    1. Knew Your Nicks
      August…19th!
      Oh! com on!

      Woj Bomb!

Leon Rose has traded today for a future day in August.

The day is protected against any temperature between 65 and 95 degrees. If not conveyed within the next 4 years, it converts to two days in the middle of February.

    2. ***it converts to two days in the middle of February***

That’s actually a leap year so we have a better chance of getting a good day that year than most years.

    3. I understand the medical diagnosis on Kemba is bad, but the data we have is not so discouraging. Kemba played 1300 min last year and averaged over 30min a game. Moreover, he missed the first 11 games recovering from the medical surgery in question and not from lingering knee issues post-surgery.

Kemba may need some coddling, but I think people are jumping to conclusions. Fwiw, Elfrid Payton played a tick over 100 more minutes than Kemba did last season.

Kemba also seemingly improved as the year went on, his post-AS TS% was 58%. His shots within 5ft of the basket increased from 18.6% of his attempts to nearly 23% of his attempts.

By LEBRON, replacing Elfrid with Kemba should result in 4 more wins next season. By OBPM, the replacement is somewhere between adding an all-star and an all-nba player to the roster.

We can speculate on Kemba’s injury or we can look at the data, and the data isn’t so damning.

    4. You folks are aware that there are three other Thursdays in this August, no? Not sure we really need this one or even have room on our calendar for one more.

    5. What i heard is that Leon just wants 30-day months, so whenever we have more days on a given month, he’ll trade it away for a future day. We might need it when we’ll try to have the best month of our lives, and as the future day is all potential, it has a lot more value. #smartmanagement

    6. As Mitch’s number 1 fan here at KB i approve the Heavy.com link on the “Knicks Morning News” list. Go check it out, to know what “lofty goal” is he talking about. ;)

    7. 2023 is the Double Summer, so 62 August days instead of 31 gives us more possible nice days to choose from.

    8. People are claiming Leon “incinerated” today, but they are ignoring the fact that if you don’t do controlled burns of a day here and there you are increasing the wildfire risk and potentially will be burning weeks or months including precious weekend days… global warming is real my dudes

    9. (Parallel Universe Experiment)

      Imagine us getting:
      McBride at #…19!
      Grimes at #21
      Rokus Jokus at #32
      and Jericho RimKisser at #58

      How would you react?

    10. BJ:
People are claiming Leon “incinerated” today, but they are ignoring the fact that if you don’t do controlled burns of a day here and there you are increasing the wildfire risk and potentially will be burning weeks or months including precious weekend days… global warming is real my dudes

Unless you rake the forest floors, that is.

    11. Look, the day is protected between 65 to 95 degrees, but they haven’t reported whether that is Fahrenheit or Celsius. Also given global warming even if it’s Fahrenheit it is most likely the August day will convey over the next five years. Finally February days are underrated as a fall back option, you tend to spend less and looking back we have had some really fun days in February, more fun even than a lot of our August days.

    12. *And let’s also Not FORGET that almost NO-ONE expected us to pick 4 players this season.
      Not even Draft Beer!

    13. what you front office haters don’t seem to understand is that Leon Rose knows everything that is happening today and simply decided that none of it is worth doing.

    14. Hey Noble, and the rest of the guys that love cap calculations, if you go the Spotrac Knicks page and use their numbers, you’ll see that we are at 120,607,921 in total cap (discounting Bacon, because he’s just a training camp guy). That’s 8,193,721 above the cap.
Now if you go sum the difference between DRose’s cap hold and contract with Taj’s number (the room doesn’t count against the cap), you’ll have 8,193,800.
Wow, that’s some precise job by Leon and his team right there. Very happy to have such a professional team running the Knicks, for a change. :)

    15. And, by the way, Grimes is signed at the 120% rookie value. To trust Berman is a waste of time.

    16. Hubert:
what you front office haters don’t seem to understand is that Leon Rose knows everything that is happening today and simply decided that none of it is worth doing.

Exactly! This is the entire reason Leon hangs out with World Wide Wes! Even us normies at home on eventbrite can see the few things happening today will be problematic and not a great fit, a guy with Wes’s connections would know that as well as what the rest of the league wants to do from today all the way into apple picking season.

