    1. From the last thread:

Z-man: cyber, did u get my message?

Yes, i did. I’m going to check a little of the game for sure. Here it’ll be 9PM, much more appropriate than the hours at which i watch the Knicks (we’re good now, so if i watched the lolKnicks seasons, i’m not going to stop now). During the weekend i have more time and i’ll answer your email. ;)

    2. Mike Kurylo:
Are we sharing ear worms? Here’s mine:

They’re amazing. Already had a day here, because i heard them on KEXP (from Seattle, i listen in the internet). I like the bass line a lot, as i enjoy music with a prominent bass. I think it’s a new band, i only see 2 musics on Spotify, but didn’t search them further than that.

    3. @owenlhjphillips
Today’s F5 is the last one

Excited to announce that I’ll be working for the New York Knicks on the coaching analytics team alongside @nickrestifo

      Knicks add another analytics guy

    4. swiftandabundant:
      THCJ,
I misread your post as I wonder why “swing” never made a comeback and I was thinking “you mean another comeback after the mid 90’s one?”

One of the worst revivals in pop music. Almost as bad as third-wave ska.

    5. one of my dreams is to spend an afternoon at the track with you watching the horses run :)

      geo,

      lmao

I’ll be at Belmont today for the 9th race. I own a small percentage of a horse named D’Vinicris with some friends. He’s running today. So it’s Belmont, then a mad dash home to bet the Breeder’s Cup races from DelMar. Wish us luck. We are going to need it with this horse . :-)

    6. Knicks getting praise online even by noted Knicks hater John Hollinger for their recent analytics department hirings.

    7. Very excited about these hirings and the general direction overall. They seem to be bringing in smart people, something they didn’t see the need to do for a very long time.

Phoenix by Big Red Machine is my favorite song of the year. Perfect Dad Rock.

Chaise Longue is a song I hate to love.

And that Shanice video is a real trip. Kind of awesome. Brings me back to teenage days.

    8. Have a bad feeling about tonight’s game. I believe the problems with the team are fixable, but that it’s going to take a while, and that Giannis and all those shooters are going to carve us up.

      Prove me wrong, Thibs. Please.

    9. It’s okay, what are the chances that Kemba Walker & Derrick Rose suddenly stop hitting 50% of their 3s? Everything is FINE.

    10. I like the little bit of Wet Leg that I’ve heard. Not sure any band needs three guitarists, though. I guess the lead singer really uses hers more as a prop? Chaise Longue is pretty infectious.

    11. There was a very long time in which the Knicks’ website listed exactly one person under “analytics staff” or whatever and I’m pretty sure the guy also had other jobs

    12. With Lopez, Middleton and DiVincenzo all still out and Jrue just returning from an injury this isn’t exactly a juggernaut Bucks team. Thanasis has been starting games for them and they’ve got 3 or 4 “who he play for?” candidates getting serious rotation minutes right now. Anything can happen, butt the idea of playing against the Bucks is a lot scarier than the actual thing right now.

    13. pepper:
      from memory

      iron maiden
      April wine
      38 special

      great 3 guitar bands

Didn’t Lynyrd Skynyrd have four or five at one time?
      :-)

    14. On the humor side of KB, there’s an amusing read about Westbrook on The Ringer if folks are bored. Some grin-inducing turns of phrase.

wow, 6 to 1 in a 12 horse field, that horse must be pretty good…have fun strat and good luck…

westbrook did some awful basketball stuff at the end of that game…seriously, it was like the whole laker team was treating him like toxic waste coming off the floor…

    17. Not sure any band needs three guitarists, though.

Tell that to the E Street Band, which has 4 at most shows these days, and sometimes 5 if Morello or another guest is touring with them.

    18. yes! I’m seeing them at the mercury lounge in december.

i was checking out the pics from this location, man, you are going to have so much fun there hubie…

okay, despite the bad air and a billion human beings surrounding you 24/7, i guess there are some pretty decent benefits to living inside a city like new york – you got me on this one…i wanna go see wet leg and their weird 80’s rock at the mercury lounge…chill spot like that with a high degree of potential muffin buttering afterwards…

    19. Alan: Tell that to the E Street Band, which has 4 at most shows these days, and sometimes 5 if Morello or another guest is touring with them.

So, what actual band holds the record for most guitarists onstage at one time? All-star jam sessions don’t count…

    20. TheClashFan: So, what actual band holds the record for most guitarists onstage at one time?All-star jam sessions don’t count…

maybe some iterationo of the eagles?

    21. Wet Leg has an effortless cool and charm. They have a fun factor that’s missing in a lot of younger rock bands these days. I really like the first two singles a lot and I’m really curious to see what they can do over a full length album.

    22. The funny thing about the E Street Band is that Nils Lofgren replaced Steve Van Zandt, And when Steve came back, he kept them both. Then Morello joined the band, and he carried all three. So he has Lofgren, a world class guitarist, basically playing 3rd string lead. He puts him in the game only for his obligatory solos on Because The Night and Youngstown. It’s like having Ginobili as your 3rd string shooting guard because you already have Curry and the coach’s 6’5” son on the roster.

    23. And Bruce is a pretty fair guitarist himself, and Patti got promoted from tambourine and backup a long time ago. So you’ll just have this wall of guitarists up front during some songs.

