2025-08 Site Migration Complete

Hey all, the site migration seems to be complete. It looks like we lost a few days, but I’m hoping a server upgrade will offset that loss. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Mike. The cracker barrel day and fast food day disappearing is not a. great loss and perhaps some posters might welcome it! Suspect no one will need those posts other than the rare instance to justify or rebut a point about Vin Baker or Eddie Curry.

Hubert just has to re-recommend the fast food place on Long Island that he mentioned in the deleted thread from this morning, and I’ll be happy.

Thanks, Mike!

We haven’t heard the exact extent Bogdan Bogdanovic’s hamstring injury, but the Serbian team described it in their release as a “hamstring tear”. That’s not great. He’s headed to LA, where the Clippers will take care of treatment from here.

Bogdanovic missed time last year with hamstring issues.

FROM SHAMS:

Thanasis Antetokounmpo is signing a guaranteed one-year, $2.9 million deal to return to the Milwaukee Bucks, sources tell ESPN. Antetokounmpo played for Bucks from 2019-24. This also means after a summer of exploring options, Giannis is staying in Milwaukee to start the season.

The nation will mourn the loss of Knickerblogger’s Cracker Barrel threads as much, if not more, than the loss of the Cracker Barrel design itself.

Also, thanks Mike. Much better so far!

The Cracker Barrel thread didn’t last even as long as the new logo. Oh, what could have been…

Thanks Mike K for all the work you put into keeping this wonderful community alive. 😊

And thanks Raven for the heads up, i’ve just replied to Z-man.

the back in the day fave fast food talk has got me thinking – anyone else here grow up in suffolk county?

lots of city folk here, just wondering if there is any other rube here from out on the island…

Hey Geo, I grew up in Baldwin*, right next to Oceanside ( worked as a stockboy at a sporting goods store in Oceanside, on Long Beach Road, called Morsans. Down the road from Peter’s Clam Bar). Going to Nathan’s on a Sunday night was a multi- family tradition back then. They had a stage and used to have live entertainment. As my grandparents lived in Brighton Beach, BK used to go to the original Nathans in Coney Island, as well as Steeple Chase amusement park and on the Cyclone. I’d be scared shitless to go on it now.
Thanks to Mike for providing this site. It has provided invaluable knowledge about hoops and music, laughs, and some occasional melodramatic conflicts.
*Although we were definitely rubes, me and my parents made friends that have endured for over 60 years. I often wonder if Millenials or Gen Zers will have these type of bonds.

ha bo, remembering now what a pretty area that was, went to elementary school for a time in oceanside, shoot, a lot of the island is real pretty, especially along the coastlines…

one of my favorite memories is driving home from monmouth jersey to mom’s house…used to cruise along the southern state parkway, fun road for driving…

much better trip home than when I later had to traverse the cross bronx expressway – remember heading east looking south and thinking: that shit looks really scary over there…

Just watched some Jeremy Lin videos for old time’s sake. As Mike K said best, we’ll always have Linsanity.

I grew up in Port Jeff Station, so Suffolk born and raised. I still head back there frequently, as I have a lot of friends who stayed near home and my mother currently lives in Patchogue. A lot has changed, but a lot has stayed the same. It’s still Long Island–water, seafood, beaches, Italian food, Irish bars, all that. The docks are still lovely and the hills overlooking the Sound are still gorgeous. I miss it quiite a bit sometimes.

Hmmm. Not quite sure if the new site isn’t yet registering new threads each morning, or if it’s taking Labor Day off, which I guess would be fitting…

hey the somewhat bearable knicksiness of being (whoa, too early to think up a shortcut for your name 😊)…

port jeff was/is really nice (rememberthe little theaterthey had in t…just from natural geography always thought the north shore of the island was a prettier place than the south shore (especially for a drive), even though the beaches are mostly all on the south side of the island…

can’t remember the age, but grew up in patchogue at some point…what great little towns: patchogue, sayville, holbrook…went to sachem by lake ronkonkoma…

remember even back in the late 70’s there was like 1,500 kids per class in our high school, it was a nice place, but huge…

Hubert just has to re-recommend the fast food place on Long Island that he mentioned in the deleted thread from this morning, and I’ll be happy.

All American in Massapequa. A south shore Long Island mainstay. I was curious if Geo had ever been. It’s like a time capsule. Founded in 1965 and hasn’t changed a bit. Could’ve been Shake Shack if the owner gave a fuck, but he didn’t. Was featured in the movie Born on the Fourth of July.

