    1. as always al, great work…that “shitass” comment got that person a little defensive, that was funny…it was like they already knew that comment was coming…

Oh, that whole shitass exchange was said in fun. I think he was amused I was asking so many questions on the subject.

i’ve only made it through half of the first season of Res Dogs…i’ll probably go ahead and finish the whole season this weekend…big fan of “Big” so far, really like/liked the Akecheta character in Westworld (season 2 episode 8 is absolutely phenomenal – nine years in that meatgrinder, without dying and being updated) …the main characters in res dogs may be a little too young though to keep me interested, we’ll see…

If the Rez Dogs kids are too young to be compelling to you, Geo, you might want to try Dark Winds, which also stars Zahn McClarnon (Big/Akecheta/etc) and takes place on a reservation, but is a murder mystery set in the 70s. On AMC. Wrote about it here: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-reviews/dark-winds-review-amc-1362264/

    2. Meanwhile, on-topic, not much is happening, Knicks-wise. Pretty much every story the algorithm picked up is tied to that days-old report about a potential Jazz/Knicks/Lakers three-teamer, and that report is about a conversation that happened weeks ago. We’ve still got two months to training camp. Just hold the line, Brock…

    3. I enjoyed Dark Winds. Good story. The last few episodes really picked up. Also I like Zahn McClarnon who like you said is also in Rez Dogs and also Longmire which I liked!

    4. I was thinking about the Knicks depth at PF and C. Especially if some of it is included in upcoming trades. Maybe Hartenstein can play with Mitchell’s sometimes. Does he have the quickness to play PF sometimes? Maybe Sims too, although he doesn’t have much shooting range. Thinking of how some other teams are going big at both positions like the Cavs and Wolves. Maybe Thibs can be creative and do that for a few minutes. But I also don’t want Obi to lose minutes.

    5. Oh, the approving gifs I would send your way for that comment, Ess-Dog, if I only had the power…

    6. Some time last week I mentioned that Grimes shouldn’t hold up a Mitchell deal because I think keeping Obi and Quickley together > holding on to Grimes. And I really really like Grimes and understand his potential importance to this team. I still feel like we should focus on keeping Obi and Quickley, but I’m no longer inflexible on that.

Utah really really wants Grimes, so now I feel like it’s an either or trade. Either we keep Grimes and give them both Quickley and Obi, or vice versa. It kinda makes the trade a bit more complicated, and makes you wonder if Mitchell is actually worth it IMO. As in, does he move the needle that much? Maybe he does if Randle isn’t on the team- I dunno. But Brunson, Mitchell, and RJ fit together way better without Randle.

What makes the trade complicated to me, is who we give up to match salary. Say we give in and give up Grimes. Then, you’ll want to throw Rose in the trade because you don’t want to trade both of Fournier and Grimes in this deal because then you’d have an extremely small team on the perimeter and no real firepower on the 2nd unit. But..the FO reportedly doesn’t want to trade Rose. But if they do, we can afford to give Quickley more on ball reps- which I think is a good idea.

So again, is a trade for Mitchell actually worth it? Especially Utah won’t be satisfied with taking back a deal(that helps them tank btw) including a Randle or a Fournier? Randle and Fournier both have long term deals and are good tank commanders in that situation, so I don’t see why Utah would take issue with one of those 2 if we refuse to trade Rose. I don’t think it’s actually Grimes that’s holding the deal up- it’s the thought that Utah wants several young players and several good picks. Right now, Leon is right to walk away temporarily.

Minnesota fucked it up for everybody

    7. There are no trades that make sense in large part because Mitchell doesn’t fit with Brunson and RJ. We can always move Randle later if a deal for him doesn’t present itself. There’s no rush with that. The keys are not creating a core that won’t work long term and not giving away players with upside that do fit well plus a pile of picks because we are chasing a star that doesn’t defend or fit.

Just keep rooting for no deal before the season other than perhaps for Randle. That way we get to see this young team as is before we do something stupid.

    8. This thought just hit me..
Or..maybe it helps us include Randle in the deal if Utah can find takers for Conley and Clarkson first.

