    1. Mitch can be a funny dude. It would be hilarious to see him trot out onto the floor wearing Timberlands.

Have a great day, everyone! Life is good.

    2. ***I know it’s early, but I wouldn’t bet against the Warriors winning it all. They look tremendous on both ends.***

Between their Margin of Victory, their Assist Rate, their team eFG%, and their D-rating, all league high (by quite lot), it’s beginning to look a lot like 2015. Steph is being Steph, Dray is being Dray, Poole is being Klay, and Wiggins is being Harrison Barnes.

    3. BernieEarnie:
Might be time to declare a winner in the Wiggins-Russell trade.

Eh, both players are still pretty mediocre. The comparison to the 2015 GSW is probably a good one and would make Wiggins this team’s version of Harrison Barnes.

    4. Eh, both players are still pretty mediocre. The comparison to the 2015 GSW is probably a good one and would make Wiggins this team’s version of Harrison Barnes.

But Wiggins seems to fill a useful role for that team, and his contract is less crippling on a team that already has lots of talent and is perennially in the luxury tax anyway, and they also got the Kuminga pick out of it. Where’s Russell has not substantially helped Minnesota and has been hurt recently. GSW gets the W on this.

    5. Z-man:
Hope you are feeling great, Dude! Keep grindin’!

Thanks! I started a new chemo regimen a month ago and I’ve felt good for a total of 2 days since then. But I still believe that life is good despite obstacles placed in our way.

      Especially when the Knicks win.

    6. Well I for one would be very happy for Warriors fans, I mean they’ve haven’t won a championship since 2018!

    7. The major problem with Russell has always been defense.

It’s not so much that Wiggins is a very good defender, but he has been improving on both ends.

    8. Wiggins is probably playing a bit over his head now, but he’s also just playing better in ways that are sustainable-he’s shooting at the rim more, finishing at the rim better, etc. He’s massively overpaid but he looks like a pretty solid player now and Russel just sucks

    9. I’m watching a Euroleague game and look whose there, our old friend Mario Hezonja :-)
      Still a terrible defender tho…

P.S. NBA banned OJ Mayo is one of Mario’s teammates…

    10. @NY_KnicksPR
Knicks assign Miles McBride to Westchester. He will be available for tonight’s game against Long Island.

Dont expect to see much of Miles this season on the big league squad

    11. Russell’s problem has been offense, too. Career TS of 95, has never shot league-average over an entire season.

He’s never really struck me as a serious basketball player. More like a Soundcloud rapper/influencer who’s naturally pretty good at running the point. I think he sEcUrEd tHe BaG (and immediately posted a photo of himself doing his best Drake impression) during an unusual circumstance — the Warriors being faced with losing Durant for absolutely nothing, and his cap space vanishing with him — and got a huge S&T contract because it would give the Warriors lots of flexibility when they wanted to flip him. Maybe he gets a max anyway, but he sure as hell doesn’t get it from the Dubs without Durant’s insistence.

Wiggins is playing a lot of minutes on the current favorites to win the title, so he can’t be that bad. But he’s also not that good. He is not an exceptional shooter, he doesn’t create turnovers, he doesn’t rebound (8.1 TRB%) and he doesn’t pass (8.2 AST%). But he is currently setting a career high in TS%, and at 107 TS% and good team defense, there’s not much more you can ask of him. It really doesn’t matter if he’s a superstar when Steph is doing Steph things.

Obviously The Mitten is not going to continue to shoot .728 TS%, and Draymond is unlikely to continue shooting 40% from three. Poole is a huge question mark, so streaky that he could single-handedly lose them a few playoff games on his own, and Porter and Bjelica are also playing out of their minds. Point is, Wiggins can’t fall off if the Dubs want to continue to blow the league out of the water. The rest of the team is due for some regression. If he follows suit and loses 10% of his shooting efficiency, the Dubs will find themselves back in the 50-win pace instead of the ridiculous all-time SRS chasing that they’ve been doing.

I still think they win 60 barring a Curry injury, but Wiggins is going to be a critical part of that.

    12. @NYPost_Berman
Knicks rookie PG Miles McBride will play for Westchester Knicks tonight in their home opener in Bridgeport, Conn. vs. Long Island Nets.

Good. Let him get some run. There are four guys ahead of him on the PG depth chart, counting IQ and Burks, so it’s not a big deal if he’s not on the bench for a particular game.