With only Cleveland as a legit threat to beat us this year and Orlando as the only long shot, think we should narrow our approach to what is needed to get to the finals based on these two opponents.

We need the Mitch/KAT starting lineup to work During the season, it makes sense to play odds and focus on modern basketball…in the playoffs you play a single opponent. That’s why we needed heroics and luck just to get by Detroit. Leon must not abandon the Harvey Specter aproach.

The most prominent “play your opponent” quote from Harvey Specter in Suits is, “I don’t play the odds, I play the man”. This quote signifies that rather than relying on luck or statistics (playing the odds), Harvey believes in understanding the opponent’s personality, emotions, and weaknesses to gain an advantage and win.

Director, that’s the kind of short sighted thinking that led to Leon selling the farm for OG and Bridges to match up with Tatum and Brown. It got us past Boston but we still had two rounds to go.

Four rounds of the playoffs means you gotta be able to throw rock, paper, and scissor depending on the opponent. That’s why teams like OKC, Denver, Houston, Cleveland, and the Clippers are built to play different styles well.

We’re too top heavy for that.

I agree in principle, Hubert, but I don’t agree that we’re too top heavy to play multiple styles. We had a coach who only knew rock, always rock, so it may have looked that way, but we have the ingredients for 5-Out, for Stout D, for All The Rebounds, and for Pace and Space. This roster is actually quite flexible (assuming good health, which, who knows). Yes, our top players have limitations (KAT can’t play drop, Jalen can’t stay on front of anyone), but I truly believe a smart coach will play to our advantages and give us various options for different situations.

That’s how I’ll be judging him, anyway.

we have the ingredients for 5-Out, for Stout D, for All The Rebounds, and for Pace and Space.

We only have the ingredients to play flawed versions of all those things that expose a different achilles heel.

We play 5-out, good bye defense and rebounding.

We play All the Rebounds, welcome to packed lanes that can’t be penetrated.

I’m not quite sure what our “stout D” lineup is but I know it can’t contain Brunson and Towns, so say good bye to one of your best players.

We play 5-out, good bye defense and rebounding.

KAT
Yabu
OG
Mikal
Jalen

Not a lot of missed shots, so rebounding doesn’t matter. Jalen can play off ball, KAT facilitates from the high post, lots of 3s leading to exceptional offensive efficiency. KAT can play switching D, just not drop, and Yabu is big enough to cover for him here. OG is a big 3 (small 4), can play point of attack. Top 3 offense, top 10 defense.

We play All the Rebounds, welcome to packed lanes that can’t be penetrated.

That did not matter when all we had was Julius; it won’t matter with better talent here.

Mitch
KAT
Hart
Mikal
Jalen

Again, fantastic “Moneyball” offense (hello, E!) with Mitch and Hart cleaning up misses. That should be top 6 on O, top 10 on D.

I’m not quite sure what our “stout D” lineup is

Mitch
OG
Hart
Bridges
Deuce

Bridges needs to create a little more, maybe Hart facilitates as well. Ok offense. But very switchable wings, Deuce better at point of attack than Bridges, good rebounding. Top 10 offense, top 5 defense.

None of these is top 3 offense, top 3 defense. We have to mix and match. But there’s is plenty of flexibility, with shot making, rebounding, defense, and the ability to play fast without Mitch or KAT on the floor. We just need to be situational, not dogmatic, and we have a chance to beat anyone even on their best day.

KAT
Yabu
OG
Mikal
Jalen

You’re right, I defaulted to Deuce in the 5 out lineup. But it’s better with Yabu.

I think this is the most important lineup we have this year. If it clicks, we’ll be in the Finals.

Mitch
KAT
Hart
Mikal
Jalen

Mitch
OG
Hart
Bridges
Deuce

We may not be talking about the same thing. These are viable lineups for a regular season game but I was talking about lineups that can play in the ECF and Finals, and I don’t think these two can cut it.

FWIW I think the Cavs have a lot of the same structural flaws we do. A Garland-Mitchell backcourt opens you up to a lot; they depend on Jarrett Allen to cover much of it up, and he can, but deeper in the playoffs playing him poses issues of their own.

It’s really only the west teams that have the optionality we lack, and we only have to beat one of them.

Just a minor quibble, but not entirely sure that Yabu at 6’8″ can make up for KAT’s crappy lack of drop coverage. Or as old Ernie would say, isn’t it pretty to think so…

Oh he definitely cannot. You want that lineup to be able to switch effectively enough, and you want it to score like gangbusters.

