnesota. Has been working closely with Rob Dillingham. Definitely something to watch.

    3

take it easy on zman he’s still a bit shook from the war of the worlds scare

i was heading somewhere to watch the opener a minute ago when my tire blew out. by the time i got it straight vinny t had blown his achilles and the season was over.

with the exception of the annoying kids…i liked the cruise version…i think i’ve watched it at least a dozen times…

Pelissero: No fracture in Justin Fields’ toe
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Justin Fields did not suffer a fracture in his toe that got stepped on in practice.

Advice: Head coach Aaron Glenn added that Fields should be okay. Pelissero noted that this is simply the “initial report” and the Jets are still gathering information on the injury. Still, Fields avoided the worst-case scenario after being carted to the locker room and further testing has indicated he avoided even the mildly negative outcomes. The toe injury will still cost him valuable practice reps as Fields looks to learn another new offense, but it doesn’t sound like he is at risk of missing any time during the regular season. Fantasy managers can cautiously resume drafting him as a low-end QB1. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

    much ado about nothing

    mind your own fucking business

Top O the mornin’ to you, too! Too much expresso? 🙂

Thankfully… it looks like it is ok to exhale.

“peeps get banned for that behavior i think”

Actually people most often get banned for persistently not knowing when to just shut the fuck up.

i dont think its that dear zman because some people post a lot that by itself doesnt seem to be bannable telling people to fuck themselves could be tho i wouldnt know

for example you yourself had 17.39 percent of all of yesterdays posts (8/46) seems like a lot for one person i post a lot on some days (other days not at all) but at least im nice about it when i do i think people ought to be able to post as much as they want to as long as theyre civil to others you and hubert are awfully mean to one another and everyone seems to be awful to lil penny

“i was heading somewhere to watch the opener a minute ago when my tire blew out. by the time i got it straight vinny t had blown his achilles and the season was over.”

was hanging with my kids at Pepsico in Purchase, NY and turned on the car radio to the game when the Vinny play happened.

Also old enough to remember this:

Joe Namath, the legendary New York Jets quarterback, suffered a severe knee injury in a preseason game on August 7, 1971, against the Detroit Lions in Tampa. This injury, considered by some to be the worst of his career, occurred when he attempted to tackle Lions linebacker Mike Lucci, who was returning a fumble for a touchdown. The hit from Lions linebacker Paul Naumoff during the tackle caused Namath to damage his left knee. The injury ultimately required Namath’s fourth knee surgery and would force him to miss the majority of the 1971 season. While he returned to play for several more seasons, his mobility was significantly impacted, contributing to further injuries and potentially shortening his career.

    and this…

The Jets’ worst fears were realized Monday when they learned that Chad Pennington tore the rotator cuff in his surgically repaired right shoulder during Sunday’s 26-20 overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and would be lost for the season.

It feels like the Jets truly made a deal with the devil in fulfilling Namath’s guarantee.

    NFL.com (September 12, 2023):
Aaron Rodgers’ aspirations for resurrecting the New York Jets lasted just four snaps.

Rodgers’ and the Jets’ cruelest fears were realized on Tuesday as an MRI revealed he suffered a torn left Achilles in Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills and will miss the remainder of the 2023 season, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Rodgers’ injury when he met with the New York media on Tuesday afternoon. Rodgers was officially placed on injured reserve later in the day, the team announced.

“I feel more for Aaron than anyone,” Saleh said. “He has invested so much into this organization. So much into this journey that he’s embarked on and wanting to be part of what we’ve got going here, and how much he’s invested into not only this organization but his teammates, himself, this fanbase, this city. I have a lot of emotions for him. … It’s really all about him. It is. I don’t look at it like woe is me here for (the) New York organization. I think guys are excited about being able to step in and continue the things we’ve been building. But a lot of hurt for Aaron.”

“for example you yourself had 17.39 percent of all of yesterdays posts (8/46) seems like a lot for one person”

thanks for providing that statistic, I’m sure everyone was wondering about it.

“i post a lot on some days (other days not at all) but at least im nice about it when i do”

Thanks for letting us know, we were wondering about that as well.

“i think people ought to be able to post as much as they want to”

    Great idea! Let’s try that!

“you and hubert are awfully mean to one another and everyone seems to be awful to lil penny”

And yet some poor, misunderstood soul like Doogie is the one to get banned. What a world!

Also old enough to remember this:

bit too late for that one but i worked as a grunt a few training camps for the jets when i was in undergrad and got life advice from joe namath more than once on airport runs when he was visiting camp

no problem whatsoever very happy to help put things into a better perspective for you hope youre having a great day zman 🙂

It seems today and the last few days has produced even more negativity and mean-spiritedness here. Lets just have fun, express our respectful opinions and remember we all want the Bockers to succeed. 🙂

hulk hogan dead political comment redacted

the mean spiritedness has been much worse in the past than it has been over the past few days nick

I think the occasional F U is a perfectly acceptable communication on this thread, in some ways livening things up.

The only problem is when it descends into a thread-long sniping with another poster, often over long-dead arguments that are de-scabbed and re-bled, to the detriment of all.

