    1. swiftandabundant:
This is going to be an “Innervisions” kind of thread, isn’t it?

We could also talk about Shang-Chi, or the Emmys, or my very complicated thoughts on the Giants, whom I want to finally enjoy watching, even as I kind of hope they have an awful season that leads to a long-overdue front office housecleaning.

    2. Or the Mets Fatal Attraction like death ( JK47 called it about a month ago, yet Los Metsies arose from the bathtub only to sink again). or ;
Blonde on Blonde or Blood on the Tracks? or
Will the Jets and Giants combine to win 12 games this year?

    3. I watched echo in the canyon (about LA music 65-67) and the drummer doc last night. Major takeaway, I totally want to hang out with the drummer for Iron Maiden who must have been the inspiration for a character in Soinal Tap. Also, LA in the Sixties was something else.

Enjoyed them but both are riding the B+ wave for me. I may have been too tired by the time the drumming one started to fully appreciate it.

    4. I enjoyed the drummer documentary (Count Me In), but it left me wanted more, and not in a good way. They spent a little bit of time on a lot of drummers, and not enough time on any of them. It was kinda like one of those trips to Europe where people hit 10 cities in 14 days and end up not really getting to know any of the places they visited.

    5. I thought Echo In The Canyon was dreadful. Totally missed the mark and should have been a million times more interesting. Some of my friends were in the backing band and they are lovely and talented people but the live performances seemed superfluous. I still don’t know what Beck and Jakob Dylan have to do with the Laurel Canyon scene.

    6. JK47 – didn’t you watch the documentary? They watched Model Shop!

I don’t know, I thought Dylan did a fine job interviewing and he’s a good musician with a lot of connections to lots of the people involved in that scene. Or can trade on his Dads name at least.

The parts where Beck and Dylan and Regina Spektor and Cat Power (?) talk about ithe era were quite cringeworthy though. As I said, it was just ok for me.

It does kind of amaze me that something like The Bells of Rhymney, which I had never heard of, was such a big hit. The Mamas and the Papas, sure, that makes sense,!but a lot of that music that was so huge leaves me a little dry, I guess I need to listen to it more.

    7. Missed a few days and music talk became hipster!!!
Sorry to spoil the soul fun but i really find Talking Book overrated!
“I Believe” is a killer and I could put “Superstition” on a car cd mix but i find the rest catchy but not that good.
      Innervisions is much better.
      :-)

      Hang on Frank!
NBA dream is not over yet !
      Keep “snoozing”!
      ;-p

    8. I was up early enough here that the Giants were still playing, and there was enough time that they could catch up, so I started watching. Giants down 20 to 7, but they have the Broncos facing second and eight near their own five yard line. So what happens? the Giants rough the passer on third down for no reason and give the Broncos fifteen yards and then the Broncos make a run that goes over seventy yards for a touchdown. I turned it off. It’s just amazing how bad the Giants can be, even when you watch for just five minutes.

    9. One of my closest friends is up for an Emmy tonight but he’s probably going to lose to Bo Burnham. So fuck that guy.

    10. Blood on the Tracks!

(My Dylan phase ended several decades ago, but, my god, Blood on the Tracks remains the ‘96 Bulls of singer-songwriter albums.)

(Which, I suppose, makes Talking Book the ‘72 Lakers, and Court and Spark the ‘15 Warriors, and Astral Weeks the ‘86 Celtics, and The Wild, The Innocent the ‘87 Lakers, and Madman Across the Water the ‘83 Sixers, and Kind of Blue (I know, he didn’t technically “sing”, but he did something even better) the ‘73 New York Knicks)
