    1. I can’t believe any good team would take Randle.

I don’t know. Good teams usually don’t have great options and are capped out. Plus the number of sellers has gone down with so few teams being out of it. Other than Jerami Grant, who is really out there?

I maintain that would we should engage the Clippers. We can swap him for the useless Eric Bledsoe. And their defense is based on trapping, athletic wings instead of a rim protector, so they could even play him as a small ball center with Kawhi, PG, and Morris.

    2. Aren’t you confident that if the Clippers shopped Eric Bledsoe and Keon Johnson around the league they wouldn’t come up with a better deal?

    3. New Covid symptom: Choking
Look on the bright side: he doesn’t have to worry about meeting potus in the White House
Fauci replaced by Garoppolo as least favorite Italian
      And of course
      He never had a shot

    4. Rodgers clearly blew off the coach’s game plan and chose to do his own research instead.

      LOL

A nice follow up would be Kyrie going 1-15 in game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals

    6. It’s fun to imagine Randle trade scenarios, but does anyone really think a trade will happen before the deadline? I would place the odds at 100-1 against it.

And honestly, I think it would be bad business to trade him right now. Julius Randle is clearly better than he has been playing. We can quibble about how much better, but I think he’s still capable of being a borderline all-star level player without much change in his approach. First and foremost, he has to get out of the emotional rut that he’s in right now. I think that will happen eventually, but it might require patience on the part of fans and management. Second, he needs to be part of a better lineup. If you are going with Mitch as his primary 5, you need to have the right 3 guys out there with him. If RJ is one of those guys, now you have Mitch’s and RJ’s warts to deal with. And while some here bemoan what RJ and Mitch could be if they had a true 2-way PG to facilitate, I think it is even more true with Randle. Rose is a step in the right direction, but even he has some warts, and isn’t the kind of dynamic PG that might turn things around for Randle.

Ultimately, the focus at the deadline should be getting a dynamic 2-way PG like Jalen Brunson or the like. Kemba, Burks, and IQ are just not good matches for a Randle-centric 5 when two of the other 3 are RJ and Mitch. “Good” Fournier helps, but when teams throw waves of long, athletic wings at us, he can’t seem to get the ball in good spots because our PGs get trapped 30 feet from the basket and our whole offense bogs down.

So that’s the only direction I can see the FO going before the deadline, looking for a dynamic PG. Any Randle trades won’t happen until at least the offseason. Hopefully hel will have recouped some value by then.

    7. Kemba’s sitting today because of the back to back. Reddish is available, and now has a spot to play with Burks and IQ as the point guards.

    8. I think we’re too close to the play-in for management to punt on the season. We need to lose a lot of the next 10 games and also need the play-in teams to win them. At that point Leon Rose may declare the season over and move some of the vets.

Luckily, we have the team necessary to lose a lot over the next 10 games. The difficult part is whether Boston and the others can step up and win.

I’m still betting Fournier is the most likely to be moved to open up playing time for Cam Reddish.

If we don’t move Randle, pray that we sign Jalen Brunson or another PG in the offseason and that a PG helps him somehow.

    9. I agree that trading him is pure fantasy. But I think that’s bc Leon isn’t capable enough to see the big picture.

I disagree that it’s a bad idea to trade him now. Patience isn’t the best plan when you’re holding a bomb. When his extension kicks in and the shine from an all nba season wears off, he will be unmovable. And that’s even if he returns to career norms (not last year’s height).

It was a mistake to extend him, just get out of it while you can and go in a better direction.

    10. Hubert: I don’t know.

It’s so hard to know what other teams are really thinking. I guess it would only take one team out there to look at Randle as a “buy low” and/or “change of scenery” candidate worthy of trading for to get something done.

Or, do they view him as a toxic thin-skinned prima donna who popped a career year, got paid, and now expects the NBA refs to give him the star treatment every time he drives to the hoop?

The Knicks could’ve had KJ with the 19 pick, so maybe they don’t value him at all. Could be they’d be the ones to nix (wink wink nudge nudge) that potential trade to the Clips.

