Iman Shumpert Mic’d Up In Practice

If you’re looking for a new favorite Knick, watch this video. Iman Shumpert playing with the B team seems to be a vocal leader. He congratulates his teammates on playing good defensive, tells Jerome Jordan to make his defensive call louder so everyone can hear it, and warns his scrimmage adversary Amar’e Stoudemire that there “ain’t no layups today.” The best scene is at around 1:30, where Shumpert tells Douglas that he didn’t foul him.

Shump-Shump ain’t touch you… I looked at Shump arm. Shump didn’t touch you.

Check out this latest tweet from Fields and click on the pic, hilarious:

Had team stations two days ago. Blue won, so our leader, STAT, had personalized medallions made for the winning team. http://twitpic.com/7u5jbq

Lolz! We can get Andy back! He was waived, right?

They changed the rules on players returning to teams that traded them (because, of course, that was some major injustice that needed to be addressed for some reason). I am not positive exactly on what the new rules are, but I am pretty sure that they can’t re-sign him for the rest of this season.

  3. Landry Fields (narrating): Sometimes it makes me sad, though… Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren’t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they’re gone. I guess I just miss my friend.

  4. Well if there is a silver lining for whiffing on Reggie Williams, he tore his knee and is out 6-8 weeks.

  5. Josh Harrelson looks pretty darn undersized.

In simmons’ article today he mentions the Knicks signing Arenas. I hate that idea. Would much rather play Shump.

His Aaron Brooks idea was a little tasty though. But I’m thinking we need forwards a bit more.

  6. Ric Bucher during this NBA Preview on ESPN tonight said that the more important loss for the Mavericks is Barea not Chandler. WOW. Another reason why I unfollowed him on Twitter lol

  7. Of course, they just did a Fact or Fiction asking if the Knicks are championship contenders and the mocking and laughing ensued. I mean why ask that question?? At least Broussard was rational and talked about how this season they will be a dangerous playoff team who can upset a team like the Heat. But I mean asking that question is not fair, just an easy way to further mock the Knicks.

They praise all these other teams who have improved like the Pacers and Clippers but the Knicks get criticized and mocked because they arent championship contenders right now??

  8. Jafa: Love the video. Thanks Mike.On a sad note, here is NJ’s starting 5 for the preseason game agaisnt the Knicks:C: Brook LopezPF: Shelden WilliamsSF: Damion JamesSG: Anthony MorrowPG: Deron Williams http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/new-jersey-nets/post/_/id/2634/johnson-announces-starting-five-for-saturdayI feel so bad for Deron Williams.

I hate lying to myself. 8 months ago, I convinced myself that Shelden Williams could play a little D and rebound and be decent if given regular burn. Now I can admit that he sucks and feel better about myself.

  9. As far as forward help — I hope D’Antoni is forced to play Balkman and some sort of Mr. Intangibles reputation catches on.

  10. Marc Berman: Baron Davis will become an unrestricted free agent momentarily, according to Cleveland beat writer Finnan. 1 minute ago

  11. So Arenas, Bogans, and Baron are all out there and should be available for the min. Would any of these be interesting to us? I’m sure Baron is. But what about Arenas or Bogans?

  12. BBA and others–I know and you know that the Knicks are going to be good. How good, I can’t predict. We don’t need no stinking ESPN to validate or invalidate what we know. ESPN is a national media outlet. It is the USA Today for sports. Ripping the Knicks, the football Giants, and other aspects of NYC sell to the general ESPN audience. They are not New Yorkers and most of their audience perceives the Knicks as I perceive the Dallas Cowboys. That’s how it makes money. I hate to be crude, but screw ESPN.

  13. Even if the Knicks start out 10-0 all they are going to talk about is how easy the schedule is.

  14. So Baron Davis does what John Hollinger said had 0.01% chance of happening? Ha! He was so damn pleased to tell all us knick fans it could never happen too. Poor bastard.

  15. I’m basically wondering if we can sign Baron, and still offer the full 2.5 mil room exception to someone.

  16. Don’t think anyone has brought up this idea yet so I want to throw it out there. Haven’t checked the stats, but how about Outlaw with the room exception as our backup 3/4? He’s athletic and plays defense. I definitely remember him hitting a game-winning shot or two with Portland (not that that means anything, but the eye test is a start and you guys are better with the stats). Obvious he was a joke at 35 mil for 5 years, but for 2.5 mil? Bargain? I think he rebounds well too if I remember correctly (and I might not be…)

  17. No, signing someone for vets min is separate from an exception, so it doesn’t preclude still using room exception on another player if we sign Baron for $1.4 M or whatever the vet’s min is this season.

  18. I think if we go into season with Outlaw at $2.5 M per and Baron for vet’s min I would be pretty pleased with the summer haul and ready to go!

  19. Wait, so we signed Bibby for vet’s minimum, can still sign Baron for the vet’s minimum, and can still offer the full room exception?

  20. Baron Davis vs. Gilbert Arenas one on one in Rucker Park for the last Knicks spot. We can have Jim Gay do the play by play

Is there an online link up to watch today’s practice broadcast earlier on MSG today?

Yeah, I’m gonna need that as well. Pretty sure azzav isn’t going to have that.

  22. @25 & 41 – F*** Gilbert Arenas (frustration directed at Bill Simmons, not at you guys). The chance that he’ll bounce back is not worth the distraction.

  23. DS:

I would agree with you if it was like an MLE type player, but for a min contract how bad could it be? I mean you bring him in with a zero BS policy on him and the first time he’s a distraction you just cut him.

  24. Veteran minimum contracts are unlimited. That’s one way that capped out teams can always add players.

So the Knicks still have the $2.5 million exception even if they sign Baron Davis to the vet minimum.

ha, so funny because he was my favorite Knick in his first stint here, and I totally forgot he was back on the roster. at least he can play backup SF in an emergency, I feel a bit better about the roster composition now.

next up, Baron and Outlaw on veteran minimum deals, please, they’re both getting paid plenty already. that would be a team to go to war with, if they can all stay healthy.

  26. ha, so funny because he was my favorite Knick in his first stint here, and I totally forgot he was back on the roster. at least he can play backup SF in an emergency, I feel a bit better about the roster composition now.

It really is kind of hilarious that I, too, who love Balkman, presume that he is so buried by D’Antoni that I never even consider him as being on the roster. He would be a pretty decent backup 4 in this system.

  27. Being a former Gamecock I had pretty high hopes for him too, but now, idk I really don’t ever see him having much of a role.

  28. I would not be interested in Outlaw. I live in Portland so I’ve seen him play a lot and he is not good. He is incredibly athletic but is a poor rebounder and a lazy defender. He will make an amazing block and then be out of position 3 plays in a row make a huge dunk or clutch three pointer and then chuck up 3 bad shots.
He is a combo forward who is 6’9″ yet only averages 5.5 reb/36 on his career with a 50.4% TS%. I would prefer Walker or Balkman getting the minutes he would get if we signed him, hell I would prefer a random d-leaguer getting minutes over him. Say no to Travis Outlaw. At least he probably won’t make it past waivers.
