    1. Oh man, Sports Illustrated is giving it a try in comedy “Opinion: LiAngelo Ball? The New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets And Indiana Pacers, Are Making A Mistake Not Bringing Him To Training Camp Which Starts Later This Month – Sports Illustrated” LOL

    2. Thank God whoever came up with that idea of trading for Justin Holiday doesn’t work for the FO lol. Why would we trade for an established wing when our wing position is set between RJ, Fournier, Burks, Grimes, and to a lesser extent- Bacon and Knox. I would like to see Knox get traded somewhere for a future pick or a combo forward. I also wouldn’t mind letting Bacon go and signing LiAngelo Ball as a break in case of emergency wing who can shoot. Strengthening the margins with players who don’t already have the status to play rotational minutes is key right now if the team is gonna make roster moves outside of maybe a Myles Turner move

    3. Mike Schmitz wrote an ESPN+ article (behind a paywall) that said Jalen & Keon Johnson were the long term steals of the draft and that the Hawks & Clippers had no business getting two prospects of that quality so late in the first round. Sigh.

    4. Hubert: Jalen & Keon Johnson were the long term steals of the draft

At this point, there’s nothing I’d love to see more than the Hawks & Clippers both giving each of those players the number 19.

Better yet: those teams could further troll disgruntled Knicks fans by taking the court in specially designed, ash-colored jerseys to be worn only when the NYK come to town, You know… to pay tribute to the great and glorious incineration in NY that helped gift those two future All Stars to ATL and LA.

Polia efcharisto for your recommendations in the previous thread! I’ve already begun tracking down those songs on Youtube. That is some goooooood shit! I don’t know what it is lately, but I just need laiko in my life right now. Thanks for your help in keeping me supplied.

    5. I guess it’s pretty much a lock that the Johnson brothers will go on to become All-Stars and future HOF’ers and we’ll be regretting “incinerating” the 19th pick for the rest of our lives. It’ll make the Knox and Frank picks seem trivial

(Then again, maybe they’ll both suck and former Philly Mike Schmitz will be proved dead wrong.)

    6. d-mar: Johnson brothers will go on to become All-Stars and future HOF’ers

Maybe they’ll become future All-Stars. Or maybe they won’t. But one outcome is undeniably certain: Knicks fans will always come up short against Hawks and Clippers fans when it comes to measuring Johnsons.

    7. Neither Johnson can shoot, that’s a red flag in today’s NBA.

Keon isn’t Kevin Knox, but 19yo high-upside player that’s shown little actual production? Sounds a lot like Kevin Knox, except Keon shoots more like Frank Ntilikina. Keon’s defense should be better than Knox.

The rest of Jalen’s game besides his shooting is fantastic by the numbers. He’s the player I’d regret missing.

    8. Jalen just shot 42% from 3 in summer league. small sample, I know but so was his time at Duke. Very premature to say he can’t shoot.

Comparing Keon to Knox is comical. Keon has explosiveness and defensive ability that Knox can only dream of. He’s also a very good rebounder and makes cuts well. He has a long way to go and he may never get there. I would have been angry if we took him at 9. But at 21? When he can be your 13th man for a few years while he matures? That’s exactly what you want in a draft slot like that.

    9. College ft% is one of the better indicators of NBA 3pt shooting. Jalen shot 63% from the ft line. FT% also stabilizes very quickly, unlike 3pt%. Jalen shooting well on 12 attempts in SL doesn’t exactly change my mind about him.

Knox averaged more rebounds per 40 than Keon did in college. Knox scored more points than Keon did per 40. Knox had a higher TS% than Keon did in college. Keon is all hype, no production. But at least Keon can jump high.

For being such an explosive athlete you’d expect Keon to score more than 11pts a game. He may turn out fine, but I have no issue passing on him.

    10. Sung to the tune of Carly Simon’s “Anticipation”:

We can never know about the days to come
But we think about them anyway
And I don’t know if they’re any good right now
But the Johnsons may get there some finer day.

      Incineration, incineration
      Is making me hate
      Is keeping me hating

    11. Johnson took 38 free throws in college.

He was a 63% FT shooter and 44% 3P shooter at Duke. He was an 82% FT and 42% 3P shooter in summer league.

