“@Eurohoopsnet
Bayern Munich signs Rokas Jokubaitis through 2028”
Shame he didn’t pan out. We could use him this year in that last rookie spot.
Just to elaborate on my take that this is the last year I think Leon will give this iteration of the Knicks, my feeling is that this is the year that we can fully evaluate the potential of the Brunson-KAT pairing. Lots of folks here and elsewhere placed most of the blame on the ceiling they exhibited in the playoffs on Thibs. Whatever Brown is or isn’t, he’s very different than Thibs. So in my opinion, that’s where 100% of Leon’s focus should be, and that there is a real urgency to figure that out this year.
In that sense, I feel strongly that his year is the prime window for this group because it’s not going to get any easier. Teams like Miami, Atlanta, Orlando, and Detriot are not that far below us and have more maneuverability than we do. Indiana and Boston will likely come back strong in 2026-27. Cleveland is a move or two away from being clearly better than us and also has more flexibility.
And in the West, OKC isn’t going anywhere, and both Houston and San Antonio will be formidable going forward. Wemby could break out in 2026 and with a couple of moves, SAS totally disrupt the league.
Still keeping my fingers crossed on Vildoza, though…
Safe to say there will be alot of narratives about the Knicks after their 1st game of the season…
were supposed to watch each game and comment
Eh yes and no. Stars are always ready to ask out, and Leon is surely monitoring stars across the league to pair with Brunson in case things go south next year.
KAT can be a team’s 1st or 2nd option for multiple years and OG/Mikal are the 2-way wings every team wants. Giannis is obviously the main attraction, but we can always reset age-wise with guys like Zion, Ja, Chet, LaMelo, Lauri, etc. Or hell, we could even do an LBJ-KAT swap for a year just for kicks.
So yes, it would be disappointing if this core doesn’t make progress under Brown (I think it will), but we will surely have decent options if it doesn’t.
ess, just to clarify, I am saying that this year is the last “jury is out” year for THIS core. I agree that there are moves that can be made to modify (improve) it. My point is that if we come up short this year and it’s obvious that it’s because there is a ceiling to the KAT-Brunson pairing, major moves should be made rather than another year of the same.
I should also say that there are potential unexpected developments that can change the calculus going forward. What if Dadiet turns into a Melo-like player, except with less selfish tendencies and more defense? What if Huk makes Mitch totally expendible, or if Diawara does the same for OG?
Looking at it differently, in 2026, if you can sign extend Mitch now and then put together a package of Mitch, OG, our 2033 pick, some swaps for Giannis, i.e. figure out a way to acquire Giannis without giving up KAT or too much depth because of development from the three kids, that would change the whole calculus.
(PS I’m just procrastinating before tackling a spark plug replacement on my Subaru with 230K miles on the originals…)
thats an awful lot of miles for poor lil sparkplugs
The first test is the toughest competition in the conference.
Via NYPost:
Looks like Silver is predictably hyping the Knicks-Cavs narrative. We also will host the Mavs on MLK day.
Ah, being 0 and 1. Joy will be had in Mudsville.
Actually raised a question, though. Given a new coach, likely a new offensive system to some degree, and a new defensive system, so likely new roles and responsibilities for some of the players, how many games do we give Brown before we call for his head? I know the answer is one, because Knicks fans, but what SHOULD it be?
I am in full throated agreement that this is the prime year for this Knicks core. But I don’t think it’s the last year Leon will give them. If this team makes it to the finals and loses, I don’t expect him to break up the band bc other teams are coming. He’ll be slow to react. And when he runs it back the following year and the reality Z-Man described kicks in, that’s when I think (hope) he will make his move.
This reminds me a lot of ‘94 & ‘95. We had that brief window bc Jordan had retired and Shaq & Penny weren’t ready yet. We came close enough in ‘94 for it to be plausible to deny that was the end, and so we denied it. Riley knew it, though, and wanted to retool before it was too late. But we didn’t listen to him, and in ‘95 we lost major ground.
