Hey Joe, don’t listen to Sports Illustrated, man. The current nursing home of the NBA is located at Staples Center, so you send your resumé there and you might have a chance! :D

This might change Kyrie’s strong beliefs, when he acknowledges that he’ll be paid less than half* his salary for the season.
      * – the MSG games are also considered local to Nets players.

    2. Even though I think RJ’s and Mitch’s development are much more important to next season’s success, Obi’s would be the most satisfying. He sounds like a really nice individual.

    3. This week in fantasies:

The best thing that could happen to Obi is that report of Noel practicing 3’s be both true and an indication of how we intend to use him. If Noel can pull a Brooks Lopez and recreate his offensive role in the second half of his career, it would create the space to unlock a devastating 2nd unit with Rose, Quickley, Burks, and Obi operating as the only big. He doesn’t even need to be as good as Lopez. Just hitting corner 3’s at a league average rate would be incredible.

    4. we’re young and we got legs

that was a short and fun interview with obi…sometimes it’s easy to forget just how young even some of the “older” young players are…and, then they speak…

it’ll be interesting to see if thibs uses him somewhere other than just at power forward…

early on in the season I’m gonna be most curious to see how mitch looks, hopefully he can get out on the court right from the beginning even if he can’t play big minutes…

I enjoy watching nerlens practice his handle all the time during warm ups…

his shot looks decent from inside, would be very cool to have a 5 that can shoot from beyond the arc…

      +1

Those shots of Obi’s mom crying in the playoffs last season with the Garden chanting, “Obi! Obi! Obi!” — love.

Let (all) the kids play ;-)

    7. While Brook Lopez’s 3-pointers did legitimately skyrocket late in his career (from 31 total 3pa prior to his age 28 season to 387 that year) he was always a super skilled offensive player and long 2s were always a part of his arsenal until he replaced them all with 3s and he shot the long 2 very well. Nerlens did take some jumpers when he was younger but wasn’t great at it and it has been 5 years since he has taken them at all, nobody would describe him as a particularly skilled offensive player.

We’ve heard this same 3-pointer chatter about Mitch at least a couple camps and it never has come close to being anything; I think people underestimate the difference between “this guy looks pretty good shooting alone in a gym” to “this guy is comfortable shooting 3s in an NBA game”. I will take the under on 5 3-pointers attempted for Noel this season.

    8. I would also be very happy if Obi’s play takes a leap this season, both because he seems like a great kid and because it would hurt less, team construction-wise, to build a trade package around him than to do it around RJ. Even a fully-realized version of Obi is fairly redundant with our best player, and Thibs was pretty clear in his comments yesterday that he doesn’t like how our defense looks when he tries playing Obi and Julius together.

    9. Even a fully-realized version of Obi is fairly redundant with our best player,

–assuming Julius has learned to hit three pointers in an arena full of people ;-)

And, I’ve been making offerings to the gods all summer in hope that he can.

    10. Alan: Very informative Twitter thread from the NBA officiating account offering video examples of the kind of foul-baiting that will now be called as offensive, rather than defensive, fouls. Trae is in one of the videos. IQ, thankfully, is not.

Actually, IQ is the last player in the last video shown illegally hooking someone’s arm. Elf comes up actually defending correctly(!), and RJ comes up jumping into Lonnie Walker’s landing space at the 3. I think Thibs is loving these new rules, and IQ is scheming a new move

    11. Breakthrough cases closed the Broadway show Aladdin yesterday. Should we be firing workers with robust natural immunity while allowing those vaccinated with less protection to roam free? Why not at least allow for antibody testing before firing people?

    12. Actually, IQ is the last player in the last video shown illegally hooking someone’s arm.

Ah, sorry. I didn’t watch the videos all the way through.

Yes, my hope is that Thibs and company will coach IQ out of his natural impulse to hunt for contact on some possessions rather than focusing on getting the cleanest possible shot. With his range, he can still be lethal on offense even without the more blatant foul-baiting. But we’ll see.

    13. Breakthrough cases closed the Broadway show Aladdin yesterday. Should we be firing workers with robust natural immunity while allowing those vaccinated with less protection to roam free? Why not at least allow for antibody testing before firing people?

Why don’t you cut it out with this fucking bullshit already. We don’t know how robust natural immunity is compared to vaccinated immunity unless you’re accepting the results of the Israeli study as completely bulletproof.

Here’s another recent study that says over a third of people infected with Covid produce no antibodies:
      https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/27/9/21-1042_article

Is that study correct? I don’t know. It’s one of many studies that are out there. Seems like we need more data to really get a good sense of how much immunity a previous Covid infection provides before we allow anti-vax nutters to hang out with the sane people.

Shut the fuck up about this now. We don’t know the answers to some of these questions and it’s getting really fucking tiring dealing with anti-vax idiocy on this blog.

    14. Now that we have daily new threads again, I’d like to make a modest proposal:

If anyone wants to continue with yesterday’s argument, do it in yesterday’s thread. Let today’s thread always be a fresh start so the innocent bystanders can enjoy a new topic.

