Lucky you – by sophomore year my son was in calculus and I could no longer help with his homework. Somewhat embarrassing, but hey, calculus was my senior year and I let that rope slip a bit in the second semester…

It’s calculated just from the cost of food, and is not at all a good measure of poverty now. It’s hard to say what a good measure of the poverty rate is, but whatever it is, more people are poor than the official poverty rate says are poor..