At the end of the day if this team is going to succeed with KAT it needs to find its Aaron Gordon. Yabu ain’t it but he gives us a better 5-out look than we had.

I don’t think these two can cut it.

But we held our own at one point with freaking Delon Wright, Landry Shamet, OG, Hart, and KAT. Something like that, no? So it’s possible to make lineups work deep in the playoffs that don’t look pretty on the surface.

Don’t sleep on Indy. Or on this year’s Pacers: the Orlando Magic. The East is annoying to Knicks fans, man.

Truly not worried about the Pacers this year, sorry. Not only missing Tyrese but also Turner. Not good

Orlando is going be a problem, though.

FWIW I think the Cavs have a lot of the same structural flaws we do. A Garland-Mitchell backcourt opens you up to a lot; they depend on Jarrett Allen to cover much of it up, and he can, but deeper in the playoffs playing him poses issues of their own.

You came back around on your own. That’s what I’m talking about.

Other than Orlando and Cleveland, we can beat the other EC teams with any starting lineup combination and playing any style.

But to beat those two we need the Mitch/Kat starting backcourt with Hart coming of the bench. This lineup has the highest probabaility to beat evertyone in the EC, – so we must go with that one and make Mitch a major part of four our identity.

It’s the least common denominator and therefore a no brainer. Hope Brown doesn’t overthink it and just listens to Rosas and Leon.

the pistons should be a tough out in the playoffs (along with the cavs and magic)…

hate to say it, but I like the moves the hawks have made over the last year or so…

they have to be better this year, don’t they?

There are only a few teams in the East I actually would sleep on: definitely the Nets, Wiz, Hornets, Raptors, and Bulls. Probably the Celts, and the Heat and Pacers although I wouldn’t underestimate any team coached by Spo or Carlisle. Milwaukee’s roster looks tired and Doc is terrible but I wouldn’t underestimate any team with a healthy Giannis.

As to the rest:
-DET is good and might make some moves and re-acquire Beasley. I still see them as a first round exit but they have loads of internal development upside.
-ATL and PHI might be two of the biggest sleepers in the NBA if they can stay healthy (huge ifs!)
-Obviously Cleveland and Orlando are the biggest threats out there to us making the ECFs, but this Knicks team would be ill-advised to look past anyone.

But hey, I’m not even gonna think seriously about the playoffs and strategies/lineups/vulnerabilities until like December, maybe later.

I feel like I’m they only one who doesn’t take Atl seriously. A personal flaw, I guess. I mean, talk about one-way players with Trey and then KP being totally unreliable…I just don’t see them being anything other than an irritation. Could be wrong.

Philly is another story. So unlikely everyone will be healthy – but if they are, are they better than us? Maybe.

So unlikely everyone will be healthy – but if they are, are they better than us? Maybe.

Honestly, the same can be said of Jalen Suggs. If he can string together a 100 game health streak the Magic will win the east. But, like Embiid, increasingly unlikely…

I totally keep forgetting about philly when it comes to us competing in the east…

honestly though, IF embiid and george stay healthy for most the season (hit that 65 game mark), they should be sitting at around 45 wins or so…

they should have a good young backcourt filled with several guys who can play…

they’re definitely weaker this year at power forward (ha ha we snatched yabu from them)…

You came back around on your own.

I didn’t, though.

That’s what I’m talking about.

You said “you play one opponent in the playoffs” and we should load up to stop them. I said there’s actually four opponents so you shouldn’t do that because you need flexibility.

The Cavs are not the final boss of this season. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if they got knocked off by Donnie’s Orlando Magic.

Obviously Philly needs good health and play from both Embiid and PG13, and they need both of Adem Bona and Johnni Broome to step up as young bigs, plus Watford to play bigger than he is. They’re not a good bet, but their 100th-%tile outcome is formidable. I think Edgecombe is going to be a stud.

Orlando is young and probably mistake-prone. They probably need to season another year, but sure, they have lots of length and talent and added Bane for elite shooting. I could see them being a very tough playoff out, but I could also see them losing in the first round.

the pistons should be a tough out in the playoffs

Tough team for me to read. I really didn’t like their offseason but they have a ton of internal improvement potential with Thompson, Duren, Ivey, and Holland. I could be wrong but I think those guys are a year away.

I’m quite happy they didn’t maneuver to sign Julius Randle. I thought he would have been a great fit there.
