2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Kings: All-NBA Statement Game

Domantas Sabonis is one of Towns and Brunson’s rivals for the All-NBA second team, so it would be nice to see them kick his ass tonight.

And, of course, I would love a three-game winning streak!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Sabonis doesn’t seem to be the strongest looking guy in the NBA, he looks like a normal very fit (and very tall) guy, but he spooks me cuz I sort of think he’s made of iron.

Oh yeah, and LET’S GO KNICKS!!!

Let’s Go Well Rested Knicks! 🏀💙🧡💙🏀

@KBA I’m glad you like the city, you’ve been lucky with the people you have met so far, I wish you keep drinking the kool aid 😉

KAT with two good moves without hitting the close shots, I think the hand is really a thing…

I swear I saw Mike Brown in the background on the broadcast when they announced the starters lol

The obligatory lazy bridges pass is out of the way early

I hate it and it makes him looks so disinterested…

Wait, their coach played for the Knicks? 😮

You don’t remember Doug and his rather intense wife?

During the preseason I thought we’d get a handful of Landry Shamet Games this season, so we’re definitely due for the first

You don’t remember Doug and his rather intense wife?

Is he from my time (i follow the Knicks since 1990)? Although on the first seasons of my fandom, we got very few games here in Portugal. From 1995 on, we started to get a lot more NBA games on TV around here.

13 pt lead… Nice! I predicted we would dominate from start to finish… so far so good! 🙂

Doug Christie was traded by the Knicks in a cap saving move for the immortal Willie Anderson.

Christie was with the Knicks in the mid 90s for a couple years, so you probably caught some of his career. He didn’t play much though.

“Is he from my time”

He had brief cameo as a deep bench player for the Knicks. There was absolutely no indication that he would become the excellent player he was with the Vlade Kings. Sort of like Matt Barnes.

I’ll always hate Anthony Carter for his illegal game winning shot against the Knicks in Game 3 of the 2000 playoff series vs Miami.

Thanks. Looks like he didn’t catch my eye. LOL

Side note, Payne is third on the Knicks in FGA/36 at around 15 per game (min. 400 minutes). Only JB and KAT take more.

Malik Monk has worked his way into the pantheon of good players we could have drafted over you know who…

Loving what I am seeing from OG

Can we please talk about something more relevant, like RJ Barrett ?

Thanks. Looks like he didn’t catch my eye. LOL

Do you remember when Don Nelson was the coach? He thought that playing Doug Christie more was the key to making the knicks great again. (They both got fired after roughly 50 games.)

The guy really loves to shoot. We all have our addictions

Basketball shooters anonymous meeting… Hello, i’m Cam and i don’t shoot the basketball since yesterday! 😀

Think I’ll be watching Saturday Night’s Main Event for the rest of the evening…

I’ve lost count of the bunnies and layups we missed and why did we decide to accept their favorite pace?

Clearly off Sabonis

And yeah, I don’t believe in pace too much but it felt like the court tilted there way at a certain point

Absolutely horrible rotations by Thibs. OG clearly gassed. Needed to sit for 2 minutes. Thibs blind. No timeout to stop the run. Missed an opportunity to challenge the offensive foul on KAT that was a bad call. Terrible coaching

Hart and Towns non defense a big reason Kings are back in this game. Monk and Sabonis get whatever they want.

Bench was playing well but don’t tell that to Thibs

Yeah, i remember, but somehow i don’t remember Christie. We only had one game a day at that time, and it wasn’t always the Knicks of course.

100% agree on terrible rotations. Bench was playing well and instead of giving them extended minutes, Thibs immediately went back to the starters and exhausted them. He’s had such an awful feel for the game and when to take out/bring in players.

I’d think Towns is still struggling with his finger a bit but he’s rebounding well. It can’t be too bad.

Went to check the 1995-96 Knicks and Christie played 23 games. I also don’t remember Brad Lohaus (!?) and he also played 23 games, while managing to start 7 games. And the same applies to JR Reid, that played 33 games and started 16. With this many starts, i probably should remember him, but i don’t.

Lohaus and Reid were picked up right before the trade deadline as the Knicks made a couple of moves to give themselves more cap space for the summer of 1996, mainly by trading Charles Smith.

Actually they both might’ve been acquired in the same trade from San Antonio for Smith.