    17. Such good content I am not going to even bother importing my comment lost to yesterday’s thread.

“Yesterday’s thread” – Feels so strange to say that. Will we never have a 700 comment thread again? Will I miss it?

To summarize, I am worried that our defense will be average next year and our offense won’t improve much.

    18. Who wouldn’t trade a Thursday for a Friday or for 2 Mondays 5 years later? That’s A no-brainer!

    19. i think that the longer threads get ..people get angrier…. we need more cowbell.. er threads…

Kemba also seemingly improved as the year went on, his post-AS TS% was 58%. His shots within 5ft of the basket increased from 18.6% of his attempts to nearly 23% of his attempts.

not to be all pessimistic and all that… but kemba also couldn’t last the season as he missed more than half the games in the last month and basically disintegrated in the playoffs and that was the last we saw of him….

i did do a dive into the data.. and it doesn’t actually look all that good… i’m not going to repeat it but i think assuming charlotte kemba is a tall order…. that’s not to say kemba can’t be as productive or just productive… but it’s going to look a lot different…. and if he can’t adust then it starts looking a lot like melo… if he can … it’s more like derrick rose…. but the guy who’s attacking the basket at will… that guy is gone… and it’s backed by all the same data you’re looking at….

    20. djphan you missed a golden opportunity to discuss your board of the 70 best things to do today.

    21. that’s going to have to come after the ‘100 ways this knicks season will implode’.. a pessimists work is never done….

    22. Hey folks. Been a busy month. Missed chopping it up w/y’all. Happy belated born day Jowles.

We’re starting our fall season here really soon and I’ve been crazy busy. Navigating new covid protocols for team transportation has been a real b!tch. Our dean can’t seem to stay in his office longer than 2 weeks at a time, which lends to a larger problem: Athletics is moving forward while admin and district office ops are slowed/unstable due to covid protocols+many personnel still working remotely; although the district wants folks back on campus, many are saying “nope” due to the Delta variant.
Our AD has already warned coaches to be ready this season for literally anything, because there’s an awful lot that can/will happen that we won’t have any control over.

In short – I’d trade today for 2 days in November…

    23. yeah, the Delta Variant angle was some low hanging fruit I left dangling for someone to take. This August is definitely the Jalen Johnson of Augusts.

    24. cybersoze:
As Mitch’s number 1 fan here at KB i approve the Heavy.com link on the “Knicks Morning News” list. Go check it out, to know what “lofty goal” is he talking about. ;)

It’s a tie for being the #1 Mitch fan. I’ve been on board since the day he was drafted. I think Mitch will take the big leap this year like Randle did last year. He’s poised to dominate. Here’s a tweet from a few weeks ago:
      Mitch at 275

    25. Mfers disparaging August 19th like it’s not part of my birthday fortnight

Edit: reading thread backwards, thanks diggy

    26. Please keep in mind that although Leon did trade August 19th, he’s getting value back, even if it’s the same or slightly lower value. Mills would’ve traded it for February 30th. LOLOL

    27. GoNyGoNYGo: It’s a tie for being the #1 Mitch fan.I’ve been on board since the day he was drafted.I think Mitch will take the big leap this year like Randle did last year. He’s poised to dominate. Here’s a tweet from a few weeks ago:

Hey GoNY, i’m like Steph, if you want to be number 1 (KD), i can be number 2 for a while. :P
The tweet from the article is dope, don’t you think?
      https://twitter.com/23savage____/status/1428139297459343361

    28. Between July & August, we already have two back-to-back 31 day months. We really can’t fit that many days in anyways.

    29. I know that’s hard to be believed right now but I’m actually born on 19th !!!! (Oct)
Number 19 has always been a special number to me (just like all the birthday numbers to everyone i suppose) and i really don’t know if I’ll be able to celebrate my birthday the same way again after this draft!!!

    30. Hey can MSG savvy folks answer a question?

Got an offer for seats in section 216 that has tvs in front of them. I’m thinking this would make them less valuable than ones that I have in Section 227. Am I wrong?

    31. And, by the way, Grimes is signed at the 120% rookie value. To trust Berman is a waste of time.

Thanks! It’s annoying that I’m mad at myself for trusting one of the most prominent Knicks beat writers on a salary cap matter, but that’s par for the course.

