    1. Good morning.
I’m curious why the biggest Knicks news has been glossed over. The Knicks extended Julius Randle at a team friendly price 4 yrs/$117M. It’s a lot of money, sure, but for an all-nba rising star? This move makes acquiring a free agent or two when we’re ready.
But to me it was an affirmation of the 180 degree turn that Leon Rose and Tom Thibodeau brought to the team. Listening to Julius talk about why he signed at a discount brings tears to my eyes. “I just truly enjoy being a Knick” says it all. When have players WANTED to be a Knick?
Oh, and my new villain is Reggie Bullock who said ‘No Brainer’ Says Bullock About Mavs Move From Knicks. The one trait I hate in players (hence my hatred from Durant) is ring-chasing. I want ring magnets, like Randle; guys who want to elevate a team rather than ride coattails to a championship.

    2. GoNY, I think it’s because we talked at length about the contract extension when the news was initially announced a few weeks ago. But, yes, it was very gratifying to hear the kinds of things Randle said at the presser.

    3. I love the quote by Julius where he says that those who think last year was a fluke don’t know shit about him. Dude works his ass off and has a massive chip on his shoulder. I LOVE IT.

Sorry, but I cannot hate on Reggie Bullock after being such a big part of last year’s team. I’m glad we got Fournier and it made sense to bring Burks back over Bullock to help with bench scoring. But Reggie was so great last year. Hit open 3’s and played his ass off on defense every night. I do not hate him for going to Dallas especially since we weren’t going to bring him back. And I think what he said just sounds like standard, I’m a new free agent on a team and I’m excited to be here stuff. Plus the stuff he has gone through in his life with his sister being murdered and what he has done to be vocal for trans people’s rights. He’s a really stand up dude.

Reggie Bullock is a OAKAAK status for me.

    4. Yeah, Bullock’s quotes were completely benign, generic stuff any free agent says when they come to a new place. No bad talk about the Knicks, just excitement to be Luca’s safety valve. And the Knicks clearly chose Burks over him. I have no beef with Mr. Bul-lock and his impressive hair.

    5. I think we are probably going to miss Bullock more than we care to admit right now. Sure, we are going to improve on offense with the addition of Fournier/Walker, but we are going to lose something defensively without Bullock and even with Kemba relative to Payton.

Bullock was the perfect signing for Dallas. They have almost enough scoring with Doncic and KP. They could use an upgrade at 3rd option, but Bullock will help lock down the perimeter and give Doncic spacing. Dorian Finny Smith is also improving. IMO, they are one player away from contention. If they can get Dragic in a trade or buyout that might be enough to compete with anyone other than healthy Brooklyn.

(To me Hardaway is still a 6th man even though they are paying him like a legitimate high level starter)

    6. Alan:
I have no beef with Mr. Bul-lock and his impressive hair.

You know what’s sad? How Bullock can shoot with that hair but former #6(good luck Phoenix, even though he’s your 3rd PG now) can’t shoot with or without an extravagant hairstyle. Remember when he had hair similar to Bullock’s?

    7. Also..now that Reggie’s a Mav..can we shout “BOLLOCKS!” everytime we leave him open and he hits a 3 against us?

    8. i like(d) reggie a lot…i’ll be honest though – i also remember a few times when he made some real blunders at the end of games…

    9. i think elf will do much better at phoenix when he gets a chance to get on the court (cp3 and his health should see to that)…

he looked completely mentally/emotionally shut down from about january on…

    10. Reggie took an extra $5M guaranteed over Burks in the final year. Idk, if that was the difference but $5M is $5M.

    11. My one concern about Randle is the trade kicker may make it difficult to move him if he regresses. And it may be too easy for him to get to the playoffs & all-star game for him to lose the likely bonuses while still in NY.

Overall, can’t complain about a great deal though.

    12. DW, has enough kids to fill a basketball team, and not that 5 starters shit, he can fill the full roster plus 2-ways, exhibit 10s, and even a dead beat Joakim Noah kid he still pays for.

He has draft and stash kids in Europe & half ag-league team.

    13. i get confused with just 3 to track (i’m okayish on the first two’s birthday most days, the youngest has a birthday some time in november – that’s as close as i can get at the moment though)…

my understanding is there’s some in their 30’s (?), some in their teens, and some just starting out…i love shopping (even for groceries, actually, especially groceries), got to imagine them trips to costco or sam’s club are like a serious physical buying in bulk workout…

trying to imagine car rides – just having two boys in the vehicle drives me nuts at times…i can also imagine a whole lot of love in that house, every weekend must be like a house party…

heck, i’m awfully proud of my comic book collection – 10 plus kids, i’m flossing em big time!!!

      go donnie :)

    14. In yet another example of why you should always believe the world wide interweb, it says Donnie Walsh has both two children and five children. It also describes him as a basketball and a football coach. Pretty sure it’s talking about the same guy though.

