2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Grizzlies: Time to Shut Up Some Critics

The Knicks have gotten some shit for not beating the very best teams, and the Grizzlies are one of the best teams around, so a nice ass-whooping of the Grizzlies tonight would make me very, very happy.

Beat them so badly that Matt Ryan plays 15 minutes off of the bench!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Winning 58 sure would be great!

If OG plays over 40mins, it will be his 3rd highest minute total for a season in his career.

Apparently Butler walked out bc the Heat told him he was going to come off the bench and Haywood Highsmith would take his place in the starting lineup.

I’m sorry, Miami, but come on. That’s like taking Milton’s red stapler after you already moved him to the basement.

Yeah Hubie, Riley is an asshat (can I call anyone that anymore?), but c’mon, Butler could have scored 30 off the bench, showing up the front office and, you know, helping his teammates.

It’s about as unprofessional behavior as I’ve seen.

Glad we’re a team. Let’s go Knicks!

That’s like taking Milton’s red stapler after you already moved him to the basement.

I had a real life experience like that.

I was once moved from a nice office to the floor “so I could be closer to the tech people with whom I often worked”. I was very unhappy about that, but when the finance guy came out on the floor and took my stapler I almost lost it.

Sometimes man management means you have to do a stupid challenge just because your star wants one ….

Good start! A convincing win here would move the needle on my outlook for this team.

LFG!

The Knicks don’t look like a mezzanine team so far.

Is that kid JB just faked out of his shoes the one people were saying was going to lock him up?

Mikal does Jokic for the touchdown!

OG smart enough to not try and lay it in.

A well-rested Knicks team is looking pretty gosh darn good.

Clyde keeps vacillating between Ja, Jar, and Jaw.

Brandon Clarke outplaying the entire Knicks bench.

Drink bleach, Jowles.

Brunson pounding the ball because nobody else has anything on the second unit., should probably still pass more.

Deuce needs to get back to form.

Shamet has had some decent looks he bricked.

Precious, that was a beautiful move and an awful attempt at finishing

Wait, they have both JJ Jackson and GG Jackson? That’s just stupid.

Can they stop praising the bench which has given up almost the entire lead at this point?

Wait, they have both JJ Jackson and GG Jackson? That’s just stupid.

No, it’s J Jackson J. But still yes

Well it was fun for the first 5 mins at least.

Don’t forget that NBA is a game of runs! 😉

Yikes, Memphis looks sloppy. I fully expect them to make a run because they are a good team but as Clyde would say there have been some ghastly passes.

I would really like to see some vintage KAT soon, my DEFCON level about his thumb is not where I’d like it to be

As an innings eater, Precious has gone from Sidney Ponson

That’s a name I haven’t heard in awhile. I used to call him Sidney Pondscum.

Knicks City Dancers are superb athletes, but the Knicks City Kids have a better choreographer these days.

I am happy Thibs stuck with the bench through the rough patch.

shamet is too short, we need someone taller in his rotation spot…

You could open a beer bottle on at least three different parts of Aldama’s face.

KAT gets mauled on every drive and Brunson has four fouls, high level comedy from the refs.

If the Grizzlies are nice enough to keep turning it over we might be able to weather the Brunson foul issue and the KAT sucking issue

Eight point lead at the half. Quite entertaining. Bit nerve-wracking, too.

Guess I shouldn’t be mad at an 8 point lead against one of the best teams in the league… and yet we could’ve been up so much more

Good half, could have been better, the defense has picked up in the last couple of games.

I’m worried about KAT’s hand.

You know Ja is gonna come out aggressive so we gotta maintain and keep getting good shots. KAT gotta stop forcing it and either let others score or catch and shoot

Am i the only one that is liking the game? All i read is about something the team is doing bad.

Can’t watch, came on to see how it looks, laughing that we’re up 15 and it’s mostly “why do we suck?”

The last couple of games the Knicks look so much more engaged on defense. It’s like a switch went on or something

Especially Bridges.

The Knicks are playing so well. Memphis’ hot shooting from deep this quarter and the refs are the only thing stopping this from being a 25+ blowout.

Yeah Knicks aren’t losing this game tonight. Helluva response.

On to Mezz Madness Elite Eight!!

But seriously, because we are all biased: do the Knicks complain a lot or do they get a bad whistle (or option c, both)?

Bridges beginning to show why he had the reputation of being a very good defender.

Fresher legs make for better defenders

P.S. Moses Brown with a nice 30-21 double-double for the Westchester Knicks.

Wow. I’m stunned how much we’re dominating. Not good when Clyde says for the opposing team it’s embarrassing and it looks like these guys are quitting. Good for us tho!

The Knicks complain a LOT.

But Towns could probably have a foul called on everything that’s not a three.

And the refs are really letting stuff go. On both sides.

P.S. Moses Brown with a nice 30-21 double-double for the Westchester Knicks.

I’ve watched like 8 minutes of Westies but he’s had some nice games by the box scores

Won’t happen largely because of ol’ PPG but Josh Hart is a deserving all star

Hart was 4th in votes by players for guards

@marechal

IMHO some of our players whine too much but KAT gets way less whistles than he deserves and the refs in general are having a bad season.

Come on guys, keep this lead above 20.

IMHO some of our players whine too much but KAT gets way less whistles than he deserves and the refs in general are having a bad season.

I’ve been quite annoyed with the refs this season, but it could just be that I have not adjusted my expectations to how they are calling games. But it does look like some Knicks are getting a particularly bad whistle.

