Nice article about Landry Shamet’s camera exploits at the US Open finals. Notably mentions he would like to return to the Knicks.
Yeah at this point I’d prefer if they just resign Shamet instead of continuing to wait for maybe getting Simmons. Unless they’re looking to move one of the youngsters so they can get Shamet and Simmons.
But Shamet gives you a very useful skill. Shooting off the bench. And also shooting off catch and shoot. And his defense is fine for a bench player. You can do a lot worse than Shamet as the 10th guy in your rotation.
He wants to be here. He shoots well. He will accept his role of the bench. he doesn’t kill you on defense.
To me it’s a no brainer. And I’d almost prefer we drop the Simmons dream at this point and just focus on developing the young guys we have in the fold already.
I had to go to the US Open for work last week. It’s awful how much that experience has degraded. 20 years ago it was one of my favorite things to do. Now thanks to the influencers and idiots it might be the worst sporting experience in the world.
First they came for Surf Lodge, and I did not speak out because I didn’t go to Surf Lodge.
Yeah at this point I’d prefer if they just resign Shamet instead of continuing to wait for maybe getting Simmons.
You wait because there’s no reason to commit money to a player this early on. What if Landry Shamet gets hurt and can’t play for the first half of the season like, for example, Landry Shamet from last year?
Unless they’re looking to move one of the youngsters so they can get Shamet and Simmons.
I would not be upset if they figured out a way to bring back Shamet and Wright. I would have been OK if the only move they made was signing Yabu to replace Precious on the assumption that Yabu will be at least close to competent on defense and we’d get a huge upgrade on offense.
Yeah, there’s no reason to rush to sign Shamet, and several reasons why it’s smart to wait. Impulse control, Swifty.
It’s awful how much that experience has degraded.
Will, that’s a bummer, but since I haven’t been in 20 years, kind of OK, too…. It was great back in the day, so you’re making me regret missing it (kids, travel) much less.
A friend of mine loves tennis and goes every year and this year went twice. He bought tickets in advance to the qualifiers and to one day of the normal two weeks. Somehow he ended up with seats at the mixed doubles finals match because it was on the day he went to the qualifiers. That was very lucky. Somehow I suspect that won’t be possible next year.

good morning hubert could you explain this a little bit more what are the influencers and other assorted idiots doing now and how is it affecting the overall experience
It’s not a tennis crowd any more. It’s a tik tok crowd. It’s like going to one of those pop ups that only exist for people to take pictures (like the Museum of Ice Cream, or Artechouse).
yep that would totally kill the older vibe sorry it was unenjoyable for you
I used to go to the US open semis ever year, but they evetually broke the semis up into two sessions and the prices became so outrageous I just stopped going. I can afford whatever they charge, but I hate feeling like I’m being abused and that’s how I felt. The food prices are even worse.
So string Shamet along because he might get hurt again?
I mean, I guess we could wait until right before training camp but my POV on this is he was here last year, he knows the players and team and getting him back now means more time for chemistry to be developed in training camp, pre-season, etc.
Hubert, I think you will get more of a tennis crowd vibe if you go early in the first week and watch matches on the outer courts. The show courts will have stars playing someone unseeded which is unlikely to be an interesting match, but the outer courts will have good matchups. You won’t find a TikTok crowd there. Although you may find a bunch of fans from one country rooting for a compatriot, which is its own kind of vibe.
I saw a photo of the crowd when Medvedev flung his racket into the stands, and almost every fan already had his or her phone out
When you go to a concert these days, it’s a sea of phones being held up to record every single song and then immediately post on social media.
Smart phones- a blessing and a curse

This is true. The influencers are still in Montauk and Mykonos, and Honey Deuces haven’t begun trending yet because it’s terribly gauche to arrive on time.

(1) What chemistry is Shamet building in the off-season? Is he refusing to play Call of Duty with Mikal Bridges unless the Knicks sign him or something?
(2) Players get injured. This isn’t new. Shamet isn’t good enough to have wasted a roster spot on for a whole year if he gets injured next week.
(3) I don’t really care about Shamet. If someone better becomes available, that’s doing more good than an additional month of “chemistry building”.
(4) Shamet is free to sign with another team.
Btw if you haven’t been here in a while, Tik Tok has made New York so weird that there’s now a 2 hour line to get into the White Horse Tavern on weekends.

