Well I’m strapping in for that new flick, Weapons. Buddy worked on it said it was good. We shall fucking see.
My wife and I saw Weapons over the weekend and it was awesome. Hope you had a good time.

Is Julia Garner the best current American actress?
not even close
Is Julia Garner the best current American actress?
I wouldn’t go that far; Streep, among many others, is still working, and Garner’s given some outright bad performances, like in that Anna Delvey miniseries. But I remember when she first appeared on The Americans as a teenage girl that Philip had to get close to — among the most squirm-inducing arcs I’ve ever watched — I immediately asked, “Who on earth is this?” She just popped off the screen.
1
Not sure but her performance in Ozark is one of the best TV performances of all time.

hardly the case

Is Julia Garner the best current American actress?
Garner has been killing it since The Ozark. She’s definitely in the conversation for the best current American actress. If by “current” you mean active and of this sorta new generation of actors and actresses. She’s high on the list. I was afraid that she might get typecast after her role in Ozark
She’s really good in Ozark, a show I otherwise think is derivative and boring junk. But I’m annoyed that they gave her three Emmys for it, which meant Rhea Seehorn from Better Call Saul never won even one(*) for an even better performance.
(*) Want to know how many Emmys that Better Call Saul won? That would be zero.

Is Julia Garner the best current American actress?
She’s good but of the younger generation of actresses I prefer Saoirse Ronan, Emma Stone, and Danielle Deadwyler.
Not sure but her performance in Ozark is one of the best TV performances of all time.
Maybe, but not as good as Rhea Seehorn in Better Call Saul. #justice4Rhea
Margot Robbie for me, but I have not seen much Garner…maybe just the 1st season of Ozarks.
Jodie Foster is still worthy of mention
margot robbie is kinda hot but is not in any way an extremely good actress better than sydney sweeney but that bar is pretty low
Weapons is pretty good! Absolutely a great version of that. Amy Madigan was my favorite thing about that movie by miles. Garner was a nice addition to the ensemble.

Agree 1000% with all of that Alan. I felt like I wasted hours of my life watching Ozark (based on friends raving about it) and Seehorn never getting an Emmy is an outright crime. I’m also one of those who think Better Call Saul surpassed Breaking Bad
It’s cool when someone shoots down a bunch of opinions but doesn’t have the guts to put their own out there.
Btw I thought Robbie was tremendous in I, Tonya.
3
that Anna Delvey miniseries
Yeah, that was bad.
As for Ozark, I agree it had issues, but I still liked it. The episode with Laura Linney driving her brother to his death is one of the strongest I’ve seen in recent years. Linney is pretty good herself.
Rhea Seehorn from Better Call Saul never won even one(*) for an even better performance.
(*) Want to know how many Emmys that Better Call Saul won? That would be zero.
We loved Seehorn there, and great series. I didn’t know it was totally ignored, that’s insane.
The royal we?
yeah i thought the same thing he probably means he and his wife or husband or girlfriend or boyfriend i love rhea and bcs too and yes probably more than breaking bad
Clarence did you like Eddington? We don’t have it here yet, but I watched Midsommar, and watching Beau is Afraid. Aster is shouting a bit too much for my taste, but still excellent films.
Also how did Joaquin became the goto guy for all these lonely losers? First Her, then Joker, now this. I guess he’s great at it.
The royal we?
My girlfriend. Strange to call her that after 12 years, and our average age, but here we are.
typecast now guessed correctly on the royal we average age here is 57.5
Darules, I thought there was some very good craft in Eddington. Aster is certainly a loud story teller and it plays well to the epic adventure of Beau. Im very interested in what’s next. As a victim of childhood sexual abuse myself (I claim no knowledge of Aster’s personal traumas) I think you have to be very careful about how much you let into your work in the expression arts. The freedom to scream can become very cumbersome. TNFH got it right… a weee bit too long for the payoff.
Phoenix is an interesting one.

I didn’t like Eddington. It’s a well-made film but it’s so obviously trying to say something and that “something” is boring and trite and mostly worthless.
Sorry to bring up basketball, but Edwards has his survey result. Most match the generic KB hive mind positions, with two that are a bit out there: firing of Thibs (most here seemed sad but that it was the right thing to do, there was less agreement in the larger populace), and Mikal (‘No, too many assets’ was a thing, but it came in third behind ‘not sure’ and ‘liked the trade.’).
And speaking of ignorant fan favorite, I’ll just throw Emily Blunt into the mix. I don’t think that she’s pushed herself all that hard, but she’s been quite decent in a host of different things, and I find her mesmerizing, which is a rare quality (not entirely about being beautiful).
midsommar sucked and became quite predictable halfway through
So sorry to hear that, Clarence, that’s awful. My abuse wasn’t sexual but still there was a strong command to stfu, or as my dad used to say “shout quietly”, which of course lead to shouting as loud as I could when I finally opened my mouth.
Doogie, good job, 58.5.
better than sydney sweeney but that bar is pretty low
Sweeney gets a bad rap as an actor because of all the other stuff swirling around her, but I’ve always thought she’s terrific. She did a movie a couple of years ago called Reality, that’s primarily her character being interrogated for the full running time, and she’s fantastic in that one. But I even think she’s very good on Euphoria, which is a very dumb show that demands ridiculous things of its actors. Definitely not a contender for best of her generation, but someone I generally think is underrated. (On the other hand, I couldn’t get through more than 15 minutes of Anyone But You on a plane.)
Is Julia Garner the best current American actress?
She’s a 10 BPM in my book.

I think my favorite part of Doogie’s posts of late is that I frequently don’t have the faintest idea what he’s saying, or even the topic he’s failing to address. He is. And Doogie did say something funny.which is excellent.