Everyone is firing on all cylinders today. We’re in mid-offseason form.

    32. I know that’s hard to be believed right now but I’m actually born on 19th !!!! (Oct)

Oct 19 is my birthday, too! It’s 19 all up in this mug!

    33. Mike, I would try to get an answer to your question, but I’m still bitter that only you and Brian have the power to embed photos and gifs, when that’s often the majority of what I want to do here, as it’s the best way I know how to elevate the discourse.

    34. #Oct 19 is my birthday, too! It’s 19 all up in this mug!#

      Holly Molly!
      Me, You and Kuzminskas!
      The October19thKnicksTriumvirat!

    35. @Mike: I’ve never been to MSG, but your seats look way better than the other ones. To watch basketball from behind the backboard is way worst.

    36. Oct 19 is my birthday, too! It’s 19 all up in this mug!

I gotta start a spreadsheet to not forget anyone! ;P

    37. You’re right, Alan, it doesn’t work. I think the system has the images on a “blacklist”, so if there’s an image tag on the comment, the tag is deleted.

    38. This thread started as a joke and has turned completely Psychedelic!
I can clearly visualize the Beatles experimental Revolution 9
      (Not 19!!! Just 9!)

    39. There are a few things I may fix, and I’ll try to add that to the list.

As for the seats, I’m also thinking those tvs are there because you’re behind one net and won’t see anything on the other side. But I don’t think that’s good, because you’re unlikely to be looking up when it comes back to your side. Or at best it’s an odd experience.

    40. Please please please don’t enable images, the entire social space has too many of them already (sorry Alan). This place is special in part because it’s text only.

    41. With Hubert at the height of his value after that joke, maybe we should look into trading him for some younger posters and/or draft picks? (I think he would play well in Miami.)

    42. With Hubert at the height of his value after that joke, maybe we should look into trading him for some younger posters and/or draft picks? (I think he would play well in Miami.)

hubie is most certainly en fuego, but – that’s some funny stuff right there…

    43. ess-dog: With Hubert at the height of his value after that joke, maybe we should look into trading him for some younger posters and/or draft picks? (I think he would play well in Miami.)

Be aware that if you do that, some of our best posters can get upset and demand a trade.

    44. Please please please don’t enable images, the entire social space has too many of them already (sorry Alan). This place is special in part because it’s text only.

now that would be an interesting poll to see…as much as i enjoy gifs, very good point regarding keeping the site old school…yeah, 500 post thread, plus images, could be a little daunting to scroll through…

    45. I’ve sat at The Garden baseline seats. I think behind the basket can actually be a pretty dope experience as long as you aren’t RIGHT behind the basket and are like a few rows up, not directly on the floor.

Yeah, you have to kind of strain a bit to see the action on the other side but when the action is on your side you REALLY get to see how physical and athletic the dudes are. It really makes you appreciate it. Baseline behind the players is the best though.

    46. Guys, guys, I’m not saying everyone should be posting pics and gifs here. I’m just saying that I should be. And that it is a power I would use very, very wisely. And mostly sparingly.

      This seems fair, no?

    47. oh no, we’re now breaking the 4th wall of reality – honesty…

we truly are becoming an increasingly famile locale, and, I like it :)

    48. 4/97 million for Rozier?! 4/77 for Smart?! Say what you want about whether we should’ve resigned the players we brought back, but at least we have them for reasonable contracts.

Also the 2022 free agent market looks so bare right now. If you want a player next summer, it’ll have to be through draft and/or trade.

    49. Mike Kurylo: There are a few things I may fix, and I’ll try to add that to the list.

IMO, the ability to post images would do a lot of good for the site. Geo, I can’t understand your hatred of images. A picture is worth a thousand words!

It seems I can quote people and post links again. That’s a start!
Now, about the site DB going down, what will it take to keep it alive?

    50. Geo, I can’t understand your hatred of images. A picture is worth a thousand words!

no doubt GoNY, for a low key snarky type troller like me, it’d be like a holiday almost every day…although – things can get heated on occasion here – so, yeah, i don’t know, it could a little ugly when things get confrontational…

    51. Evan Fournier is an absolute bargain compared to what Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier are getting

    52. DRed: s

That Rozier contract reeks of desperation and I don’t know from what. That’s a contract that the Clippers and Lakers would give out, not a 37-win team.