Dude, I was in NYC back in May for a conference. First time I was there since 2015.
The weirdest thing for me was the island in the middle of Times Square now basically being a social media tik tok content creator place. Very odd.
I would assume Shamet’s agent and the Knicks have talked so he has an idea of where he is in the pecking order. Leon would not let a player who was on the Knicks and wants to remain on the Knicks be under a false impression as to the likelihood. The article citing his wanting to stay tells me he knows he is fairly up that pecking order, but not top of it.
I haven’t been back in NYC since the summer of 2014 when I went up there to see Jeter play during his final season.
I got an email last week from a guy inviting me to the BNP Parisbas Open. It took me until the 3rd paragraph to know that he was talking about tennis.
Since I’m bored, I just wanted to take this downtime as an opportunity to marvel at how great music used to be. Over the past year or so, I kept noticing how many truly great albums were made in my birth year (1974), and frankly, it’s blowing my mind how so much exceptional music, in every possible style, came out in an average calendar year that wasn’t even known as a particularly good one (like 1971, for instance). I’m not sure what happened over those 50 years, but idk whether to be sad about what passes for music now or glad that I lived during a time of historic musicianship in this country. I’m sure I’m missing plenty of great ones, but below is just a sample list of albums that came out in 1974. Many aren’t even these artists’ “best” work according to many listmakers, but they’re all incredible nonetheless:
Fulfillingness’ First Finale – Stevie Wonder
Natty Dread – Bob Marley & The Wailers
Willie Nelson – Red Headed Stranger
Rags To Rufus – Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
Can’t Get Enough – Barry White
Court And Spark – Joni Mitchell
Dolly Parton – Jolene
Pretzel Logic – Steely Dan
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway – Genesis
On The Beach – Neil Young
461 Ocean Boulevard – Eric Clapton
Autobahn – Kraftwerk
Second Helping – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Late For The Sky – Jackson Browne
Al Green Explores Your Mind – Al Green
Bad Company – Bad Company
Heart Like A Wheel – Linda Ronstadt
Red – King Crimson
Grievous Angel – Gram Parsons
Country Life – Roxy Music
Radio City – Big Star
Good Old Boys – Randy Newman
I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight – Richard and Linda Thompson
Diamond Dogs – David Bowie
Inspiration Information – Shuggie Otis
Van Morrison
Before The Flood – Bob Dylan/The Band
Crime Of The Century – Supertramp
Open Our Eyes – Earth, Wind & Fire
The Heart Of Saturday Night – Tom Waits
Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) – Eno
Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal – Lou Reed
Gordon Lightfoot – Sundown
Secret Treaties – Blue Öyster Cult
Get Your Wings – Aerosmith
Donnie- you should go. It’s a nice tournament. I have a friend who goes every year and loves it.
The Open is crazy. It’s gotten more and more popular every year for the last ten.
I think a grounds pass first week is still a reasonable deal. You can hit Armstrong or the Grandstand and there are a lot of good outer court matches.
But yeah, Ashe isn’t as electric as it used to be.
Stein says we offered Simmons a one-year deal, which he turned down. And his agent has stopped representing him. Sure seems like he’s done.
I’m not sure what happened over those 50 years, but idk whether to be sad about what passes for music now or glad that I lived during a time of historic musicianship in this country.
I think the creative juices for what I would consider great music have run a bit dry because so much of what is possible has already been done.
I have almost no interest is what’s popular now.
If anything, the musicians are better now. At the very least there are a lot more great ones. It’s just that nothing they are producing excites me personally. I’d rather watch a Youtube of some 10 year old prodigy playing a classic rock or blues song than listen to what’s popular now.
I do find it amazing how many technically great guitar players there are these days. It’s WAY easier now to get good watching lessons and songs being played on video than it was slowing down your old 33 vinyl albums to 16 to try to figure out a song.

At least now we know we can move on and try to find the right player(s) to enhance the bench.
I wonder if Simmons is still holding out for a bigger deal or if he’s fickle enough to change his mind before the season starts or by the trade deadline.
I mostly just want to see him try out the Sabonis role on offense.
anyone who’s invited to Indian Wells and declines is a lizard person who should stay home and doze off to the first pages of his Vonneguts
I did Indian Wells twice when I was living out west and I agree; it’s the best tennis experience in the US.
I’m bummed that the Miami Open moved out of Key Biscayne now that my son lives there. I’ve been to the tennis center on Crandon and it would have been very fun to catch an event there.
