2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Magic: Thank You, Schedule-Makers!

The Knicks thankfully get the Magic again at an ideal moment, coming off of two tough losses.

This should get them back in the win column, even with a gimpy KAT.

Let’s go, Knicks! It’d be great to get back to a pace for 58!

KAT and Deuce (plus Mitch) are out, so we’ve only 14 available players tonight …

OTOH the Magic’s injury situation is so bad even their equipment manager is out with a sore knee…

Let’s be clear: a loss would be unacceptable.

LET’S GO KNICKS! 🤕💙🧡💙🤕

Well, the good news is we may get to see a few minutes of Huk…

I’m more afraid of what Thibs might do tonight than I care about whether we win or lose.

Prediction: We lose because the dropoff from KAT to Sims is comparable to the dropoff the Magic get from losing their top 5 players. Compounding that, our 4 remaining NBA players are banged up and tired.

Bonus prediction: OG goes down this game and we never see the entire starting 5 healthy for the rest of the season. When we’re watching a skeleton crew battle to a first-round exit in May, we can point to January 4 as the moment Thibs killed our season.

I believe that’s the moment Pags killed our season.

Huk Huk!!!

Wow, the Magic are so depleted that the boxscore I’m watching only shows 4 starters for them lmao

Our powders from long range are still wet…

It’d be nice to hit a three here and there…

is og the worst jump passer in nba history

There’s always Julius Randle.

I’ve never thought that Klay was anything other than a shooting guard. The fact that he usually starts with Luka and Kyrie matters not.

Missing two free throws is the second worst thing Jonathan Isaac has ever done on January 6th

OT

Last night I was watching Jason Shaw (one of the best pool players in the world) try to break the straight pool (14.1) record for most consecutive balls made. He was playing great and had a few nice runs, but nothing threatening the record. At about 11:00 he started another run and really started to roll: 200…300…400…500. I was exhausted, but I couldn’t got to bed with the record within sight. He ultimately shattered the record and wound up with 832 before finally missing at 3:00 AM.

On rack 37 he made a break shot but had no next shot. It looked like it was over. Everyone thought it was over including him. Then he made one of the greatest shots I’ve ever seen given the pressure and circumstances and continued on to 59+ racks. What a night.

He’s playing again tonight with a long term goal of 1000. Live streaming.

I’ve never seen this level of skill and I’ve seen everybody including Mosconi.

don’t get an ego about it max i literally cajoled og into a jump pass assist today

Prediction: Pagliacci will be an insufferable asshole during the game thread.

If you don’t take him seriously, he does have a sort of King Leonidas. Judah Maccabeus or Essene characteristic , like a rabid dog with his teeth sunk into a Peter Lugar steak.

Carter with the turnover of the year so far (it’s January 6th)

Payne is very intent in increasing his usage…

Not sure who “Carter” is here. Jimmy unfortunately just recently passed.

I hope Shamet hits a shot soon, otherwise we’re gonna see a 5-man January rotation

Not sure who “Carter” is here. Jimmy unfortunately just recently passed.

Is there a German term for someone who exposes themselves as an idiot by trying to expose other people as idiots?

Not sure who “Carter” is here.

“Blind eyes could look at me and see the truth
Wonder if Stevie do?” -Mr. Carter

Would OG Anunoby for Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett work in the trade machine?

Jericho is good for at least two moving screens called per 36

Nope. And spelling people’s names wrong *on purpose* is without a doubt idiotic!!! 🙂 (This is not what is happening with “Carter.”)

why does it feel like we’re gonna need to get lucky to win tonight…hats off to the magic for being so competitive all season…

Yikes. We’re gearing up for the usual 4th quarter collapse against a horrendous team without even bothering to build a lead first.

46 wins here we come. This team would eat us alive in a series at full strength.

Even without Paolo (6’10”), Franz (6’10”), Mo (6’11”) and Suggs (6’5” PG) we’re undersized against the Magic 🤓

Missing two free throws is the second worst thing Jonathan Isaac has ever done on January 6th

I don’t know what Jonathan Isaac did on Jan 6th, but I’d sure like to have his 14 minute bench production tonight….

This team would eat us alive in a series at full strength.

That’s why they play the games to be sure, but if we’re honest, there’s no real reason to believe the Hawks can’t do to the Knicks in a 7 game series what they did in the Cup quarterfinal (and to a lesser extent that earlier game in Atlanta.)