It’s not about how often you post, it’s whether your posts can be honestly considered to be moving the conversation forward, regardless of how silly the topic might be, rather than a pointless effort at exercising your right to post something even if it’s a dead end for all.

As for F U’s, you may remember Doogie that I gave you one no longer ago than yesterday, although it was couched in not-really-more-polite language. I will, however, admit that I spent a considerable amount of time afterward imagining beating you to death in person with the corpse of my also very annoying cat for making me see something I will never be able to unsee. And you KNEW not to post that, you yourself have talked about it many times yourself, you just couldn’t help yourself, could you.

    Cue Billy Joel.

I know. I have been a long time visitor/reader, and sometimes poster. I do love this place and I have learned a lot about the game and players from you all.

Hulk Hogan’s passing brings back so many memories growing up. Body slamming Andre, and turning bad in NWO. Hall of Famer both as a good guy and bad guy.

I’m working on grunge homage to boomer curmudgeons. Calling it smells like mean spirit.

“and got life advice from joe namath more than once on airport runs when he was visiting camp”

Pray tell? You opened this, happy for you and Joe to keep it between you two,.. but any tidbit for a Knicks blog?

I think pamplemousse is easily the best lacroix

Whoa whoa whoa, Clarence. Don’t say incendiary things like this that you can’t take back.

[Written by me, a guy who only drinks still water]

Strictly as words, I like both “pamplemousse” and “parapluie.” They sound like words should sound, IMHO.

I couldn’t hold back… I’ve been sitting here working on my abacus trying to count minutes and write down allocations cuz “where will we find the gat dang minutes” but that was it. Where did all the minutes go?

    the minutes went here:
    starters: brunson (34) bridges (30) anunoby (32) towns (34) robinson (24)
    dynamic bench: hart (22) mcbride (18) yabusele (16) clarkson (12) hukporti (10) wright (8)
the rest: mccullar kolek beauchamp diawara

    pg: brunson 34, wright 8, mcbride 6
    sg: bridges 24, mcbride 12, clarkson 12
    sf: anunoby 32, hart 10, bridges 6
    pf: towns 20, yabusele 16, hart 12
    c: robinson 24, towns 14, hukporti 10

have two of anunoby robinson mcbride on the floor at all times except for of course blowout minutes thats where mccullar kolek beauchamp diawara come into play

I guess the offseason is when Doogie decides to re-litigate his banning, even though he never actually left. Makes sense.

In actual news, Givony is leaving ESPN. Sounds like they lowballed him on a new contract.

Geo, that’s some good advice. I gave a mild version of it to my son — I didn’t want to say “your mother and I met when we were 19 and had no idea what life was about and were too young to get married and ultimately it was just heartbreak and lost time.” But it was something he needed to hear, so it came out kind of like “dating lots of different people helps you figure out who you are.” Bless those who understood themselves at age 20; I know I’m still working on it.

Well I’m feeling very Bill Russell/Rod Laverish for 2026. I might change my name to Knicks 2026.

    Rip chuck Mangione 🙁

you know rama, I always feel slightly slighted when I think back on the romance/sex in my life stuff…

I got started late, early 20’s, had a decent 10 year run hooking up with ladies, but early in my 30’s my health was so poor, romance wasn’t much an option for a long time…

seriously, the current phase I’m in now might be the most romantically satisfying ever…

ha, imagining some of our younger lurkers thinking: ugh, old people fucking, how gross 😊

The Athletic’s write up of the best players in summer league is a veritable who’s who of the players we could have drafted* last year:

    Too good for summer league

Kyle Filipowski, Utah Jazz: Though abetted somewhat by summer league’s more liberal foul-out rules (he finished with eight personals in two different games, because in Vegas you get 10 before fouling out), Filipowski, who was named summer-league MVP on Monday, was probably the best second-year player I saw. He dropped a 32-6-5 line on Charlotte and 35 points and 11 rebounds on San Antonio before Utah shut him down. His launch rate from 3 (23 attempts in his final three games) is an encouraging sign that he’ll lean harder into his stretch capability for the regular season.

Terrence Shannon Jr., Minnesota Timberwolves: Shannon got in three summer games before the Wolves shut him down, scoring 68 points in 88 minutes and standing out athletically. Of note is how often he launched from 3, taking 26 of his 42 attempts from beyond the arc. If Shannon can become a reliable volume 3-point shooter, it’s much easier to see him filling the wing minutes vacated in Minnesota by Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s departure.

Ajay Mitchell, Thunder: OKC’s second-year pro showed a lot of encouraging signs as he was usually the best player on the court during his six summer games. Mitchell created offense with ease and had high rates of rebounds and defensive events to go with a smoother-looking stroke than he showed a year ago. Nitpickers will point out a turnover rate that was still too high.

But hey who needs a quality backup PG that can play defense, an athletic 6-6 scoring wing, and a stretch 5 off the bench? Definitely not us.

    * technically we did draft Mitchell at 38

Damn, I listened to Live at the Hollywood Bowl every day for months when I was a kid, loved the shit out of it. One of the guys I later recorded with played bass for Chuck (amazing bassist) and said he was a great guy, very generous. I’m bummed.

Glad to hear you’ve got good things happening, Geo. If I ever make another album I may need to call it “old people fucking.”