    15. Alan: Yeah, Bullock’s quotes were completely benign, generic stuff any free agent says when they come to a new place. No bad talk about the Knicks, just excitement to be Luca’s safety valve.

He said (and I’m paraphrasing) that he chose the Mavs over the Knicks because they are closer to a championship.

    16. GoNyGoNYGo: He said (and I’m paraphrasing) that he chose the Mavs over the Knicks because they are closer to a championship.

      He’s right about that.

Both teams may be one player away from contention, but the Mavericks are missing a reliable 3rd option that can defend and the Knicks are missing a reliable 1st option that can defend. They are better than us now and are missing an easier piece to get. Then again, we have way more assets to get it done than they do. I’d like to see Dragic get bought out and go to Dallas, but Masai is not the kind of guy that will buy someone out so he can play where he wants to play and where it makes more sense. He’s going to hold out as long as possible for a deal that helps him. I suspect Dragic and the Mavs are out of luck.

    17. I always thought Bullock was a good smart defender, but not a great defender. His D reminds me of Lance Thomas. Always looks like he’s doing more than he actually is. I believe RJ can pick up the tough assignments and make wide open layups without traveling like an 8 year old.

It’s is hilarious how Dallas is trying to build a contender around Doncic with ex-Knicks. Starting with KP.

    18. unless kp figures some things out on defense (somehow condition himself to improve on his lateral movement), or, the mavs figure out a way to keep him close by the rim guarding it – kp is gonna have a hard time staying on the court long enough during the playoffs to actually be a viable second scoring option…

i’ve never thought of reggie as any kind of consistent viable scoring option…we’ll see though with luka feeding him the ball…

i’m thinking RJ’s our second option, with fournier/kemba/rose as our 3rd option…the mavs just happen to have one of the most impactful players in the league…i think our roster is better overall…

    19. I think Dallas is hoping Reggie will be what they wanted Jason Richardson to be: a better defender than Seth Curry on the wing, but someone who can still hit open 3’s on Luca kickouts. If they’re expecting him to create or do anything other than those two things, they’re asking too much of our former guy.

    20. Javier Baez is a bum. He’s the Jeff Francouer of shortstops. That’s not a compliment. He strikes out ten times for every time he walks and he swings at some of the worst pitches I have ever seen a major leaguer hack at.

Lindor is a talented player but he’s a crybaby asshole with a fake smile.

    21. who’s managing the mets now, and how are they doing?

is it more: poor roster choices, bad managing – or, shit just ain’t working out right now (ask the padres about that)?

    22. more so than anything else baseball related – it is such a marvel of achievement what the oakland athletics and tampa bay rays have been able to achieve over like the last couple decades…

i generally like the players on the yankees squad…always funny to see some ball players have to get cleaned up to wear the pinstripes…

i am soooooo conflicted on giancarlo stanton, jacoby ellsbury is still fresh in my mind, so that doesn’t help…it’s good to see him playing the field…i really like how voit let it be known that he felt like he should stay in the lineup…he was right…

still, taking a risk losing stanton’s bat, but – oh well…

i love how boone has been doing such a great job closing by committee…

    23. There were some warning signs with Francisco Lindor early on— he had the early season dust-up with Jeff McNeil in the dugout during a game, and has been crying about getting booed since early in the season. Being part of the thumbs down incident solidifies to me that he’s an immature jerk.

There are a few likable players on the team but he’s not one of them.

    24. Deeefense:

GoNyGoNYGo: He said (and I’m paraphrasing) that he chose the Mavs over the Knicks because they are closer to a championship.

      He’s right about that.

Right or wrong isn’t what matters. The way I feel about him does not change:

GoNyGoNYGo: The one trait I hate in players (hence my hatred from Durant) is ring-chasing. I want ring magnets, like Randle; guys who want to elevate a team rather than ride coattails to a championship.

    25. geo: who’s managing the mets now, and how are they doing?

      Luis Rojas.
And this is a major blemish. I would not allow that if I was the manager and him not stopping it is a huge problem.

    26. ***trying to imagine car rides – just having two boys in the vehicle drives me nuts at times…***

Two boys?! I would never do that. (I might be foolish, but I’m not crazy)

(And Early Bird that’s a funny post, and more true (Noah!) than I should publicly admit:)
