He got away with his meddling this summer in the court of public opinion because everyone was delirious and no one understands the second apron. He also had good cover because Mitch has injuries, can’t hit free throws, and had the broken pinky on the eve of the finals.

He will not have that cover with Deuce. And if he cries poor when we’re not coming off a championship, he’s not going to have enough security at MSG to throw out all the people who are agitating him.

If KAT does take 4/180 starting next year, we could make Deuce fit. But that’s a $16M pay cut for KAT in that first season.

He also signed his contract in 2024 before the squeeze began. ~$10M still seems right for Deuce.

When we first had this conversation, you guessed $6-$8 million. So you’ve already revised it up. I still think the non-taxpayer mid-level is a good baseline.

Joe’s worth $12M

Joe is getting paid $12M. I’m not sure that’s his worth. OKC had Joe under contract for $2.1M option. Part of the negotiation was declining that option.

He effectively got 3 extra years for $15M/yr and skipped the risk of a down year to get the guaranteed money.

Without that leverage, Joe probably holds out for a better offer.