I see history repeating itself: a close loss in the NBA finals this year, followed by run-it-back next year, followed by “oops we shouldn’t have run it back.” And then hopefully a pivot before it’s too late.
The bellwether decision is going to be how we handle KAT’s extension. If we give him one, I think it’s a sure sign that we will not pivot and we will experience a long period of decline (with Brooklyn making out like bandits with our picks). If we don’t give him one, it will give me confidence that we plan to pivot and retool before it’s too late.
They are saying that Doncic lost a noticeable amount of weight and looks much faster. A little fat shaming and bruised ego may turn him into the MVP.
old news
Luca Doncic is ITBSOHL
I still don’t trust the Lakers to be good, but I concede that historically they have often found a good path forward and may have done so again.
being itbsohl for doncic is a low bar
I wonder how much of Luka’s weight loss is just moving from Dallas to LA. Texas restaurants have the largest steaks and burgers you can find anywhere. LA has wheatgrass and Ozempic.
i like to think that he actually worked at it
I’m shocked — shocked! — to learn that the new owners don’t want to leave the former owner in charge of the franchise for several more years.
“i like to think that he actually worked at it”
Got to think Luka, as a top athlete and competitor, chafed at the reports of not being in optimum shape. Got away with it in Dallas but not after the trade. Why Nico Harris didn’t threaten to fat-shame him with the beat writers is a mystery to me, since the trade accomplished that, but with Dallas in a worse position.
I’ve spent more time in Dallas than I’d like to have, and the food is no bigger or more “unhealthy” than in LA. If the reports of Luka liking his beer and hukah are true just cutting out the bread water alone will have enormous results. If he were to have upgraded from Scotty to LaForge in the engine room he could easily look way more healthy in very short order. I hope he has… reduced inflammation and nimbler feet will extend extend his career physically and mentally. Whether he’s training all that the universe has gifted him more effectively will play out on the court. He could be built like Ven Wallace on the outside and still not like the taste of brocolli or defense.
i agree with clarence one can eat badly in la or well in dallas if one chooses to ven wallace ate whatever he wanted to in detroit
Miami is pretty far below us. And personally I think the Atlanta hype is way overblown. Orlando should be tough, Detroit we will see. But people really forget how much talent we now have. We are better than most teams 1-7. Which is why the coaching change is so crucial.
Trading Giannis and getting back any decent value in incoming players is impossible with 2nd apron restricticion. Its almost impossible to even get the salaries to work for any two team trade.
I just spent 20 minutes messing around and can’t find anything that makes sense. Suns were lucky to move KD for ~75 cents on the dollar.
I don’t think Giannis is leaving mid season unless of course Doc makes his life impossible.
Can Turner move to PF and play the 4 like KAT?
If yes, they should be interested in a package of consisting of any of two or three of Mitch, OG, Mikal and Hart + draft pick swaps and scraps
geo howre the grannies doing today
My actual thought is that Luka is motivated by his newfound hatred of the Mavs.
Miami is washed. They were last year, even before moving Butler.
I love what Atlanta did, but I think KP needs to be a real superstar for them to be close to us.
Orlando worries me the most. I think they still need a true #1 option. Maybe Banchero or Wagner can make the leap or maybe their defense is good enough for it to not matter.
I’m not sure Detroit did anything to get better.
Detroit swapped out Dennis Schroeder and Malik Beasley for Caris Levert and Duncan Robinson. Lateral moves.
Miami is washed this coming year. After that? Who knows? Riley and Spo are wild cards, Riley hates to tank, and Miami seems to have a leg up on attracting FAs, so I would be surprised if they aren’t resurgent in 2026 or 2027.
“I’m not sure Detroit did anything to get better.”