Watching the defense when our starting wings sit down makes me think Mitchell Robinson will be a very welcome addition to this unit.

Grizzlies are hibernating and Knicks are rampaging” – best Clyde rhyme of the season

They were this close to putting this game away, now the Grizzlies are one small run away from making this a game again.

That bench shift low key kind of just put the game away. It’s 11-5 in the fourth. Not pretty but I’ll take +6

Knicks overcoming the refs as well. How was that not a foul on OG from Eden?! After some ticky tack fouls on the other end.

Maybe the bookies wanted a closer game

Doom and gloom on the thread, checks score – up by about 20

Don’t try to understand it, Rama, i don’t understand it either. 😉

Not sure how Eddey was not called for a foul on OG after all the tick tack calls earlier.

I don’t think this actually happened, but I’m going to start a rumor that Deuce took Edey down after Edey walloped OG for no call.

They were both on the ground on the other end. So why not.

I’ve never felt more aggrieved by the whistle in a 24 point lead. Grizzlies employ the “they can’t call a foul on every play” defense.

Glad Thibs stuck with the bench again…they came through after a rough start to the 4th quarter.

In think we can confidently say that the short slump we were in was primarily due to that really tough short handed loss in OKC followed by the B2B in Chicago. They were simply tired.

No mezzanine here folks!

When this team is healthy and fresh they VERY GOOD!

Not going as I expected and totally fine with it

Nice dunk from Precious

The bench lives!!!

Has anyone noticed that Bridges is playing better defense also?

Holy shit!!!!!

Our SRS is going to go through the roof! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ja tried to pump fake OG. The result was predictable.

OG can barely leave the floor to dunk, forget jumping around on defense, he plants and waves his arms around everywhere…

I don’t want to hear that long and lanky athletic bullshit anymore.

Grizzlies got dogged tonight.

3:55 left, OG and Mikal out. Thanks, Thibs! (Could’ve been better; could’ve been worse.)

Kolek 2 assists in about 1 minute…….and *why* did we just take a timeout?

As for Memphis, we are likely to get creamed tonight – they’ve been outstanding this year. If KAT can’t hit from the outside, I didn’t think we have a chance.

What dumbass said that?

“As for Memphis, we are likely to get creamed tonight – they’ve been outstanding this year. If KAT can’t hit from the outside, I didn’t think we have a chance.
What dumbass said that?”

I didn’t say that, but I have to admit that I thought that we’d be in for very tough sledding tonight. I was very, very wrong, and am glad to be.

This game confirms my belief that if the bench can just hold serve it would make such a big difference for this team’s success.

Just for the record, the Knicks passed the eye test tonight. We don’t need stats. 😉

Very tasty win against a good team, great team effort.
Our silky sofa on the mezzanine isn’t a bad place to be.

Whenever the Knicks struggle again this season I’ll just re-watch this game to remind me how good they can be.

If the bench can just show out by playing competently and Thibs can show faith in them, it will propel this team to a whole other level. I believe there is a ripple effect of having them out there giving the starters a spell.

A little too quick, Rockets

Tatum 3 for the win, probably?

Edit: ha, just a 2. But also too quick!

1 game behind Boston.

Boston in the mezzanine! 🤪🤪🤪

Can we please talk about something more relevant – RJ had 17 points on 18 shots tonight.

I don’t think we’re in the mezzanine. We’re on the ground floor.

Strat, watch your stapler!

I am happy that I got exactly what I wanted.

I should go play the lottery tonight.

I mentioned that I bought my Knicks-loving daughers tix for tonights game…needless to say, this dad is in pretty good standing for a minute!

Best Clyde call tonight was after the Deuce reachback dunk: THE LILLIPUTIAN WITH THE MASTER BLASTER!

In fact, this was a Clyde-Breen masterpiece, and it’s heartbreaking to think we are getting close to the end of that era…

Looks like Dillon Brooks and Amen Thompson destructed the Celts…69 points on 42 shots.

Joking aside, RJ did other things and seems to have had a decent game. But unless he becomes a good 3 point shooter and solid on D, he’ll never be great. Hope he gets there someday, but….

Meanwhile Scottie Barnes has an on/off of 33 points. He may be somewhat more important to Toronto than ole RJ….

RJ Barrett will never be on the level of Tyler Kolek.

So it is written. So shall it come to pass.

My wife is sort of forcing me to watch Severance with her. I’m done with episode 3 and it’s not grabbing me yet. Just so fucking weird.

What’s interesting about the Celts game is that they had a 12 point lead with 8:38 left and choked it up in front of their home crowd. Amen with the dagger.

Z-man, I will say that it’s a bit sluggish at the start of the series, in part because the scenes set outside the office are pretty tedious. But it’s one that really kicks into gear as it goes, and the first season finale is one of the most exciting episodes of TV I have ever seen.

Huge Knicks win against a good team and a brutal Celtics loss is about to.75 of a playoff win for me

*to be fair, the Celts were w/o White and Horford. But they certainly haven’t been playing hungry of late.

Watched episodes 1 and 2 of Season 2 of Severance, and it’s still really good. Hasn’t lost its mojo.

Got my mother to watch “Severance” with me because she’s always giving me a hard time about “all that science-fiction you like.” She was ready to bail after a couple episodes, stuck around, now she won’t stop pushing for us to start season 2 (while I like to build up a backlog so I’m not waiting week-to-week). Told her next Friday we jump back in.

Ja was a -41.

jjj was a -33

meanwhile, mikal +43, OG +41…hard to make any “statements” in january, but , oh boy what a preview of those two players’ potential…