Truthfully, I’m not bullish on a deal for Mitchell- it just feels imminent. And I can’t ignore that. I’d actually rather use a pick to move Randle in some mystery 3 team deal that would net us Isaac lol. But that is near impossible- so we’re likely stuck seeing if Grimes starts and if Thibs can work the Obi/Randle rotation out better

    9. Power resides where men believe it resides, Lord Alan.

      that was great ess-dog :)

excited to see the new predator movie: Prey on hulu…

i found that comment by the Rez Dogs writer/creator interesting about how native-american humor has never really been accurately portrayed on film…

native-american culture is one that’s spread all across america and most certainly regionalized…it’s good though to see some get the opportunity to use their voice…tell their story…

most of what i know of native-americans has been told by non native-americans…

    10. I’m 3 episodes into Dark Winds. I have mixed feelings about it, but will watch the last three this weekend.

Really looking forward to Monday night’s Better Call Saul finale, though I feel that the last couple of episodes have been kind of treading water. Maybe the calm before the storm? We’ll see. I hope Saul’s tantrum in the phone booth does not mean what I think it might mean…

    11. clash fan, enjoy the journey…

number one thing i’ve learned from re-watching things – i’m no longer focused on story progression/resolution…you can slow down and appreciate some of the finer details…

having said all that, just finished the last two episodes and can’t wait to watch the final two together…sure why not – let kim come back to beautiful new mexico and run through (what very much deserves) to be a trilogy…and bring walter back at all costs, even if it’s host walter :)

i’ll say it for the millionth time, walter white should not have perished…let him have his redemption arc, and then let him fall again…

    12. Hartenstein only has 47 career 3s but took 16 over the last 8 games last year. He hit 56% over that stretch.

I’m not counting on him shooting 3s, but he’s shown some ability. He’s not Mitch launching 3s in an open gym.

    13. In all the conversations about team fit, backcourt size and defense with a potential Mitchell trade, I’ve been wondering if we’ve been focusing a bit much on the immediate future and the mindset that “Mitchell the 1A star can’t get your team out of the 2nd round”. I think there’s a bigger picture of potential with bringing Mitchell in: one that probably will make a good deal of us a lil nervous, but if look past that – and past our Knicks PTSD – can make a lot of sense. Here goes nuffin:

Bringing in DM at the right price raises the talent floor for the Knicks, not the ceiling. He’ll be 26 when the season starts, and he’s on a pretty good contract given his production. You’re securing a uber-offensively talented player who can consistently pressure and tilt defenses, and you can reasonably expect such production for, say, five seasons before he starts to decline. Five seasons is a good window of time for the team to retool and restructure itself, and here’s the potential best part: The Knicks know Mitchell can’t/shouldn’t be the main headliner of a true title contender, but he can be the 1B guy/Robin. So you have 5 years to reconstruct the team not around Mitchell, but to find that 1A guy to pair with him and then retool the team to fit.

Many of us have our reservations on whether Barrett will reach legit NBA stardom (I think he will, but I understand the statistical arguments that are not currently in his favor). We all think Quickley can be really good. We all have high hopes of Grimes being a solid starter at the 2. And we’re ecstatic to finally have a real PG in Brunson. Thing is, we hope that any of those guys can continue to develop to approach the level DM is now… thus DM is the proverbial “bird in the hand”. (con’t)…

    14. looking at isaiah stuff now…wow, we’re his 5th team already…

he can hit a free throw at least two thirds of the time…his per 36 are okay, his advanced stuff looks good…

holy cow, just saw a photo of his partner…no doubt they’ll be happy to come to new york…

it should be really hard for teams to score against us at the rim…

looked at his injury history…being seven foot tall and playing professional basketball seems to lead to injury…

    15. Hartenstein’s fiancee is probably better off professionally in LA, but New York would probably be in second place for an Insta-famous model type.

    16. Like I said, it’s about getting DM at the right price.
Seeing some comments and reports on which team has more pressure to make a deal – I know it’s near blasphemous to say that we are likely more in the driver’s seat. And yes, even at vastly decreased impact, the specter of Dolan is still enough to instill fear that he may hijack this whole negotiation. With all that said, if the reports are in fact accurate that Ainge/Jazz want to tank this season, then the pressure is more on them, regardless of how stiff & shrewd Ainge is. And we’re the only team reported that have the assets to negotiate.

Just because Ainge has a reported history of getting exactly his asking price or walking away, doesn’t mean it has to go down this way in this instance. And the Knicks don’t absolutely have to make this particular deal at this time or at any point pre or early season.

    17. Hartenstein’s fiancee is probably better off professionally in LA, but New York would probably be in second place for an Insta-famous model type.

Yeah, her little viral meme certainly seemed to suggest that she’d have been happier had they stayed put, but she’s making the most of it.

    18. Alan, you need to start pitching Ms. Hartenstein to your network to keep her in NYC.

Also, Sandman is on Netflix and I don’t think I’ll watch it. The comic is too good and there’s no way it translates.

    19. Per the responses from this board, I didn’t rush to watch episode 2 of The Old Man. Saw it last night. Definitely felt like a big step down from the first episode, but I’m still not turned off enough to tune it out just yet. But it’s giving me Porzingis vibes now, that it’s enticing start will end in injury, disappointment, and a cost-cutting trade for Reservation Dogs.