Two months till basketball. We are in the home stretch?
No, no
Clarence is Doogie
Knicks 2025 is Cormac McCarthy, gotta be
Doogie’s shtick gets even worse when not discussing basketball, which is puzzling because he must be good at something.
And until Hilary Swank retires she is very close to top of my list.
Welcome back, Doogie. I had no idea.
Clarence, you’ve been flirting with Knicks 2025 for months now. You’re telling me your Doogie-dar never went off even once? For shame…
Ari Aster has made one good movie in Hereditary. Everything else he does is ridiculously indulgent given his actual directorial talent level, which is middling. The amount of play he and Robert Eggers generate is just beyond me.
Best American actresses currently working is a pick’em between Laura Dern, Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart, and Emma Stone.
I’ve kinda accepted the lore that Knicks2025 = Doogie but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the bloody glove…
2
saw something cool last night: pilgrimage – medieval flick with the current punisher and spiderman in it…
I liked it…not sure if it’s true, but heard those 2 may get together again in the next spiderman movie…
Raven, I had just assumed that Knicks 2025 was a persona put out there to emulate Doogie. By my real nemesis. Barry Crisp.
TSBKB, any thoughts on Yorgos Lanthimos?
unfortunately i think hes quite odd in a way that seems dennis rodman fake and i dont have high hopes for bugonia bearable knicksiness may feel differently
We may have something in common, Doogie.
Just checked out the Knicks 2025-2026 schedule, not all that difficult to start out.
There’s obviously some tough ones scattered in there, but we really need to pile up some early wins before the schedule gets tougher.
first two games against cavs and celts are at home too
There are 4 tough games in there … not sure how we’ll pile up wins
There are 4 tough games in there … not sure how we’ll pile up wins
Well, if we win 2 of those we could start 8-2
I haven’t seen too many Lanthimos movies: just The Lobster and Dogtooth, both of which I liked. It’s been a while, but I recall finding both movies super tonally interesting without straining too hard at it, which I appreciated.
lanthimos movies start ok but then dont go anywhere i dont see four tough games in there i see only two cleveland and minny (both at home) not sure which of the others you guys are considering to be tough for us boston miami and grizz i guess are in the candidate set
Knicks April schedule is pretty easy too so if those final few games are important for seeding Knicks should be in good shape. Knicks also have an incredible 34 national TV games! The new national TV schedule is making NBA League Pass less relevant, hopefully it lowers the price of League Pass considering there are so many less games but I doubt it.
This should be a year where we pile up wins all along the way. If not, get that trade machine going.
Knicks also have an incredible 34 national TV games! The new national TV schedule is making NBA League Pass less relevant, hopefully it lowers the price of League Pass considering there are so many less games but I doubt it
It’s also making MSG less relevant. By selling so much National TV to so many outlets I suspect local broadcast rights are less profitable. This seems to have shown up in the salary cap. Despite big National TV revenue increases, BRI went up 7% instead of the expected 10%, almost certainly because local broadcasts overall aren’t producing the revenue they once did. I suspect this is one of Dolan’s big gripes with the league; the National TV deals have hurt MSG network as a business.
1
Well remember I live in Miami so I have to get the NBA and MLB packages to be able to watch all the Knicks and Yankees local broadcast games. At least I get free MLB.TV because I’m a T-Mobile customer.
Thinking we need to “pile up wins before the schedule gets tough” is mezzanine team thinking.
We’ll play who way when we play them. If we play well we’ll beat anyone. If we’re playing poorly we’ll lose to teams we aren’t supposed to lose to.
Asked Grok this:
Perform a thorough detailed analysis of the current NY Knicks 2025-26 basketball roster using traditional and advanced metrics, individual player skills and determine the desired skills/size that best suits them for them for the veteran minimum roster spot they still have open and then perform a current free agent market analysis to finaly make a determination and recomendation of top player you would recomend for their GM to sign. Use every scouting report you can find and team metrics to maek your determination.
Desired Skills/Size for Veteran Minimum Spot
Based on metrics and skills gaps:
Primary Need: Rebounding/Interior Depth. Team REB% is weak; a veteran big (6’10″+) who grabs boards (8+ RPG career), blocks shots (1+ BPG), and spaces the floor (35%+ 3PT) would fit. This bolsters small-ball lineups and covers Robinson’s absences.
Secondary Need: Wing Versatility. A 3&D forward (6’7″+) for minutes relief (Hart/Anunoby played heavy loads last season); defensive-minded with rebounding pop.
Overall Fit: Veteran leadership (5+ years exp.); low-usage (under 20% USG); durable (60+ games/season). Avoid high-maintenance scorers—focus on glue guys for Thibodeau/Brown’s system. Size preference: 6’9″+ for mismatch advantages.
Based on roster gaps (rebounding, big depth), team metrics (low REB%), and scouting, I recommend prioritizing bigs for the spot. These fits are substantiated by reports emphasizing energy, defense, and fit in Brown’s system.
Thomas Bryant (C, UFA): Best match—addresses rebounding (7.5 RPG career) and spacing (perimeter shooter). High-energy complements Towns; foul issues mitigated in limited minutes (15-20 MPG). Vet min feasible as backup role suits his profile.
Grok obviously a longtime KB lurker. Love his concern for covering Mitch absences….
ChatGPT seems to disagree. But…
Best Candidate (if available via veteran minimum):
Malcolm Brogdon is the top recommendation. He checks the boxes: shooting, defensive versatility, basketball IQ, and experience. He enhances Clippers when Towns or Brunson need rest, stabilizes second unit, and fits Mike Brown’s emphasis on two-way skill.
