    1. I wonder what offers the Sixers have gotten and rejected for Simmons? Quite a battle of wills/egos going on there.

    2. 5 reasons to be happy the Mavs beat the Celts in excruciating fashion:
      They’re the Celts
We don’t have the Mavs’ pick this year
      They’re the Celts
Celts are in our division/conference and 1 game could affect playoff seeding
      They’re the Celts

It is interesting. But the Sixers have the best record in the East without him. Which is also somewhat interesting.

    4. God, I f’ing hate Morey. Yes, Simmons is a baby, but just trade the guy already. All the Sixers have done is lowered his trade value even more.

Idk if they were even offered Brogdon, but just imagine how much he would help their current team… more than Ben would surely help the Pacers.

It really does seem like a spite play now.

    5. Through all this mess I really hate that Simmons is playing the mental disability card. That clause–so important in labor negotiations–is being mocked and trivialised. God help the next player with actual mental health issues who needs to invoke it.

    6. Tonight is an important game. After this game, we play red-hot Philly on the SGOABTB, then the Bucks who will be looking for revenge, then CHA who can beat anyone, then IND which will be a revenge game for us. It would be nic to be 7-3 going into those 4 games and to be, say, 9-5 or better coming out.

Beyond that, we have two games against ORL and HOU that we should win unless we play down to their level, which we seem a bit prone to do. Hopefully we’ll be 11-5 after that.

Then a brutal 7-game stretch: @CHI, LAL, PHX, @ATL, @BKN, CHI, DEN. It would be nice to go no worse than 3-4, which would put us at 14-9. That would be a relatively representative stretch of games and would put us on track for 50 wins. I could live with that.

    7. The thing I despise about Morey is that he never gave a shit about building chemistry or team identity beyond style of play. What he did to Jeremy Lin, who he drooled over so much that he signed him to a BS poison pill contract, by putting up a giant banner with Melo wearing Lin’s #7 while Lin was still on the team was so grotesquely disrespectful. Not to mention other stuff he’s done. Whatever bad karma that comes his way is well-deserved. (I suppose you can throw him a bone for criticizing China, but even that came across to me as self-serving.)

I’m glad that we have a POBO/GM combo that are people-persons, not cold, calculating dead fish. Even if they don’t have the player valuation and chess-game skills that Morey has, rooting for morey would be the same as rooting for an insufferable asshole star player. Philly can have him.

    8. ess-dog:
      Btw how good is Canelo?

I wish Canelo could have gotten a rematch against Floyd when he had a little more experience under his belt. Floyd may have outboxed him again, but imo the only way to beat Floyd was to pressure him hard. A more experienced and smarter Canelo might have been big enough, strong enough, and smart enough to pull it off. I guess that’s why Floyd went after him early in his career and they never fought again.

    9. Alan:
Berman of the Post is both trying to stir up trouble regarding Kemba starting over Rose, and keeping alive the narrative that we’d be interested in Colin Sexton.

They are both going to have games where their scoring was critical to the win. As long as Rose is the finisher I’m fine with whoever starts. I think Rose is less error prone under pressure.

    10. I’m glad that we have a POBO/GM combo that are people-persons, not cold, calculating dead fish. Even if they don’t have the player valuation and chess-game skills that Morey has, rooting for morey would be the same as rooting for an insufferable asshole star player. Philly can have him.

Philly have both, a dickhead feelingless GM and an insufferable asshole star player.
And now they’re fighting, it’s really nice.

    11. MJ Walker scored 24 for Westchester and Samanic had 17 in the first half before getting injured. I’ll be following both of them.

    12. I think Morey is simultaneously underrated and overrated depending on who you are talking to. IMO, he has made a boatload of mistakes, but he does a great job of escaping from his mistakes and ending in a good position.

I can see why he’s playing hardball with Simmons. It’s actually probably good for the league. Otherwise, what’s the point of giving out long term contracts for ownership? You get stuck with the bad ones and the good ones can ask to leave if they aren’t happy with the team. city, etc….? How does that make sense?

I said this before. At some point though, 75% of something is better than 100% of nothing. At some point you just have to make a deal for the benefit of the team in terms of basketball and chemistry.

    13. Canelo is obviously good but he is also very carefully matched. He delayed his fights with Golovkin for as long as he could, until GGG lost a step, then in my opinion lost both of the fights and got very generous decisions both times. He went up to light heavyweight to pluck a belt from a very vulnerable and old Sergey Kovalev, then scooted out of the division back down to super middleweight rather than take on the truly dangerous Artur Beterbiev, a nasty piece of work at 175.