    13. But I still believe that life is good despite obstacles placed in our way.

those are some really powerful words right there…stay well dude…

    14. The Honorable Cock Jowles: More like a Soundcloud rapper/influencer who’s naturally pretty good at running the point.

Except that’s not what happened. This is the contract Thibodeau gave him back when he was POBO for the Timberwolves back in 2017.

    15. ***Wiggins is probably playing a bit over his head now, but he’s also just playing better in ways that are sustainable-he’s shooting at the rim more, finishing at the rim better, etc. He’s massively overpaid but he looks like a pretty solid player now***

I proposed it here late one night and I’m not sure if it was roundly rejected (as I suspected it might be) or not, but Wiggins and Barrett appear to be on pretty similar career arcs: both super-hyped 17 year olds with athletic and mature bodies who are good at many things, but great at none. Wiggins suffered from the Bargnani effect of being overrated and overpaid from the get-go, but he’s been a solid pro and is primary contributor on a true contender. Barrett just looks like a similar player with similar drawbacks to me when I watch him play. But a Wiggins-like outcome for Barrett would be pretty good, even if it’s not the sexiest package.

    16. ***Maybe he gets a max anyway, but he sure as hell doesn’t get it from the Dubs without Durant’s insistence.
Except that’s not what happened. This is the contract Thibodeau gave him back when he was POBO for the Timberwolves back in 2017.***

I think Jowles is talking about Russell here, not Wiggins.

    17. Russell’s problem has been offense, too. Career TS of 95, has never shot league-average over an entire season.

I don’t think it’s fair to look at a young player’s career TS%. Most young players improve. He’s been getting more efficient all along and he’s still only 25 now. Not that he was ever efficient, but the last couple of years he’s been better. This year the sample is still too small. He’s clearly overpaid, but I think the bigger issue is defense.

    18. The key for the Warriors is what Klay has left and how long it takes him to hit whatever the current peak is going to be. He hasn’t played in so long it could take until the playoffs or even next year until he starts looking close to what he used to be on both sides. If by some miracle he comes back and is close to as good as he was after a month or so, they are going to be very good with Steph, Klay, and Draymond all playing well again, and Wiggins in the Harrison Barnes role. But those teams also had Bogut to defend the middle, Iggy was still close to his peak, Livingston was a key bench piece and they still had other depth. Wiseman will have big shoes to fill defensively and Iggy may need to find the fountain of youth.

    19. i was trying to make an argument we should trade for derrick white but i can’t quite do it. i like derrick white. i think he’s a damn good defender, seems pretty underrated in that sense. and we can use a very good guard defender. he’s also a guy who can play pseudo pg by effectively getting the team into its offense without needing to pound the ball. that’s also something that fits with most of our lineups. and he’s at least not an anti-spacer, though that’s a little in the eye of the beholder at the moment. finally, he’s on a long term contract that will probably be a mid level deal by the time it’s over.

the spurs should probably trade him if they can get a decent price. they’re 4-10, going nowhere, and he’s already 27. he’s been very injury prone, which isn’t a great risk reward for them as a currently blah team. and they have a lot of young guards on their roster.

but we are both too deep and too far from contention to be excited about that. white would be replacing someone who does not totally suck at basketball. we’d be taking all the injury risk and giving up some kind of meaningful young player / draft assets, just to have a team that is plainly still not a contender.

      in conclusion nothing.

    20. Good to hear Deuce will get some playing time. He’s a break in case of emergency PG this year and so far there’s been no emergencies.

Wondering if he’ll be back for our next road trip, or if he’ll stay there until another guard gets injured.

    21. Donnie Walsh: But a Wiggins-like outcome for Barrett would be pretty good, even if it’s not the sexiest package.

A Wiggins outcome would be disastrous. Dude’s never had a positive BPM or an above average TS%.

Donnie Walsh: I think Jowles is talking about Russell here, not Wiggins.

      Duh, I’m a moron.

    22. pt it’s truly difficult to think of potential trade upgrades for this team. Our depth is a blessing and a curse in that sense. We have 11 players who all might be as good or better than any non-superstar we can get on the trade market this season.

Maybe if Detroit makes Grant available you could talk yourself into that? His fit would still be unclear and he quietly fell off pretty hard after a hot start last year.

    23. Maybe if Detroit makes Grant available you could talk yourself into that? His fit would still be unclear and he quietly fell off pretty hard after a hot start last year.