Kudos to Bridges for always getting the heave off. I think Brunson intentionally held it a beat too long the other night.

Thibs is like a guy who enters the World Series of Poker main event with the sole objective of having theosy chips at the end of day 1.

Carter with the turnover of the year so far

Then Doogie tops it seconds later

They don’t even try to shoot 3s anymore. It’s so weird. Brunson could have pulled up a few times and just didn’t.

Is there a German term for someone who exposes themselves as an idiot by trying to expose other people as idiots?

Schadendufus

The Magic are shooting 19% from 3 in the first half and that makes this the third game in a row our opponent is shooting way above their normal rate.

OG seeing Brunson & Bridges FGA and saying “I’ll have some of that” (including %)

Knicks look like they’d rather be on a beach somewhere drinking fruity drinks. I think they need a vacation from basketball.

Bad shooting, bad defense and a lot of ammunitions for the “this isn’t a well coached team” crew…

Meanwhile horrible no-pass possession by Brunson…

Knicks will probably come back and win, but honestly not a particularly meaningful data point even if they don’t. Monday night in January with a bunch of important players on both teams missing.

They went from top offense in the league like 10 games ago to shooting fadeaway midis and refusing to fire from deep. What is even happening?

What’s happening is we peaked in December and it’s all downhill from here. 46 wins.

We need to shut down Brunson at this point. Has not looked right since the double nickel. Let’s just punt 10 games and start over

We’re gonna need some hero ball from Brunson in the 4th quarter but tonight I’m not sure he has it in him.

They’re shooting 18.8% from three. Last thing you want is them hoisting more of them.

Put Kolek in. I bet he could hit a few.

Anthony trying to add Brunson’s fibula to Ivey’s that he shattered the other night. Dude’s a menace.

This season went from “imagine where we’d be without Mikal Bridges” to “imagine where we’d be without Mikal Bridges” in opposite ways

If you put Cole Anthony and Coby White in the same backcourt, they’d beat the Knicks by 50 points.

How much worse could guys like Kolek, Toppin and Hukporti be than Payne, Shamet and Sims?

At least they’d play hard and we’d get a good look at them.

Sims is fun. He’s fun to watch jump, and he’s even more fun trying not to shoot.

For an allegedly great offensive team we sure get neutered by any adversity at all. This 8 point gap may as well be 80.

Being held to under 90 points at home by a g league squad is just so us.

For the love of God Thibs play Kolek I’m begging you

Magic do have some good defenders. Anthony Black is a terrific perimeter defender.

Missing both free throws. Oh dear

Well it’s time for lunch, so I can put myself out of my misery. Time to jump on the fire thibs bandwagon now.

Not shooting 3s because you have missed a bunch of 3s is the definition of gambler’s fallacy.

My bad. 15%.

We need SIms back out there. Precious with a series of brain fart defensive plays.

Totally worth it to have KAT on the floor during garbage time in a hopeless loss

#Thibs

How are we so helpless when down like 7 points but so vulnerable when up double digits? Against some of the worst NBA lineups ever to see the court? I predict complete doom and these losers still disappoint me, I thought we’d at least compete ffs

This is miserable and somehow Orlando, with all their injuries, has played 9 guys and only two over 30 minutes. We’ve played 8 with 4 over 30 minutes and I’ll bet Hart and Bridges play 40.

Make it make sense.

Huk would never have turned it over like that.

Most dispiriting loss of the season.

I can’t believe I’m paying Fubo $79/mo for this stinking pile of dog shit.

Brunson sucked ass tonight

Brunson has a real problem when his shot isn’t falling he stops setting up his teammates and shoots even more.

My bad. 14.3%.

It feels like Black Monday, watching this go down…

In terms of eye test data points, if you want to know what actual really good perimeter and 3-point defense looks like — you just saw it.

Why is Brunson driving into traffic down 12 with a minute left?

It’s like OKC broke the spell. Or broke their spirits or something. They realized how far from a chip they really are, and the air came out of the balloon.

From bad to worse, a pathetic performance, invisible defense and unwatchable offense, lead by a very subpar Brunson.

Thibs put on the bus and driven to school by Mosley, if we lose with the Raptors I’ll change my patient and very zen stance to “fire Thibs asap”.