We’re talking under 100 total shots.

I’m not saying the guy is a good shooter, I’m just saying it’s not fair to label him a bad shooter.

    12. me – reading the last few threads – and luvin’ it :)

i gotta be honest, i’m still thinking about you not only listening to, but, buying a bunch of albums in a language you don’t even understand…

whatever responsibilities you may be somewhat shirking in order to write here more – please continue to do so…

    13. Statistically, 3s & FTs aren’t the same and we shouldn’t treat them as the same.

Across SL & college Jalen shot 67% on 49 FTs. In that same sample including SL & college Jalen took a combined 30 3PA.

Although both numbers are small, FTs are much more meaningful in small samples than 3PAs. FTs in small sample sizes are more informative than 3p% even in large samples.

Moreover, the fact Jalen took so few 3PA indicates Jalen is a bad shooter, it’s another stat that’s predictive of 3pt shooting prowess.

We can infer meaningful data from Jalen’s FT%, that he’s a bad shooter. We can infer next to nothing from Jalen’s 3p%.

When looking at models that predict NBA 3p% using 3PA/40, 3p% and FT%, Jalen projects as a bad shooter.

    14. No need to go back and forth then. I’m going to stick with 49 free throws being too small a sample to conclude that someone is a bad shooter.

    15. @cdp

    16. YOU GUYS!!!!!

      @TheSteinLine
The Mavericks have emerged as the likely next destination for former Knicks guard Frank Ntilikina, league sources say.

Best Strat news day in… how long?

    17. It honestly makes all the sense in the world for them to sign the only guy in the league who can shut Luka down.

      Smart.

    18. I’ll have plenty more to say about this tomorrow.

I’ve been on the Mavs blogs trying to convince those guys that Frank was a perfect fit and a riskless move for them.

They have enough scoring. They could use a better 3rd option, but they have enough. They needed players like Bullock (starter) and Frank (off the bench) to take on the tougher defensive assignments so they can hide Doncic easier and allow him to focus on scoring and making plays. Bullock will space the floor nicely and give them that defense as a starter. Frank has the potential to grow into that role off the bench and also give them some secondary playmaking. And they have the upside in case he eventually blossoms further than Bullock over time, If not, there’s little downside. I doubt the deal is for much. Plus Frank has great chemistry with KP. I’d be willing to guess that KP and Bullock both pushed for him. This is a win win for everyone and I’m happy for Frank he’ll get more time in the NBA to try to put it all together.

I love this Knick team, but that Mavs team is slowly becoming the team I was hoping for in NY.

It looks like like I’ll be taking a booster and masking up to go to the Garden this year.

    19. In the end Frank did the right thing rejecting offers from Europe and waiting for an NBA slot.

He ended up in the best situation for him, Luka always has the ball in his hands and Brunson can play PG for the second unit so he just need to hit the many open threes he will get and be a defensive specialist, the perfect spot for his skill set.

From lottery pick to a minimum contract in four years, this is his last chance, let’s hope Kidd will not hinder it.

I wont see him play against Milano (at least for now) but I’m happy that he can keep his dream alive.

      Good luck French Prince

    20. Love the Mavs conducting a thought experiment of “What if the Knicks roster of 2018 tanked enough to draft Luka?”

    21. The Mavs have 14 guaranteed contracts plus Moses Brown, something to keep in mind before you dedicate 5,000 words to Frank Ntilikina’s fit with their pending dynasty.

    22. thenoblefacehumper:

Yeah, but they’re trying to put together a Goran Dragic trade that will probably at least be a 2-for-1, which would create a roster spot. It’s just a question of whether they can pull that off before training camp ends.

    23. Reading Mavs’ blogs, it seems their fans would rather waive Trey Burke than give up Moses Brown.

    24. The Knicks waived Ntilikina, but they have extra roster spots up through most of training camp. Can they sign him and trade him to the Mavs? If so, then the Mavs might be able to use their existing trade exception for acquiring Frank’s salary.

    25. The Knicks didn’t waive Ntilikina, his contract expired and according to Spotrac they renounced his cap hold.
I think that if they sign him now he’s subject to the usual “december rule” for trade purposes, but I may be wrong.
