2014-15 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Warriors

You really have to wonder if Steve Kerr will be able to keep a straight face tonight when he sees what he could have been the coach of if he had honored his verbal agreement with Phil Jackson (I don’t think enough is made, by the way, about him breaking a verbal agreement to coach the Knicks. That’s not cool).

We will get a chance to see a guy tonight that the Knicks might actually have an outside chance of getting this offseason, Draymond Green.

Maybe the Knicks will surprise us and win this one!

Let’s go Knicks!

  1. Philly up on Charlotte. We can pick up a full game on them tonight, let’s go Warriors! Let’s go Hornets!

  2. Someone get Gallo a max contract ASAP. I don’t know whether to be disappointed in the Warriors or impressed with the Knicks for this not being a 50 point blowout, let alone being as close as it is.

  3. Damnit, they’ve gone and sucked me in. It’s so much easier to root for them to lose when they’re down 30. Now I want to see the win…bleh. I hate this season; it’s too conflicting, emotionally.

  4. That Steph 3 to make it an 11 point game was incredible. JAH was guarding but still an off the dribble 3 that looked so easy. And as I am typing he hits another 3.

  5. Well, that went about as well as we could hope. A somewhat competitive finish, but still a loss. Meanwhile, Philly picks up a win and drops another game back in the race to #1! Or 30, depending on your perspective I suppose.

  6. We lose one more for Okafor. A fun 4th quarter but a predicable result. Galloway and Larkin were fun to watch.

  7. I think the plan for The Knicks is simple.

    Draft towns.
    Sign Monroe
    Sign Mathews or dragic

These three moves are what they should do

  8. Wow, Golden State goes from NY to Philadelphia, then heads up to Minnesota. So there’ll be no ground gained by any of those teams in the race to the bottom this week! (And Golden State gets to sleepwalk across the country and into the allstar break 3 wins richer).

  9. Towns had a hell of a game tonight. I’m almost hoping for the #2 pick so that the Knicks don’t have to decide between the two. It’s such a tough choice!!! Almost, though, as I still want them to get #1 so that they can get Okafor, but man, they need a top two pick soooo badly!!!

  10. er- I don’t get the anti-Monroe sentiment either. He’s not a great rim protecter but that’s one reason to draft Towns. He’s a very good rebounder and solid scorer. He also never gets hurt. I also don’t understand why anyone would be against Matthews, a real good defender who shoots 40 percent on 8 3s a game. He also has played almost every game in his career. Both are also young.

I don’t know how you define “young,” but Matthews will be 29 by the start of next season.

  12. Young = durable, not many NBA miles on his body, clearly in his prime and very unlikely to decline over a 4 year contract. That’s Matthews. Monroe is 24 and has played all but 3 games in a 5 year career.

  13. The argument against Monroe at this point is that while he’ll probably be acceptable value at his max, he is very redundant with Okafor and while he fits well with Towns, having those two would push Melo to SF, where he’s been significantly worse.

  14. Gallo fg% to Melo ish. Is he missing easy ones?
Can only see missed layup on gamecast

Gallo has taken a month or so to get into stroke over his last couple of reasonable healthy seasons in Denver. Now, at least half time I’ve seen him it’s clear he’s laboring on both ends of the floor, is reluctant to bang bodies for rebounds or to draw fouls, and is missing open looks.

Just before he went down with the knee, he was playing borderline all star caliber ball. I was watching and evaluating the stats every night. He was sweeeeet! I question if he’ll ever get back to that level let alone reach the peak he was heading towards before the ACL.

  15. I understand the Okafor/Monroe argument because they are somewhat redundant, but not the Towns/Monroe argument because they complement each other. If Towns and Monroe each play 33 minutes at the 4/5, that still leaves 30 minutes of 4/5 time to fill. It would be pretty easy to figure out how to play Melo at least 20-24/game at the 4.

  16. I think I would like to Knicks to overpay Danny Green than go after Matthews. I realize that the Spurs can pay him but would they pay him $10-12M. I guess it’s possible they would but if they don’t I would rather the knicks go after the slightly younger player.

I say bring in every FA with ties to NY.

  17. I really like the Towns-Monroe-Melo frontcourt too. Next, I´d go for one out of Brandon Knight/Reggie Jackson. Complete the starting five with Calderon, and fill the roster with whatever cap space we got left and whatever players we can save from this season: Galloway, Acy, Aldrich, THJr, Early, Thanassis, Amundson, Lance Thomas, Larkin…