Doug Christie played for the Knicks with my number… and now that i know this, he’s earned my respect! 😀

Thanks, BBA. I have to study the 90s teams, or else i’ll lose trivia questions about low minutes players. 😉

Something is wrong with Hart. He’s getting blown by and is showing very low energy. Wasn’t he questionable with a knee injury?

Bad to give up that bucket after the OG three

How many families have had a player in both the NBA and NFL?

Pretty cool for the anunobys

Toney Douglas! Holy smokes. There are a few

I remember JR Reid elbowed AC Green in the face for basically no reason that year. Even Knicks fan booed him.

Thibs probably made him run a couple of marathons on his days off. 😜

Allowing a basket like this after a made one is unbelievable…

I think this team is prone to think the game is easy. We started so well and they switched to the we’ll win this whenever we want, so relax. I have to say i don’t like it.

Toney Douglas! Holy smokes. There are a few

Toney Douglas, the only player to have played for my 2 favorite teams. 🙂

This is some of the dumbest basketball of the year so far this game. I’m getting sick of this shit. Dumbasses!

i wonder how the knicks coaching staff video guy feels. probably produces video on all the oppossing 3pt threats… meanwhile thibs and the team ignore them

I know it’s something I can’t afford, but..
WTF IS JOEY CRACK WEARING?

Odd color choice for that type of fit

Kings might play the worst defense ever but the game plan of pushing the pace is smart because they know Thibs starters will be tired at the end.

Lots of folks here felt that Russ was getting his rebounds in some unauthentic way. I always thought he just did what we see Josh Hart do every game.

Max…saw that Borgen deal….ranger blog was kind of divided….but if he is a 2nd pair defenseman….4 million aav is pretty fair…

Smart move by Bridges pointing out the bent rim to give him and the rest of the starters more rest.

Pepper, I agree but I think they again put too much trade protection (full NTC next year, 15 teams and then 10).

OTOH Drury’s cold blooded SOB as the Goodrow and Trouba cases show.

I’m curious to see what he’ll do with Miller.

Thibs must be getting really pissed off about all the rest these guys are getting.

Nice to see Kings players messing around with the Knicks players during the delay trying to figure out the issue

Clyde: “Fox should be the one complaining about the basket, he’s 5 for 16” LOLOL

Watching the Knicks play defense makes me think they all have a bet on the “over”.

Thibs couldn’t give the bench 2-3 more minutes with a 13 point lead???? Smh

thought we could use mitch for a game like this but I think Sabonis used to fuck him up

I guess I should forgive Josh for that idiotic momentum-killing turnover on a simple swing pass…

Knicks defense in the 2nd half has been pretty good, Kings with only 38 pts so far with 8 mins left after scoring 67 in 1st half.

Pretty nice game except for the second quarter

Also Kings have gotten a couple of wide open 3s due to loose balls created by Knicks blocking a shot and deflecting a pass that almost lead to a steal.

I am picking up on a better connection and some better body language between Bridges and OG. That would be a huge plus if it’s not just my imagination.

WTF is Towns doing in there?

Someone should put Thibs in a straitjacket and get him the help he needs.

What’s dumber, KAT being in or KAT deciding to drive full bore to the hoop against scrubs twice?

I prefer Doogie correcting grammar than reading about the bitching and whining about the starters mins…

Good question Z-man 😄

Good win, 2nd quarter aside, the Kings’ defense is a pleasure to play against.

Woulda been nice to just stay up 20 the whole time but they gotta make it interesting, glad they fought back.

while still talking about how they just got rest and were able to run…

4 tough games coming up: grizz, nuggs, lakers, and then rockets, teams 2 through 5 in the western conference standings…those are all at home…

next back to back is after the rockets game at toronto…

KAT just wanted to get his 20 before he came out. You could see him yelling “you didn’t have to foul!” at Payne right before Jericho came in.

I would like Matt Ryan to get into more games, please.

By virtue of the Knicks destroying the other team, of course.

Any Matt Ryan appearance in a win makes me so happy.

Hooray for destroying the Kings!

Is this the first time all season that OG and Bridges have simultaneously had a good game?

It’s scary to think we still haven’t had a game where all 5 players have been clicking. Usually someone is off. How many points do we score if KAT’s thumb is hurting?

Brian, funny you’re a Matt Ryan fan. I struggle with him, his huge head and jutting jaw keeps making me think that iHart is still here, just shorter. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

Interesting to have a game where the only two players we can complain about are Cam and Deuce.

In the Sherman Abrams NBA Game of the Week, the Hornets started 75 year-old Taj Gibson and still “lost” by 31…
