Knicks v. Pacers or….Indypendence Day!!

New York remains one game ahead of the T-Wolves and the Sixers in the race for worst record in the NBA.  After a very concerning 2 wins in a row, the Knicks returned to form with a wonderful showing against the Kings.  Star point guard Langston Galloway led the team with a -40 in that game.  I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a number that high…or low I guess.

One, two, three…6 weeks to go-new york go new york go!

  1. The D league must be very weak. Early went down for a couple of games and wreaked havoc. At the pro level he looks totally useless.

  2. Quiet here. It’s almost as if no one gives a crap about this incompetent organization any more!

  3. As bad as Aldrich has been. He still deserves to play over Bargs/Smith.

  4. Did anyone else catch Clyde’s completely politically incorrect comment on Lauren Holtcamp the rookie female ref?! Breen said if you ask around the league she is highly thought of and Clyde responded “She certainly looks good.” LOL.

  5. God, I really hate the end of quarter “play” you see most teams run. 95% of the time (no actual research done to verify this number I plucked out of thin air) it’s an iso where the player bounces left, bounces right, then takes a step back contested jumper.

I’m already awaiting the inevitable nuclear fallout.

  7. This thread is a nice change of pace. Can’t watch the game, but I like having a peak at what the punters are saying. Helps me determine whether I watch when I get home ha ha.

  8. Is Shved a keeper? Who’d you rather keep – Larkin or Shved?

Shed, mostly because he is a better shooter, and from what I saw when he was in Minny, he is a decent play maker. I would say he is kind of Dragic Lite if anything. I think for Larkin to be effective, he probably needs to be in a faster paced offensive system.

  9. Well, this got ugly fast. Just turned it on but too late it seems.

    At least Bargnani is dominating….

  10. Shved has some skills, but he has to improve his scoring efficiency to be worth what he’s making.

  11. This one is a bit weird even for me but work with me here.

I think you could draw a parallel between the Phil Jackson and Adam Sandler’s career.

Sandler–like the Jackson–peaked in the 90s. While clearly not the best comedian of the era (that was probably Jim Carrey), Sandler was good enough and funny enough to have us for the next decade and a half always wondering if he could do it again. We were disappointed time and time again.

Of late, it hardly seems like Sandler is even trying. His movies keep getting more expensive while also less profitable. Sometimes it seems like he is only in this to get himself paid and see to it that some of his loyal buddies make some decent money as well for doing little more than showing up (see Knicks coaching staff).

Sandler seems stuck in the past. Still prancing out the old formula of silly voices, hitting people, and saying “Ooooooo!!” while failing to realize that this does not work anymore (see Triangle).

I don’t know. Maybe I just want to go back to the 90s when the Knicks were good, Sandler was funny, and I still had a full head of hair.

  12. The only useful factoid gleaned from watching this is that Bargs is guarded by PFs (West and Scola) while the C guarded Admunson contrary to the theories of many on this board.

  13. Phil won 5 titles after the 90s. He last won a title in 2010. Adam Sandler made his last funny movie in 1996.

  14. Phil won 5 titles after the 90s. He last won a title in 2010. Adam Sandler made his last funny movie in 1996.

Yes, but he was at his very best in the 90s. 6 titles in 8 years with two three peats. The Lakers run, while very good, still wasn’t as good as the Bulls run. I’m talking peaks.

  15. Clyde is relentlessly criticizing Hardway now. Sloppy passes, poor shot selection, failing to head fake, stupid fouls. Kid can’t do anything right. Clyde in rare form tonight. Must be getting to him having to come out and comment on this clown show night after night (don’t _we_ all know!). Good to see Galloway bounce back well though.

  16. A buddy of mine was married to someone who worked in production with Adam Sandler. She said he gave up smoking pot with disastrous results on his creative instincts. Take that for what it’s worth, stoner scuttlebutt….