Again, I’m talking about after this year. Detroit is in a great place cap-wise and pick-wise. Assuming that Cade, Ivey, Duren, Ausar, Holland still have room to grow, hey are a couple of big swings away from being contenders. They are on a similar track to what Houston did.
hey doogie, not to be too much of an old hag – but, i hope all is well for you…
noticed you may have, may have not, could’ve, maybe posted at some “off” hours…
rest is important sir, physically/mentally/emotionally…hope you are finding consistent routines to assist in rest…
ha, i meditate now – who’d have ever thunk that a possibility…that’s so funny…
managed to even fool myself in to thinking i’m not really doing nothing – i am recuperating/resting…yeah right…still mostly think of it as zombieing out…
any ways – one of my current go to for easing off any late night active thought process, turn down the temp, turn on the fan…
wouldnt a timestamp tell you whether or not any given poster posted during off hours
The violet hours of 2025.
and there you are
Waxing 2025, Knicks 2025.
and waning 2025
Doogie, realizing it is both a thankless and a pointless task, I’ll step in to say that I think what Geo was leaning toward saying, and certainly what I’ve been considering saying, is maybe don’t feel a need or commitment to posting every little thing that goes through your mind when you read someone’s post, whether it is the “Ew, gross” bit from last night or “and there you are” from just now. It’s not malevolent, but it is like a little fingernail scratch on the blackboard every time you do it, which is a LOT.
Trust me, if I posted every thought that crossed my mind when I read people’s posts, the threads would be 300+ posts long and say very little of interest. As well as annoy the fuck out of folks. So you know, I don’t.
This is a community. A weird one, but a real one nonetheless. Be considerate.
Z-man. Always respected you until the Subaru post. Wow. Really? Plugs every 50 dude!
I don’t see any of Atlanta, Detroit or Orlando jumping ahead of us, but I think you can argue they made bigger moves, have more internal upside or had more significant injuries last year. As a group, imo they closed the gap a little.
Miami is a different story. I don’t hate their roster, but I don’t think they are deep enough. Kel’el Ware has some potential to break out a little. I thought Vasquez was going to have a good year last year, but he disappointed. Maybe he can turn it around. I guess Powell is a nice addition. Riley needs to find some magic to add to this team. Losing Butler hurt. I was never a Wiggins fan.
vasquez on miami who the hell is even that thought you meant dwight powell but hes still on dallas guess you mean norman powell
Jaime Jaquez Jr. had a decent rookie year for Miami. I was expecting him to take a step forward, but he arguably went backward a bit.
Yes. Normal Powell.
If the Magic can have a run of good health like the Knicks enjoyed all last year, 57 wins is their floor and they will be extremely difficult to go 48mins x 7 against come late spring.
Off-season Doogie, ugh.
“Z-man. Always respected you until the Subaru post. Wow. Really? Plugs every 50 dude!”
LOL!!!
Took me a good part of the day in 90 degree heat, but got it done with no screw-ups, other than dropping a socket into the engine compartment and having to run out to buy a magnet which I attached to a string to fish it out. Few little dings on my hands and one on my head (banged it on the hood). Back is a bit stiff. But hey, at 67, still nice to do a relatively simple job on an old-ish car that would have cost a bunch to have done, I used to do that stuff all the time but now mostly leave it to mechanics. Same with painting in the house, just paid to have someone do it for the first time in my life and kinda glad I did!
PS I don’t think the “every 50” rule applies to the new stuff. and even the plugs I took out still looked okay, put in something called laser iridium plugs that come pre-gapped and last forever. I doubt that I’ll ever have to worry about it again!
Both Ron Holland and Ausar Thompson project to take leaps. Good chance Ausar Thompson takes The Leap (TM). That happens and they stay healthy, the Pistons are going to be a very good basketball team.
Are you implying that in-season Doogie is preferable?
Thank God the Twinkies are performing CPR on the Yankees again, tonight.
Holland was not good last year. Thompson can’t shoot. They’re really young and very likely to get better but it’s hard to know by how much. But Ivey and Cade and Duren are also likely to improve, and the Pistons don’t need all of them to hit next year. They could definitely be a problem next season.
Much more worried about the Pistons in 2026-27 and beyond than this year.
Danilo Gallinari’s team won the Puerto Rico league championship and he won Finals MVP. On to the Italian team.

Detroit was 14-16 with Ivey in the line up last season and 30-22 without.
that had much more to do with gelling over the course of the season than it did with losing ivey