But then I remember that this is the team that gave him a shitton of money to leave BOS in the first place, so it would make sense that they would double down on their infatuation with his perfectly-average play. An average player on a max contract is, uh, not good.

    53. Missed this earlier in the day: Dwayne Bacon’s contract is non-guaranteed, and Aamir Simms’ is an Exhibit 10. So likely just training camp bodies, barring something odd.

    54. The Rozier contract is definitely an overpay, but there tends to be a pretty consistent trade market for good-albeit-overpaid youngish players. There’s only so much difference-making talent in the league and if a contender can cobble together the salaries to match, the Hornets can likely find a taker if they so choose.

We better hope it’s not so bad anyway, since we’ve bizarrely put ourselves in a position where it’s important to us that the Hornets make the playoffs within the next few years.

    55. Grimes not getting 120% seemed so odd, so it’s nice to know that that wasn’t true.

    56. i don’t think some teams this off-season were spending with an eye towards contending…there’s a lot of value in simply making the playoffs in terms of tv, merch and whatnot…

seems a lot of teams are spending heavy on not really championship caliber rosters…imagine being in the wiz or wolves situation…we’re like bottom five in payroll i believe, hornets are down at the bottom with us…

    57. heard a bit of that kd and draymond talk…too funny listening to them sit there and talk about kerr and meyer screwing things up like it was some 3rd person event or something…like they themselves weren’t the cause of it all…

    58. geo:
heard a bit of that kd and draymondtalk…too funny listening to them sit there and talk about kerr and meyer screwing things up like it was some 3rd person event or something…like they themselves weren’t the cause of it all…

The thing I found amazing about that conversation was that were acting like they were trying to save a marriage with young kids involved etc..

Once you’ve been blessed with the required talent, have already put in all the hard work, and find yourself in the best circumstances imaginable for an athlete, how hard can it be to show up, make millions, win championships, and get along with a few other athletes without screwing it all up?

    59. We better hope it’s not so bad anyway, since we’ve bizarrely put ourselves in a position where it’s important to us that the Hornets make the playoffs within the next few years.

The good news is that they probably would have made the playoffs last year if it weren’t for all the injuries, Ball should improve next year and they drafted a couple of guys in the 1st round.

The bad news is that Haywards gets hurt a lot and may again, they lost Devonte Graham who was a starter and Code Zeller who was pretty good for them. Also, other teams that missed the playoffs last year have improved.

    60. iserp: Well, a max contract would like 50% more than he got. Not saying that he is worth his contract, but salaries have risen quite a bit.

Charlotte offered the max extension that they were allowed to offer, so i think that’s what Jowles was talking about. Probably the CBA saved them from themselves. If a guy is slightly overpayed, you shouldn’t pay him even more, and that’s exactly what they’ve done.
And, btw, the max for a player with 6 years experience is 4/120M, so he’ll be getting around 80% of that.

    61. Guys, i’m a little worried about tomorrow’s thread… i think Hubert was great today, as he reached All-Blog status, but i think he might regress to the mean. Then Djphan is a huge injury risk away from being unavailable, and that would force Z-Man and Strat to a higher usage and that won’t end well.
What keeps me hopeful is the fact that we have a deep roster, with Alan, Brian, Geo, Diggy, Jowles, Noble, GoNY, KFNINJ, Max, Bird, Owen, Dan, JK, Farfa, Bruno, and the rest of the regular posters (sorry it’s too much names to search right now).
WE HAVE A BIG ## (insert here the number of the regular posters) !!! LOLOL

    62. ***That Rozier contract reeks of desperation and I don’t know from what.***

Desperation from wanting to convey 2 second round picks instead?

    63. This team is deep.

      Mitch, Noel, Taj, Sims
      Kemba, Rose, McBride
      Barrett, IQ, Grimes, Vildoza?
      Fournier, Burks, Knox
      Randle, Obi

I can see Grimes surpassing IQ as the season progresses. McBride should see a decent amount of action due to health reasons at point guard. Should we be looking to package IQ and Mitch for Myles Turner or another upgrade of some sort?