    15. If anyone wants to continue with yesterday’s argument, do it in yesterday’s thread. Let today’s thread always be a fresh start so the innocent bystanders can enjoy a new topic.

      Great idea.

A third? What about the other TWO THIRDS? That’s over a hundred million people. Why not allow for antibody tests before firing them? Are you some sort of a communist? Also, watch your foul language, sonny.

    17. Also, sonny, I’m not anti-vax. Your body, your choice. But I am pro-freedom and I care about our brave healthcare workers losing their jobs.

    18. Anyone who denies that natural immunity can be robust and can provide strong protection against Covid is anti-science. Testing should be performed voluntarily and should be considered proof of immunity instead of taking away people’s livlihoods.

    19. IQ tried some of his foul baiting early on in SL which didnt get called but seemed to slowly adjust as the games went on. Will take a few months to adjust but i think he will be fine

    20. *Also, sonny, I’m not anti-vax. Your body, your choice. But I am pro-freedom and I care about our brave healthcare workers losing their jobs.*

Ah yes, the Patrick Henrys of the modern age. Those heroes with the bravery to stand up against injustice. They who man the bulwark against tyrannical overreach. “Give me the choice to avoid medical protocol while I minister to the sick, or give me unemployment!” Their battle cry will reverberate through the ages, as future generations remember the bravery that went unacknowledged by those heroes’ craven peers.

    21. Hubert: If anyone wants to continue with yesterday’s argument, do it in yesterday’s thread. Let today’s thread always be a fresh start so the innocent bystanders can enjoy a new topic.

Sorry, this time it was me, i started the day with Kyrie’s anti-vax stance. I’ll take this in consideration from now on.

    22. A third? What about the other TWO THIRDS? That’s over a hundred million people. Why not allow for antibody tests before firing them? Are you some sort of a communist?

There are 43 million confirmed Covid cases in the US, so I don’t know what mook math you’re doing to get to the number that over a hundred million people have natural Covid immunity. What I do know is that your posts on this are utterly worthless, so maybe go post your bullshit in the other thread so we don’t have to read it. Sonny.

    23. Mandatory hand washing: sound medical practice or tyrannical overreach? I should have the right to scratch my asshole and then perform open heart surgery on you without washing my hands because FREEDOM

I mean there’s a reason germ theory is called a THEORY, bros

    24. I am really excited about the rule changes and I think a lot of serious fans are going to feel that way also. I love Trae and Luka and Harden but the loophole they found a way to exploit has taken over the game. A reset was in order.

It’s going to be super interesting to see who rises and falls with these changes or whether things just kind of even out. It’s honestly one of the things I am most excited about with the new season.

    25. Also, this….

      I love you Mitch.

      Stefan Bondy
      @SBondyNYDN
Mitchell Robinson on adding strength and weight in the off-season.

      “I look great.”

    26. There is very little in Nerlens career that makes me optimistic about him shooting 3s. Brook Lopez was a good shooter before he started shooting 3s, the best you can say about Nerlens is that he’s a better shooter than Mitchel Robinson.

    27. I love Trae and Luka and Harden but the loophole they found a way to exploit has taken over the game. A reset was in order.

I read something that said Quick is already trying to figure out a way use the new rules better.

    28. What’s weird about Dude’s inability to shut the fuck up is I don’t think anyone has come out particularly strongly against the idea that prior infection provides some level of immunity. Like JK pointed out exactly how much is very unsettled at the moment, but my layman’s read of what’s out there leads me to the conclusion it’s probably fairly robust.

And yet, I am still a-okay with it not counting as a substitute for vaccination. We’ve got reams of peer-reviewed data, both from trials and the real world, as to the immunity vaccines provide. It’s not the clearest picture in the world in terms of precision, but literally all of it demonstrates a high level of effectiveness. We don’t have that for “natural immunity.”

Also even if we were to determine prior infection without vaccination is as good or better than vaccination, it still makes plenty of sense as a public policy matter to not incentivize a bunch of yahoos to intentionally contract Covid instead of getting the (free, widely available, safe, effective) vaccine for obvious reasons.

    29. While I’d like to see how Obi and Randle work in a offense together with a much better pick and roll guard in Kemba, I agree with Thibs that it probably won’t be effective long-term and defensively might be an issue. The second unit was great once DRose came aboard so I wouldn’t mess with the chemistry. Having said that, it’s worth experimenting with to just give the opposing defense a different look.

I think that is the exact fear.

It’s a variation of the “noble lie”. This one is the “noble don’t talk about the full truth”.

IMO, they are absolutely afraid that a bunch of lunatics are going to decide getting infected is better than getting vaccinated. How you can be that stupid I don’t know? It’s obvious that even if the risks of vaccination are a little higher than advertised, they are still way lower than Covid. But there are crazy people out there that won’t understand that.

    31. Mandatory hand washing: sound medical practice or tyrannical overreach?

      haha.

If we’re going with radicalized freedom, I want to stop wearing pants.

And maybe try driving drunk. Looks like fun. I’ve done my research and it says 99% of people who drive drunk don’t die, so why should I be forced to obey?