    11. Fournier seems more likely to positively regress than Randle. He has a longer track record of being the player we paid for. Randle had one year that was completely different than his career norms.

I’d rather move Randle while he still has some All-NBA shine, and give Fournier the rest of the year to find his game again.

    12. And honestly, I think it would be bad business to trade him right now. Julius Randle is clearly better than he has been playing. We can quibble about how much better, but I think he’s still capable of being a borderline all-star level player without much change in his approach.

Disagree on both fronts. First of all as Hubert has mentioned his contract only gets more difficult to move next season, but perhaps more importantly if he finishes the season with Carmelo Anthony usage at Frank Ntilikina efficiency we can probably close the door on being able to move him without significant sweetener attached. That’s a player who helps zero teams.

I think it would be bad business to not move him if we have the opportunity to do so without sweetener because of how quickly he could become an obvious albatross.

It’s easy to say we should just wait until he’s playing better, but that speaks to my lack of faith in your second point–the idea that he’ll naturally improve without making major adjustments. I just don’t see any reason to believe that. There are plenty of reasons most power forwards don’t take 38%+ of their shots from the midrange–it’s uncontroversially viewed as a bad way to generate efficient offense.

He was able to maintain league average-ish efficiency last year by hitting a boatload of 3s and shooting like Dirk from the midrange. Looking at his career, that season sticks out like a sore thumb. I highly doubt those numbers are ever coming back, and since his efficiency was only average with them (this is why the midrange has gone out of fashion–hitting them at well-above average rates yields only average efficiency) he really didn’t have a margin for error.

So I think he’ll either revert to being the play finisher he was in LA/NO or continue to struggle to replicate his all-NBA season, and I think the latter is a lot more likely.

    13. When a stock goes from $100 to $20, you have to do a hard assessment. Did it drop for real reasons or fake ones? Was it ever really worth $100 in the first place?

In Randle’s case, he dropped for real reasons and we were wrong to think he was worth $100 to begin with. The smart move is to sell while it’s at $20 bc it’s more likely to fall to $0 that bounce up to $60.

I am still open minded about Leon. If he figures that out, I’ll be impressed. But if he freezes and prays, I’ll know all I need.

    14. Fournier seems more likely to positively regress than Randle. He has a longer track record of being the player we paid for. Randle had one year that was completely different than his career norms.

There’s no reason to panic about Fournier. He takes a lot of threes and makes a lot of threes. There will be a team out there who wants him for that reason alone. He’s pretty easy to fit into a team concept.

      Randle on the other hand…

    15. What a weird season. Typical Knicks. Resting on our laurels after our brilliant playoff worthy 20-21. Truth is, the mess at PG has done us in, yet there’s still hope. We are within striking distance of .500 and that’s where you build on what you have, not fold.

I don’t care about the deal, as long as we win it. I could definitely see Dr. J going somewhere for prospects and picks, but I’d expect that to end up like Zach Randolph. Julius is a hustling player, who plays defense, rebounds, and passes. He can score at three levels. He’s a starting PF/ Small ball C / on any team in the league. He’s going to have ten more very good years in the NBA and we’ll miss him if he’s gone.

    16. “After getting torched for 49 points by Nikola Jokic on Wednesday, Los Angeles allowed 40 to Joel Embiid”

So a good chance Mitch goes off for 45 or so…

Waking up from the coma, anyone betting on the first serious crescendo of boos from our fan-tastic colleagues at the Garden? I’ll say the 5:30 mark of the opening quarter.

    17. Hubert:
Remember when JR Smith used to play these games like he was still drunk? good times.

“Like” he was still drunk? I’m pretty sure he was lol.

    18. Even if trading Randle and the other vets for future draft picks was the best course of action, which it might be, it will never happen as long as Rose wants to keep his job. Who thinks that if we suck this year and next Rose and Thibs won’t both be gone and then we’ll be starting over from scratch again? How many of these regimes last more than 3 years? I can’t think of any. If Rose wants to blow it up, he will need to get rid of Thibs first and then hope Dolan, the fan base, and the New York media will give him three or four more years to rebuild. I have seen this movie too many times already to believe there is any chance of that happening.