  17. Schvwd needs to hit the weight bench – or maybe the ‘roids. He has the muscle definition of Olive Oil and he’s getting manhandled out there. Oh and Stat’s jersey looks like a dress on him.

  18. Yeah, Schvedy and Cole need to off season in Miami. And by that I mean take shit tons of steroids.

  19. Yes, but he was at his very best in the 90s. 6 titles in 8 years with two three peats. The Lakers run, while very good, still wasn’t as good as the Bulls run. I’m talking peaks.

Man, tough crowd. 5 titles in 10 years, with 1 3-peat and another back-to-back and that’s not good enough. For anyone else, that would be their peak.

Also, Sandler was never funny. At least, I never thought so. But comedy is a very subjective business, so my opinion means exactly zilch.

  20. The worst part about tonight isn’t that we’re losing (because, duh), but that Denver picked tonight to show up and play. I was hoping we could gain a game on Minny tonight.

  21. I really enjoyed Happy Gilmore.

Anyway the point is TODAY Sandler is not funny and Jackson aint good at his job but they each are still getting paid big on what they did years ago.

  22. The winning percentage in the 90s was higher too. 5 teams in the 90s won more than 60 games. Only 2 after 2000.

  23. Wolves getting whooped at home vs Denver. I figured they’d win enough games the rest of the way that the 76ers are the only team competing with the Knicks for worst record. I dont mind finishing with the 2nd worst record but dont want to risk it and finish with 3rd worst.

  24. Westbrook with his 4th straight triple-double, most since Jordan had 7 straight in 1989.

  25. Anyone see the team plus/minus stats from the OKC-PHI box score? Really fascinating.

  26. Nerlens playing a lot better of late. Tonight is not his best game, but he looked like a bust at the start of the season and he looks pretty frisky these days. Just don’t tell that idiot from Grantland.

  27. Anyone see the team plus/minus stats from the OKC-PHI box score? Really fascinating.

Russ has 46 (efficient) points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists, and is getting killed in plus/minus by Nick Collison. Raw plus minus is useless .

  28. Denver making a statement about the Shaw fire?

They all must have haaaaated playing for Shaw. Shaw looked almost as lost there as Scott is in L.A.

  29. Sandler has never been funny, but when I first snuck a watch at Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, I thought it was the comedic Mt. Everest. Mind you I was about 9. The films are categorically unfunny.

  30. Jowles, are you telling me you’re younger than 30? You sounded so cantankerous I thought you were around 45. I can’t seem to guess a shit about posters’ ages.

My two cents on that awful Grantland piece: that site is full of great writers (Lowe, Concepcion aka netw3rk, the wonderful Jonathan Abrams and the incredibly gifted Brian Phillips), but Sharp seems to be primed to take the stupid homerism hot takes writer scepter from Mr. Simmons himself. I can’t bring myself to agree to almost anything written by Sharp.

  31. Yeah, Grantland has tons of great basketball writers. netw3rk is the man and Lowe is astonishingly good.

  32. 30 with heart of 55 year old

    Lol, + 1.

I don’t know, I always imagined Jowles as a mid 40s Republican with a Democratic mind, stroking his (perfectly polished) hunting rifle while reading Nate Silver pieces with sincere curiosity.

  33. Yeah the basketball slate on Grantland is pretty solid with the exception of Simmons and Sharp but they bring it down badly.

Telling someone to drink bleach and die should’ve been what tipped you off to Cock Jowles’ age–it’s textbook internet forum flame, a pastime dominated by our particular cohort.

SOURCE: I’ve seen plenty of 20 somethings say that on the internet(including myself), never a 30+ year old. Q.E.D.

Sandler isn’t funny he just plays a quasi-autistic manchild every film and as such was the prototype for Judd Apatow’s whole career which makes him basically unforgivable. Anyone helped enrich the soil in which artistic weeds Seth Rogen and James Franco were to grow committed an abomination.

Freaks and Geeks was great though, so there’s that, I guess.
