ballmer has no right to arbitration and would have an incredibly high burden to overcome to prevail in court. a true hail mary. he would very likely have to show not merely that nba failed to prove its case, but rather that the process was somehow arbitrary and capricious, ie in bad faith. he certainly might still apply the maximum pressure he can, which would be about airing whatever dirty laundry they can find or confabulate (i hear uncle dennis is open to new opportunities) and keeping the issue alive in the media. the clippers obviously love that tactic even if they apply it with the adroit touch of tracy flick. but their leverage over the nba here is still prettt flimsy unless they have some extortion worthy ammo in the holster on the league.

Ballmer is going to fight this tooth and nail. I’m guessing that either there is a settlement before it goes to arbitration or that it will actually be put in the hands of the arbitrator. Ballmer has money to throw away on a potential legal loss, so it would probably be smart for Silver to meet somewhere in the middle.
