    1. And Happy B’Day to my favorite Knick! :)

      @Refereads_:
#HappyBirthday to @NBA and @nyknicks icon Patrick Ewing, who turns 60 today.
#Ewing is an 11-time all-star, was named to 7 All-NBA teams, reached the NBA Finals twice and won Olympic gold medals as a member of the 1984 and 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball teams.

    2. Looks like Chuck D is super optimistic about this season. ;)

@MrChuckD: Mark my word @jalenbrunson1 is gonna be a S T A R in NEW YORK CITY and catch the league by unexpected surprise. He will make the TEAM better!! RJ etc .. @drose will be in the Dick Barnett legend role as backup retiring as a @nyknicks fave in 2-3, years @KnicksFanTv @CPTheFanchise

    3. I listened to the latest Hollinger and Duncan podcast which is on summer league. They don’t try and just cover the top prospects, instead they ask a lot of questions like who was the biggest disappointment or who was a surprise in some way. At the end, two Knicks got brief compliments and a little discussion. Grimes was the player “too good for summer league” and McBride was something like the player with “the most underrated summer league performance”.

    4. McBride was something like the player with “the most underrated summer league performance”

I don’t have any doubt that Deuce can dominate a lower league (college, G-League, summer league), the question is “can he do it in the big league?”. Last season he had little chances to prove he belongs, let’s see how it goes this season. If DRose can manage to be healthy, it’ll be hard for Deuce to see the court.

    5. “The proposed three-team trade scenario included Westbrook going to Utah and getting bought out. Utah would send Donovan Mitchell to the Knicks, a combination of two players, including Patrick Beverley and Jordan Clarkson, Bojan Bogdanovic or Malik Beasley to the Lakers, and the Jazz would receive significant draft pick compensation from the Knicks and Lakers. The Knicks also would’ve had to part with veteran salary filler(s), such as Derrick Rose to help make the salaries work.”

It seems like there should be a way to make everyone happy with this framework but what do I know…

    6. Oh man, this Phillipa and Mr Chow’s story is starting to snowball. Curry’s teammates “Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, Chauncey Billups, JR Smith, Jalen Rose, Matt Barnes and several others” are now involved. I hear that Patrick Ewing and John Starks could also have been using the cheat code, and also maybe Curry’s former coach Red Holzman. Thank you Morning News Bot for helping expose this story. You are an early nominee for the Woodward and Bernstein award for investigative journalism.

    7. Also worth noting that Randle is not mentioned in any of the iterations that Scotto mentions. It appears we are stuck with him this season, which would explain why we might be more willing to include Obi in a trade package. If the front office believes Randle has to play more to rehab his trade value, then there’s no path to more playing time for Obi, so Rose/Aller may think they should send him somewhere he can play as a means to bring in their “star.”

But also, we’ve heard so many conflicting things about which players Utah wants and which ones the Knicks want to hang onto for dear life. So who the hell knows?

    8. I brought this up in an earlier thread, but anyone watch Point Gods on Showtime? I really enjoyed it, especially listening to guys like Mark Jackson, Marbury, Kenny Anderson etc talk with admiration about each other’s games.

Still don’t understand how Pearl Washington could be such a dominant college player and be such a bust in the NBA.

    9. @d-mar
I watched it and enjoyed it very much. Went to many Big East Tournament games in the 80s including the ‘ Cuse/Hoyas game where Pearl Washington was dominant. Don’t recall why he imploded in the NBA.

Love the NYC culture that imbued all of their games. A lawyer friend of mine represented Kenny Anderson and I got to meet him several times. Was a really cool dude.

    10. Great atmosphere at Citi yesterday.

Eppler’s deadline moves were pretty interesting, he didn’t trade anything resembling a top prospect and as a result, the Mets will very likely have a top 10 farm system heading into next season, with two top prospects ready to graduate and some other top 100 prospects working their way through the lower minors. They have a good combination of “good now, good later” going and it’s been a long, long time since you could say that about the Mets. The Mets have been a boom-and-bust cycle team (mostly bust) for many years, and under Uncle Steve it looks much more like they’re going to be a Yankees/Dodgers perennial contender.