    24. Alan:

So, spectacle? That’s fine, and give all your buds a few paychecks. But, if Spinal Tap only needed two axmen, that’s good enough for me!
      :-)

    25. ***And Bruce is a pretty fair guitarist himself, and Patti got promoted from tambourine and backup a long time ago. So you’ll just have this wall of guitarists up front during some songs.***

The other funny thing is that for most songs, the solo goes to the saxophonist.

    26. man, i really do need more (and recent) music stories in my life…jerry cantrell did a show at the pico union project, pretty small venue, and he had:
Greg Puciato (backing vocals), Terra Lopez (backing vocals), Tyler Bates (guitar), Johnny Scaglione (acoustic guitar), James Lomenzo (bass/backing vocals), Gil Sharone (drums), Jordan Lewis (keyboards), and Michael Rozon (pedal steel guitar).

plus him switching different guitars for each song, all that up on some tiny little stage, total of five playing…sadly that evening i was doing the driving and couldn’t really drink, so i overindulged a bit with the edibles and had a little trouble staying standing for the first hour or so, you could feel the guitars through the floor though…it was so cool…

    27. I was never a big Springsteen fan. I mean, I like some of the hits or whatever. But then I went to see him live at Giants Stadium back in 2009 or so. This was before Clarence died, so it was the full E street band. They performed for like 3 hours and did the entire Born to Run album. And seeing Springsteen live at Giants stadium in Jersey…it made me a believer.

    28. I was a crazy Bruce fan, did watch him live four times (including his first ever italian concert, back in 1985).
Music was such a big part of my life for so many years I find it hard to believe that today I rarely listen something, but some Springsteen’s song still give me chills…

    29. I went to the Sandy 12/12/12 concert at MSG and sat to the side of the stage and could see behind all the bands. I couldn’t believe how many musicians – guitars, keys, etc. – were behind the stage when Springsteen played. Must have been 6 or 7 of them that 90% of the audience couldn’t see

Clapton on the other hand (putting aside his despicable political views) came out with just a bass player and drummer and filled the whole garden with amazing sound. Just incredible

@cyber I’m out here in Lisbon and boy…. is canned fish divine

LOL. Yes, it is. :) Are you having a good time? I since then have managed to put 2 and 2 together… you’re here for the WebSummit… “duuuh, cyber!” :D
Too bad my software company is still a one man band, but i’m building my portfolio of modules, and maybe next year or the year after i can go there and promote it. ;)

    31. Speaking of live music i’m going to Emma Ruth Rundle’s concert, here in Porto, next February. The venue sold out in 2 days… i’m proud of my hometown, a lot of people with very good taste in music. Anyone here a big Emma fan, like myself? :)

    32. Hah! Yeah I figured out there’s actually a tech thing going on when I saw all these folks with techstars t shirts. I’m afraid this trip is just purely pleasure. Espresso, wine, canned fish, and fado all day everyday.

    33. KnickerBloggerPowerRankings:

      Really? That’s even funnier! :D
My Lisbon contacts let me down, but if you still need advices for my hometown, and probably the most beautiful city in the world, you let me know and i’ll do my best. ;)

    34. Plan is to go to Porto on Sunday or Monday. Feels good to travel internationally again.

    35. I wasn’t a big Springsteen fan before I saw him in concert, either, Swifty. Then I finally saw him at the old Brendan Byrne arena in the summer of 99.

And I still wasn’t a big Springsteen fan. Honestly I think the guy is a mass hypnotist or something, and I’m genetically immune.

    36. Ha. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan or anything. Just that seeing him live in Jersey where his biggest fans are in Giants stadium. Like I understood why he was so big.

    37. KnickerBloggerPowerRankings: Plan is to go to Porto on Sunday or Monday. Feels good to travel internationally again.

Ok, check KB tomorrow at the end of the day. I can’t promise but i’ll try to send you some cool stuff to do here.

    38. Didn’t realize techstars had a place in Lisbon. They’re everywhere now, but come from Colorado.

    39. Look for me at the Knicks game tonight in the 10th on the corner to the left of the left bench (from the cameras point of view). Will be wearing a red hat and my Knicks jacket.

      Bing bong!!

    40. @FredKatz
Jrue Holiday “is expected to be available” tonight against the Knicks, Mike Budenholzer says

    41. geo: wow, 6 to 1 in a 12 horse field, that horse must be pretty good…have fun strat and good luck…

      Geo,

He made a huge close late and finished 2nd. We were thrilled with his effort. Fun day.

    42. Berman:

Westchester Knicks open tonight. Thibodeau said he really wants rookies Miles McBride and center Jericho Sims with club for time being. It’s best for Knicks, he said. Will try to spot them a G League game here and there.

    43. Hey Z-Man, congrats on your daughter’s qualification to the final game. :) To come from a 2 set deficit against the number 1 seed and win the game was amazing. I watched the beginning, and almost thought i was bringing bad luck, then i went to have dinner and got back in the final set with the score 10-8 for St Lawrence, but this time around they were rolling. ;) Watching parts of the game made me remember how many times volleyball referees blow the whistle in a game, way too many. LOL