    32. You just need to claim your a Moor and naturally exempt from US laws. Better bring some guns too. Or better confiscate your neighbors home.

    33. It’s obvious that even if the risks of vaccination are a little higher than advertised

What the hell are you talking about? Who is doing this “advertising?”

The CDC has rigorously documented every single known side effect, been transparent about how many times they’ve occurred, and even recommended a pause in the distribution of the J&J vaccine in response to one (which uber-lefty hardcoe vaccine advocate Ron DeSantis says was a mistake).

There is no way to torture the data to come to any conclusion other than that they are much, much safer than multiple things almost everyone does every single day.

Sorry man, not gonna let you sneak in soft anti-vax nonsense.

    34. In the Israeli study, the one that hasn’t even gone through peer review but you keep citing, there were 8 out of 16,000 vaccinated people who went to the hospital. That’s 0.05%. Not 5%, 0.05%. The vaccine is extraordinarily effective.

    35. Embiiid firing back at Simmons today saying they’ve always tried to build the team to suit his unique needs. The seeming inability of everyone in that situation to do the only rational thing and go along to get along at least temporarily is wild to me. It doesn’t seem to me like anyone’s interests are being served by how this is playing out; the Sixers would clearly be better off with Simmons on the court trying to rebuild some value and Simmons doesn’t seem to be actually leveraging himself any closer to a deal actually happening and in the meantime he’s going to be paying fines and sacrificing salary for what?

Always a pleasure to see our division rivals being unnecessarily messy though.

    36. Sixers could have been Bad Motherfuckers during the last few years just by controlling the egos of their players and by simply avoiding Stupid moves.
They’re The Kings of “If X player fix …”
The process Did Worked but the Team dies each season on another perfectly gardened hill…
      I LOVE It!

    37. ***Embiiid firing back at Simmons today saying they’ve always tried to build the team to suit his unique needs.***

Yeah, they lost Jimmy Butler because he wanted to handle the ball more but he also didn’t want to undermine Simmons. So he took the path of least resistance and went to Miami, where they have great management, coaching, and personnel.

The sucky thing for Embiid is that he and Butler would continue to be a great duo today. But they tried to suit Simmons and his unique needs. Alas.

    38. 100 duck sized horses, or one horsed sized duck…brilliant question…

deuce reacted like he had heard the question before…

mitch looks like he would benefit from the easing of any current cannabis laws, anywhere he is located at the moment…

    39. I love this Philly situation so much. I wonder what odds I can get on the Knicks finishing ahead of them.

Me reading the tea leaves here: Simmons’ agents have overpromised him, and he believes them. They’re telling him they can get him where he wants to go if he does x, y, and z.

    40. Everything I’ve read (although it’s been some time) is that the asking price for Simmons is exorbitant. Morey seems willing to slow play it for now.

    41. Simmons will probably end up playing on a worse team, the seventysixers will probably be worse, Morey and Doc’s reputations will take a hit, so it’s bad news all around for Philly fans.

    42. Hubert:
I think that *was* the case, Early Bird. Simmons is purposefully wrecking that plan.

Would not surprise me if that changed, but Philly is a good enough team that they can wait a little ways into the season to make a deal. I assume something will get done before the season starts, but not much before.

    43. Simmons will probably end up playing on a worse team, the seventysixers will probably be worse, Morey and Doc’s reputations will take a hit, so it’s bad news all around for Philly fans.

It’s also bad news for Sam Hinkie fans. I mean, this whole shit show proves that tanking doesn’t work, you know?

    44. JK47: What I do know is that your posts on this are utterly worthless, so maybe go post your bullshit in the other thread so we don’t have to read it. Sonny.

      lol stop the fight!

    45. Z-man:
Kyrie for Simmons makes a whole lotta sense for both teams…

Honestly was wondering this myself. I don’t think Philly or the Nets want to help the other team out. Nets especially as they can win without Kyrie, Philly will have a harder time without Simmons.

    46. Early Bird: Honestly was wondering this myself. I don’t think Philly or the Nets want to help the other team out. Nets especially as they can win without Kyrie, Philly will have a harder time without Simmons.

Yeah, it’s not ideal and unlikely to happen, but makes lots of sense in a vacuum.

    47. What % does Noel need to shoot from 3 for it to be a viable weapon? The rest of his offense is so bad that you give it a shot. He shot 34.7% on jumpshots last year.

I’m very skeptical but not outright dismissive like I am for Mitch who didn’t hit 50% of his FTs last year.

    49. #hi KYN, have you ever visited the Thessaly area?#

Hi geo! Not much of a traveller here.
I have crossed Thessaly area a few times but haven’t ever stayed/explored it.

    50. geo: 100 duck sized horses, or one horsed sized duck…brilliant question…

My kid loved the question… on our trip to school he was trying to check in which scenario he’d have more chances… “against the (horse sized) duck, we’ll probably be in his field so we’d be at a lake or something, there must be stones, i’d use the stones against him”… it’s a lot of gaming around this parts as you can probably tell! ;D

    51. First wacky prediction that will get buried with this thread shortly: Obi and McBride are going to be a big part of the Knicks success this year.