Well that is one way to get Brunson off the floor with 1:05 left down 10

Pathetic embarrassing loss. No energy, no adjustments and the poor 3 point shooting and defense continues. OG looks like dead weight and Brunson looks a step slow too.

Just an embarrassing loss. If your starters are playing like garbage, why not try something else? A very bad loss all around

“Play defense with your feet, not your face!” Ha ha. At least we still have Clyde.

We have a lot of home games this month but if KAT and Deuce don’t come back soon we could lose most of them.

Why is Brunson driving into traffic down 12 with a minute left?

Because this way he can stuff his stats with free throws and useless two-pointers…

We are gonna get DESTROYED by OKC on Friday if we don’t get our shit together.

Pretty sure Mosely said to Rick Brunson in that embrace something like’ “I cant believe we won that. You guys really sucked balls tonight.”

wow, that championship or bust vibe has disappeared pretty quickly…

teams lose, but more and more ready to move on from thibs…

we have a good roster, may not need a wins grinder like thibs for coach…

The excuse of no Deuce and Mitch can only go so far. This was a very winnable game against an injury-riddled team and we were just out-hustled and out-coached.

3 game losing streak isn’t crisis mode yet but those were bad losses to Chicago and Orlando. The lack of adjustments reared its ugly head again. Need something else other than “wait for people to get healthy.” Team should be better than that

Turns out our window was the NBA Cup.

Going all in for total mediocrity that can’t even compete with young depleted teams at the bottom of their win curve is pretty much the true meaning of Knicksiness.

Oh, and it’s starting to look like E was right about OG, whose D has fallen off a cliff this year just like Bridges last year. Paying retail for guys who can’t even defend as well as scrrappy kids on rookie contracts is rhe new market inefficiency.

one big positive of the night, the first book of the silo series was in my mailbox…

getting ready to start reading Wool now…

it was funny, had read some stuff about the similarities between the Fallout game series and the Silo book series…

the author of the Silo series, Hugh Howey had in fact played the first 2 Fallout games prior to writing the book series…

interesting enough went to check some more and landed in Reddit land, and lo and behold reading through a thread and saw a post from Hugh Howey themselves saying how creative folks often get similar ideas…

that was cool…

need to flush the last few games from my memory…

I’m usually one of the more positive posters on this blog, but I can’t think of a single positive thing to say after that loss

The Magic were on a back to back and missing their 4 top scorers. We were home and I don’t care about no KAT, you can’t lose by 9 to that iteration of the Orlando Magic

Just an awful performance all around, the Knicks should be embarrassed

Oddly enough, Geo, I watched Silo instead of the first half. Been a disappointing second season. So much filler, not a lot of movement.

Isn’t a game like tonight one you call up Dadiet and let him get some burn? Why are you forcing Precious and Sims lineups? Thibs is a dinosaur

This team is good when it’s at full strength. When one guy is hurt it’s not very good. When two guys are hurt it’s bad. Once more than two start getting hurt it’s going to start getting apocalyptic.

The Magic gave 98 minutes to their bench, we gave ours 55. Didn’t have any juice to make a run in the fourth.

Same shit, different toilet.

starters still out here playing 40 plus minutes? Game is over and they’re still on the court late in the 4th.

I was not happy about this game. What a bad loss. Holy shit!

one of the neat things about sci fi hubie is that you can build upon your own imagination on its platform…

you are correct though…still an interesting dive in to one possible future outcome…

the current state of silo production going on is actually some pretty interesting stuff…

money well spent???

Spot on. Post of the night.

Also maybe give Kolek a chance to play ahead of Cam Payne .

Playing results here. Payne has bee more than adequate to good this season, had a shitty night.

Kolek shouldn’t have been replacing Payne… he should have been getting at least some of Deuce’s minutes when it became apparent they were going to trap Brunson and Bridges all over the floor because they weren’t afraid of the 3 point prowess of Precious, Sims and Hart….

Well, the Bulls did beat the Spurs tonight, at least, proving they’re no pushover these days.

Everyone complains about Sims, but the box score suggests why he starts over Achiuwa. He got ten rebounds in 29 minutes versus Achiuwa’s 2 rebounds in 22 minutes. And Sims was presumably playing against Orlando’s starters. His plus minus is much better too.

Now you’re just trolling.

Nah, I’m deferring to Breen who called him “Carter” all night long…