Caleb Plant was the top opponent in a very thin division. Canelo did beat him easily but in a different era Plant is a back end top 10 kind of fighter and not the second best guy in the division.

It’s hard to compare the relative primes of Canelo and Mayweather. Mayweather’s best weight was 135 and Canelo’s best weight is probably 168. They crossed paths at a time when Canelo could still make a 152 pound catch weight so it was a plausible fight, but they are really two very different sized humans.

    14. Smart move resting Kemba on a B2B. Will be nice seeing more defense in the rotation with Grimes and/or Miles

Assuming Thibs doesn’t just shorten the rotation. But if was willing to play Jericho Sims in those first couple of games, he should absolutely play one of the other rookies tonight. (Which one will depend on whether IQ is playing backup PG or not, I guess.)

    16. Agree JK, but Golovkin is also a once-in-a-lifetime fighter. I would say they were pretty equally great in their primes but of course Canelo has a sexier fight style.

And Plant is no slouch! He fought a very good fight but just ran out of gas and got clocked.

    17. Alan: Which one will depend on whether IQ is playing backup PG or not, I guess.

Of course he is, they’re trying hard to make Quick a PG (which might be a big mistake, but we’ll see). So it’s Grimes that should play.

    18. I think Thibs keeps the 2nd unit intact and starts Deuce. He’s a tough defender and can hit the 3 point shot. Look for Randle to bring the ball up though.

    19. I’ll bet Rose starts, IQ backs up at PG with Burks sharing the second unit ballhandling, and if we’re up 25 with 4 minutes left we’ll see Deuce take over.

    20. Raven: I’ll bet Rose starts, IQ backs up at PG with Burks sharing the second unit ballhandling, and if we’re up 25 with 4 minutes left we’ll see Deuce take over.

Exactly. And Grimes takes the vacant spot in the 2nd unit.

    21. @KnickerBloggerPowerRankings: Sorry man, this weekend is getting by me fast… so yesterday i couldn’t do as i promised. But here i am today to make good of my word. ;)

(i’m with very little time, so i asked a friend and he sent me this. then i made some comments on it)
      – Serra do Pilar, in the Gaia side of the river, to see the sunset
      – Five bridges cruise on a Rabelo boat
      – St. Francis Church (and recently St Claire Church re-opened after restoration works, maybe check it out also)
      – Stock Market Palace
      – Crystal Palace / Rosa Mota (They have now a climb to the dome of the arena, probably with a superb view of the city and river/sea, but i can’t tell much as i’ve never done it)
      – Serralves Gardens and Contemporanean Museum
      – Have lunch at the Majestic (One of Porto’s oldest cafes)
      – dinner at Wish (I don’t know this one, it was a friend that said it’s a must do)
      – Drink a Port at WoW (It’s the World of Wine museum, it should have opened in 2020, but then came covid and they had to delay it. Never been there, but people say wonders of it)
      – Visit Sandeman cellars
      – Ride on the tram from Ribeira to Foz
      – Take the “Funicular” (it’s a elevator-tram from the upper level of Ribeira, to the river level, along the Fernandine Walls, with the most well preserved part of our town’s medieval fortifications)
IMPORTANT: first trip, take the “funicular” from the upper level to the river level, and not the other way around (when doing it, you’ll get why i say this).

And 2 links that i found interesting:
Search for Porto’s authentic origins by visiting the most thrilling viewpoints ever in town (with a video, for you and for anyone who wants to know my hometown better)
      thecommonwanderer…

    22. Looks like i get excited “talking” about my hometown and i exceeded the maximum chars. :P
What was left out was that this last link is from a blog from a foreigner couple, so maybe they’re not biased (as i probably am). ;)

    23. not to be too weird, why so busy? family/work/friends kind of busy, or – more doing stuff you wanna do busy?

not that work and family can’t be enjoyable, or can’t be a simultaneous activity…

or is it that you just feel busy, sensation of time moving quickly?

    24. You’re so funny, Geo. I loved the “or is it that you just feel busy, sensation of time moving quickly?“, but it’s only a lot of work. Which might come down to the regular levels of a software developer (a little bit higher than normal people, i’m afraid) in the next days, because one part of the project is online since wednesday and that might keep the client busy, which then can let me do my work without being annoyed all the time. LOL

    25. Thibs said Rose is starting. And also:

      @NYPost_Berman
Thibodeau won’t commit to Deuce or Grimes

The news is annoying, Berman even more…

    27. Kemba is going to be really fresh for tomorrow’s game now. Hopefully he comes out hot.