    11. pearl washington had limited range on his jumper…that can fly in college but not in the pros as a pg…it’s like dudes who hammer AAA pitching and go to the big leagues and get exposed for not being able to hit a curve ball…

    12. We get DM for Rose ~5 picks? – To good to be true for us Knicks fans…

    13. We get DM for Rose ~5 picks? – To good to be true for us Knicks fans…

We can’t get DM (30.3M) sending only DRose (14.5M). We need to send 24.25M minimum, so it’s either Randle (23.7M) and Reddish (5.9M), or Fournier (18M) and DRose (14.5M).

    14. I assumed the idea was to keep Quick, Grimes, RJ and Obi. If we make combinations with Deuce, you can trade Randle (23.7M) and Deuce (1.5M), or Fournier (18M), Reddish (5.9M) and Deuce (1.5M).

    15. Thanks Cyber. Basen on your $23.7 number, Leon’s best case is Fournier, Reddish ($23.9m) ~ 5 Picks. Its still a coup d’etat.

Sounds like Ainge prefers to maximize losses this year over good prospects. Full gut job. Tearing it down to the studs and rebuilding. How else can one explain shipping Bojan, Clarkson and Beasley?

    16. the rumored three-team deal isn’t actually a three-team deal if we’re not sending or receiving anything from the lakers…. it’s just two separate deals where the jazz unload players for picks to two different teams…. so someone heard these two rumors at some point during the offseason and combined it into one…

      it’s august… everyone’s vacationing and partying… if it’s a crazy rumor it’s most likely manufactured…

    17. or maybe another way to look at it is.. once donovan’s situation settles there’s probably multiple other trigger deals in the queue ready to go for the actual tear down and the laker deal is one of them…

which is why ainge doesn’t have that much leverage…. he wants to tear it down and mitchell is preventing him from moving on with the other deals….

    18. Happy Birthday to Patrick Ewing, watching him play was the biggest reason I became such a die hard Knicks fan. If I was born in 2000 instead of 1980 I don’t know if I’d feel the same way about the Knicks but thankfully I grew up watching Ewing and the 90’s Knicks.

    19. NYC Director, it’s 24.25M the money we have to send out, to receive DM. So you’d need to send Deuce along with Fournier and Reddish to make the money work.

    20. DJ, the Lakers are getting players from both teams, so it’s definitely a three-team deal.
      Example:
      Knicks get Donovan Mitchell;
      Lakers get Patrick Beverley, Jordan Clarkson and Evan Fournier;
      Jazz get Westbrook, Reddish, Deuce and a boatload of picks;

Edit: But yeah, nothing will happen anytime soon. Maybe in September, because it’s when Utah can trade the players they’ve got from Minny.

    21. Thanks Cyber, hear you on Deuce. It is what it is. Also, having LA get all those assets for Westbrook would mean that they’re sending out at least 2 picks to Utah, – so we’ll probably just have to send 4.

Having this starting five go to training camp locked in for 3 years would be amazing and we may need a new coach too.
      1) Brunson
      2) Mitchell
      3) RJ
      4) Randle
      5) Robinson

    22. This offseason has been very pleasing so far. No lottery pick but Jaylen Brunson comes onboard. I don’t know if anyone caught the replays on NBA TV but there was a Celtics and a Lakers game from last year. The four returning starters looked real good in stretches, as did IQ and Obi off the bench. Add a healthy Derrick Rose and better backup centers and we’re pretty good.

All the fear expressed here has me really believing in this roster, lol. Maybe, once I see every team with young talent that flies around us I’ll see the error of my ways. But it’s not just that I don’t want the FO to roll over and box us into mediocrity. It does not look like that’s going to happen. I really think Julius, RJ and Evan have another gear. I don’t think it hurts us at all to run it back this season and I think for once we may have a patient enough FO to maximize our assets.

    23. So, because The Sports Crush is trying to gain clicks by implicating Carmelo Anthony (and others) in the Eddy Curry cheat code intrigue, I would like to state, for the official record, that it was not Carmelo Anthony (or Amar’e, or Jalen Rose, etc…). Luckily, due to the nature of the Isiah Thomas regime, it’s not too hard to narrow down the actual suspects. There were only five players from the 2005 roster still on the team when Curry became a Knick in 2006:

      Trevor Ariza
      Jamal Crawford
      Mo Taylor
      Malik Rose
      Stephon Marbury

Of these guys, Ariza was 20 and Crawford and Rose weren’t married. I have no idea whether Mo Taylor was married or not. Steph was. So he’s the obvious culprit. Until we factor in what we already know about Steph: that he doesn’t take his mistresses to Mr Chow’s, he takes them to his pick-up truck parked outside of the strip club. So, Mo Taylor it is. (Sorry that Eddy outed you without thinking Mo. Classic Eddy, though).