    64. geo: i don’t think some teams this off-season were spending with an eye towards contending…there’s a lot of value in simply making the playoffs in terms of tv, merch and whatnot…

      A very astute statement.

I used to explain to people that complained about the Yankees buying championships is that it made brilliant financial sense. If there are 50,000 fans buying (on average) a $100 playoff ticket that’s $5M in revenue per game not counting concessions, TV, memorabilia, etc. PER GAME.

The same logic goes for hoops. How much money did Dolan fail to make with the Knicks not making the playoffs? So it should be a major business objective to NOT SUCK.

    65. It’s funny that for all of the avoiding the number 19 recently, no one has taken to calling this the Covid-Incinerated Pick pandemic.

    66. Z:
It’s funny that for all of the avoiding the number 19 recently, no one has taken to calling this the Covid-Incinerated Pick pandemic.

      Best one yet!

    67. Hubert: Woj Bomb!

Leon Rose has traded today for a future day in August.

The day is protected against any temperature between 65 and 95 degrees. If not conveyed within the next 4 years, it converts to two days in the middle of February.

      lol very good!

    68. In a later trade, Rose was able to pick up Nov. 12, which was obviously the day he wanted all along.

After a quick glance at the Farmer’s Almanac, many Knicks fans are now insisting that Nov. 12 will be warmer than most of the days in August.

    69. What y’all are missing is that Leon plans to select a day from the Middle East, where we would trade a week of August for 1 day in February every year.

    70. djphan: there’s really only one real scrooge here and i think we all know who that is.. and there’s no way i’m like that guy in anything….

hmmm…I was busy transporting my kid to college so while catching up this AM I found this gratuitous swipe…since this suggests that you asked for my thoughts, I’ll gladly oblige…

djphan: i rarely ever try to predict the future…

That’s weird…I thought draft boards and statements like “canary in the mine” are all about predicting the future. For someone who rarely ever tries to predict the future, you have an awful lot to say about it!

djphan: there’s lots of unknowns and people overestimate what they know all the time and underestimate what they need to know in order to get a small handle on future outcomes… i know cause i do that some of that kind of analysis for my work…

I trust that you are far better at the analysis you do for your work than you are at basketball analysis. Definitely should keep your draft takes off your resume.

djphan: i probably put more effort into backing everything i say than anyone here… you may disagree considering how little you pay attention but there’s absolutely nothing purely emotional or reactionary to anything i do here…

When you find yourself mansplaining to the likes of iserp, when djphanophiles start throwing yellow flags at your condescending tone, when your alarmist rhetoric generates a whole genre of KB humor, when you have to tell folks that you’re “not that guy” maybe it’s time to revisit the emotional or reactionary stuff…. I’ll just quote. R.W. Emerson: “The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons.”

    71. Knick fan not in NJ:
Z-man and DJ, please, let’s go back to the humor.

More than happy to KFNINJ and others, but there’s a limit. I wasn’t even posting yesterday and got alluded to in a nasty way.

    72. Knick fan not in NJ: Z-man and DJ, please, let’s go back to the humor.

I’ve been called lots of things, but humorless is beyond the pale…curse you cyber!

    74. Trade Nineteen
      -Squealy Fan

Way back when the Knicks were drafting
      Sometime in summer of ‘21
      Two sweet first rounders
      And juicy seconds
      Who ever thought that Rose
      Would ever go

      And Trade nineteen?
No we can’t draft a Johnson
No we can’t pick at all
      Sure thing one of them’s
      Going to the Hall…

      Trade nineteen
      That’s freakin’ rankling
That Leon Rose is such a hack
      Hard times befallen
      us Knickerbloggers
      One more front office
has stabbed us in the back…

      Trade nineteen
      The first is too protected
If it’s a first at all
      And burned twenty one
      Just to slide on down

      Christ!

      Sure looked bad
      Hmm hmm hmm
But Summer League is over now

      That Quinten Grimes
      Juko and Deuce McBride
Made our draft a wonderful thing
      (and Jericho Sims)

      That Quinten Grimes
      Juko and Deuce McBride
Made our draft a wonderful thing

      But it’s incinerated
      We whiffed on Lonzo Ball
      The first is too protected
      If it’s a first at all….
