    1. New thread, same condolences for JK. Sorry to hear about all that but he led a good life and that’s all you can do.

Re Randle, I feel about it kind of like how I feel about yelling at my son when he isn’t behaving well. It just isn’t going to work. He should know that but it’s understandable. Good he apologized. At the end of the day, the Garden crowd isn’t wrong about how horrifically he has played this year and on some level he should know that too.

This has been such a strange year already. Super high volatility. Guys we completely wrote off have bounced back in unexpected ways. With a little luck we still might win 38-40 games after a stretch where 28 felt more likely.

At least the entertainment value has been quite high. We have had a bunch of super exciting games and plenty of random spice to keep things interesting.

    2. repost from defunct thread:

sorry, jk. my parents both grew up in the bronx and went to bronx science, around the same time. when i’m desperate for pain distraction, i do puzzles. mostly doesn’t work.

ideally though, i’d somehow get caught up in an almost comically inane argument with absolutely nothing at stake. maybe something about whether conventional metrics accurately capture the bona fides of an olympic alternate belgian bobsledder. i guess the trick is to find someone kind enough to dedicate a serious chunk of their life to feigning deeply held but haphazardly communicated convictions about such esoterica. on second thought, i guess it’s asking too much for that brand of distraction-saint to exist in this shitty world

    3. That’s tough, JK. Sounds like we lost a real New Yorker in your dad.

Ran across this today. I guess GM Thibs is a real thing:

“Whatever direction New York chooses, Thibodeau will have his share of influence on personnel. He was a driving factor behind signing Evan Fournier, sources said, and has been credited with handpicking several Knicks draft selections during his tenure in New York.” – via Jake Fischer @ Bleacher Report

    4. Oh man, jk… condolences from this mostly lurker who visits kb daily just to enjoy the banter of the regulars, many for whom I’ve developed an odd affection in some weird 21st century sense. Kinda like following a long-running TV series, only I know the characters in it are all too real as are their lives outside this space and the pain that often comes with it.

My own dad is nearly eight years gone now. We were extremely close. The intense grief I felt at the time of his passing is pretty much gone now but not a day goes by in which I don’t feel his absence. Right now, for example, Being that this is a basketball forum and the subject of fathers has come up, I find my mind cast back to the Garden sometime in the late 1960s. My dad is taking me to my first ever NBA game. The opponent is the Hawks. I recall very few details other than Lou Hudson going off and my dad shaking his head sadly throughout at the Knicks utter powerlessness to contain him. The Knicks lost but it’s still a wonderful memory.

I guess that’s why i continue to waste my time with this woebegone franchise as well as the equally pathetic football Giants and baseball Mets. My mental health would no doubt be greatly improved were I to seek alternate pastimes but rooting for those teams helps keep my dad alive in me. Love of sports was, of course, one of the earliest bonding experiences with my father as is probably also true of many other males of the species. It’s the wonderful memories that keep me forever chained to these shitty teams.

Judging by your posts you seem like a good dude, jk, and the way you write of your dad, it sounds like he was, too. I’m sure you’ll call on your memories of his upbringing of you as you raise your own kid. And if sports is ever a part of that upbringing, I hope to God you are able to pass along some better teams to root for.

    5. JK, so sorry to hear about your dad. My mother died at 73…just seems too early, she didn’t really get a chance to see her 6 grandchildren develop into adults, and her decline was very sudden as well.

My best to you and all your family. I hope all goes well for you and your little one.

    6. Doesnt that contradict the report he wanted Bullock back.

Not necessarily, the fit would’ve been a bit weird, but our roster is weird anyway. We could’ve brought back Bullock just by not signing Noel and making small savings elsewhere.

The hindsight kinda cuts both ways, since Noel has contributed next to nothing and Bullock has been one of the worst rotation players in the NBA.

In a fantasy world where we have both Fournier and last year’s version of Bullock, we might be noticeably better though.

    7. I’m sorry for your loss and the struggle your family is going through, JK. I hope the condolences of our community can offer you some comfort, and that the RJ Barrett shot gave you a smile.

    8. JK…sending good vibes to you and yours…very sorry for your loss…if its any consolation…I lost my dad at 50….so…you got 22 more years than I did…not a day goes by where I don’t wish I had a few more…

    9. Knicks did pretty well last night. No KP, but Trey and Frank with 7 points each, Bullock with 15, THJ with 19, Theo pranced around a bit at the end, and a sizeable win. Interestingly the fat guy was out, and 12 guys played 9 or more minutes.

    10. Classic thread yesterday. Sorry about your dad, JK, it’s never easy, but I can only imagine how hard of a year it has been for you. Wishing swifty and Totes all the best as well.

Took my wife to Hamilton last night for her birthday, what an amazing experience! Seeing it on the day that the great Sidney Poitier passed away made it all the more special.

    11. Just noticed that Wednesday has the Knicks against the ex-Knicks on ESPN.

Could be a fun little scrimmage. We’ll hear from Strat a lot, I presume…

    12. Raven: Just noticed that Wednesday has the Knicks against the ex-Knicks on ESPN.
Could be a fun little scrimmage. We’ll hear from Strat a lot, I presume…

It’ll be The Strat Day. :D Probably Strat will be torn about which team he wants to win.

    13. Knicks are 4th in shot clock violations. They got one on a five on four on THursday. They look smoother now, though, at times. Randle has to channel his inner stef and the second he sees daylight behind the line, put it in. He has been dribbling less. I like aggressive as fuck RJ. I don’t care that Robert Williams sent it back three times, keep attacking. Everyone on the team needs to work on their off hand finish. RJ is actually better at it then IQ, though IQ looks like he’s adjusting. Hey, Mark Jackson had a pretty good career. But lefty layups are one of my favorite things. Mine is a killer, and I’m a fucking guitar player. It’s like the poet Art Garfunkle and free throws… NBA players should have this skill. Kiefer Sykes has this skill…

JK, you’re a better info source than anyone employed at ESPN. Thanks for all your fine posts and sorry for your loss

    14. @alderalmo: A Knicks’ win tonight will move them back to .500 (20-20), matching their start after 40 games last season.

    15. Fournier out for rest, thigh contusion. Noel still out.

We’re lost without Celtic Slayer Fournier

    16. Last I saw Fournier was a GTD. C’mon Evan, we all know you could drop 40 on these dudes with one thigh.