    24. JK47: “Eppler’s deadline moves were pretty interesting, he didn’t trade anything resembling a top prospect and as a result, the Mets will very likely have a top 10 farm system heading into next season, with two top prospects ready to graduate and some other top 100 prospects working their way through the lower minors.”

Yeah, I’m glad they held fast, especially to Alvarez and Baty. The Ruf deal looks like an overpay, but not terrible to lose older A ball players. I really like the Vogelbach pickup….the dude looks like the love child of Babe Ruth and Chris Farley…

With all of Cohen’s money, just buy players as free agents for cash!
      :-)

    25. Mitchell would be great but I am legitimately interested in seeing what the current team can do (although obviously I would be more interested in seeing it without Randle)

    26. “Meanwhile Buck is gonna get Taijuan Walker killed out there”

Shocked he kept him in as long as he did. This is the 2nd game of a 5 game series including a doubleheader tomorrow. Throw in the towel and put our worst reliever or even a position player on the mound.

    27. Shocked he kept him in as long as he did. This is the 2nd game of a 5 game series including a doubleheader tomorrow. Throw in the towel and put our worst reliever or even a position player on the mound.

Especially since Taijuan was definitely pitching through discomfort, and was having back spasms or something. I like Buck but this is my biggest annoyance with him– when a starter doesn’t have it he just leaves the dude in to get mercilessly creamed.

    28. lowe’s off season report card on the Knicks (was on espn+ site today)

      New York Knicks: B+
As I discussed on the Lowe Post back at the start of free agency, you can quibble with the Knicks’ long-term direction but not the execution of their strategy. New York skillfully shed contracts signed last summer to create enough cap space to sign both guard Jalen Brunson — the best free agent to change teams this offseason — and promising center Isaiah Hartenstein.

In the process, the Knicks managed to turn the No. 11 pick of this year’s draft into three future first-rounders, enhancing their possible offer to the Jazz for Mitchell. It’s unclear how good New York will be with Brunson, or with a hypothetical Brunson-Mitchell backcourt, but the Knicks are certainly aiming higher than they have in the recent past.

    29. Thanks for the reference Pepper. I read the article and only two teams in the East did better than the Knicks in their grades (Philadelphia and Boston) and only one was tied with us (Toronto). That’s pretty good company to keep. The Knicks seem to be getting more respect these days. I’m really curious to see how this team does this season.

    30. Happy B-Day to Patrick Ewing. I can still hear his name getting announced before a home game. Number 33 from Georgetown Paaatrick Ewing.

I read a stat today that showed all the playoff series wins they had during the Ewing years compared to the past 21 years. Wow, amazing how good we were and amazing how bad we have been since.

Hopefully the team is trending upwards.

    31. I read this in one of the recent threads asking if anyone watched Reservation Dogs show. It is really good. Season 1 was good and the new season just started and both episodes were great. Covers a lot of areas-comedy and drama all while educating the viewer too. Worth watching!

    32. Awesome stuff as usual Alan! Rez Dogs! I liked the discussion at the end on the name calling and Sonic. Haha. Such great characters in the show.

    33. as always al, great work…that “shitass” comment got that person a little defensive, that was funny…it was like they already knew that comment was coming…

i’ve only made it through half of the first season of Res Dogs…i’ll probably go ahead and finish the whole season this weekend…big fan of “Big” so far, really like/liked the Akecheta character in Westworld (season 2 episode 8 is absolutely phenomenal – nine years in that meatgrinder, without dying and being updated) …the main characters in res dogs may be a little too young though to keep me interested, we’ll see…

i wanna say the last 2 “goofy” shows i got in to were The Tick and Lodge 49, a little more adult themed…both cancelled, yeah, i can really pick some winners…

speaking of Westworld, re-watched everything and i must say – much more enjoyable without trying to figure out all the timeline jumping and intentional mystery thrown in…

      When is now?

      yes, where is my mind?

knowing the “story” now makes it a lot easier to appreciate some of the finer details the show has to offer…really, hard to remember another show with that big a budget and excellent cast…

funny though, after re-watching it, anthony hopkins really does/did stand out…not sure what it is with that slooooow measured delivery of his, but he really can capture and keep your attention while he’s on screen…