Yeah, he feels much more valuable as a 4 than a 3, and that’s not our position of need. Detroit’s also not just going to give him away, even though he’s probably not on their timeline anymore. Would you be willing to give up, say, Quickley, multiple picks, and some of our depth as salary filler to acquire the guy?

(On the plus side, it would once again allow us to revisit the failed attempt to sign Harvey Grant all those years ago, which in turn would have prevented Charles Smith from ever becoming a Knick.)

    24. I play a shitton of chess and watching two Super GMs play classical is duller than watching paint dry. Give me a blitz or rapid championship or give me death.

    25. ***A Wiggins outcome would be disastrous. Dude’s never had a positive BPM or an above average TS%.***

Wiggins is well above league average TS% right now, was at league average last year, and actually did have a slightly above average TS% his second season, when he was 20. Something Barrett hasn’t even close to. Bit that is kind of the point of the comp. Wiggins has slowly turned into a productive and useful basketball player as a primary option on a title contender despite being inefficient and overhyped for much of his career. He’s been an innings-eater (like Barrett is sure to be), which is also useful, and he’s playing 30 mins a night on the #1 ranked defense in the league, so (like Barrett should be) he’s more than a capable defender. That’s not a disastrous outcome from Barrett, who, statistically, has actually been arguably worse over his first 4500 minutes than Wiggins was.

He is well above but it’s only been 14 games, let’s wait and see if he can maintain that over a whole season. He’s also shooting career highs at the rim, on long 2s, and at the FT line.

Really, I’d argue that Wiggins is incidental to the Warriors’ success this year. I’d guess that with Curry going off to start the season and Dray being Dray that you could replace Wiggins with any vaguely competent 3 in the league and it wouldn’t affect their success.

    27. Maybe if Detroit makes Grant available you could talk yourself into that? His fit would still be unclear and he quietly fell off pretty hard after a hot start last year.

yeah another totally reasonable thought that is hard to talk yourself into given that detroit will only do it for real value. and the cheaper guys, like kyle anderson who is in his walk year and coming off the bench, are just not enough of an improvement to care about. that basically leaves a blockbuster or a trade that can dramatically change our lineup possibilities even if the upgrade isn’t exciting. by that i obv mean a stretch 5 that is enough of an actual 5 to satisfy thibs. so, back to old flame myles turner. or if we want to see what it looks like for a weeble wobble to vigorously attempt to strangle gumby then maybe mo bamba.

    28. Early Bird: I’ll check in on it now and again. Didn’t even realize that was going on, so thanks for the heads up!

FIDE’s marketing department is a joke

I respect this take. But the stakes are just so damn high for it to not be fun. Nothing this championship will beat this savage game.

    30. getting ready to start episode II in a minute, got to briefly stand in lord vader’s presence in episode I…

there’s this one scene where you get to move along a ledge over looking an environment flowing with lava…so cool at times to be able to look down, up, behind and side to side…

gotta figure out what better audio options there are for the face thing…

    31. Sending Grimes to Weschester is a saavy move by the front office.

I am appreciating the long-term vision to use the G-League for developmental purposes.

    32. Barrettcuda: Sending Grimes to Weschester is a saavy move by the front office.

      It’s McBride, not Grimes.

    33. @IanBegley
Tom Thibodeau says it’s important to have Miles McBride with the NBA club as often as possible but Knicks want him to play a game w/G League’s Westchester club when it’s possible. Thibodeau says he loves what he’s seen from McBride & believes he has a bright future in the league.

    34. not an admission i’m watching westchester but mcbride played the entire first and went 9 and 4ast, should have been 6. he was good and bad. bottomed a three and absolutely clanged one off the glass. had his cookies snatched badly in the open court but otherwise made smart plays. samanic looks mobile coming back from injury. considering an aamir simms mug warmer. i will give up on him when cska moscow does.

    35. Clyde with the line of the century: “IQ is like the girl with the curl, when he’s good, he’s very good!” Hahaha

    36. I’m a bit worried by Randle’s passive defense, but all the starters have scored,
      usually it’s a good sign…

    37. Ugly, both teams struggling with the shots and dumb turnovers, but we’re up…
… And IQ and Obi are ready to unleash…

    38. IQ to Toppin! These two have a solid feel for each other. Reminiscent of their summer league connection.

    39. Max:
Surprisingly, Rose and Toppin with 4 TO in 7 minutes combined…
