I did not realize Cone was a broadcaster, I bet he’s good. (I used to read his column in Newsday when I was a kid, he strikes me as a Steve Kerr type polymath)

Yang seems un-good, and they’d have to give us a whole hell of a lot more to trade Deuce away to them. Agree that they have a surplus of centers, but their surplus is far inferior to Dallas’ surplus.

My main worry about the trade is perhaps Yang really isn’t good, despite his high draft position and all the hype.

I found a trade for a known center that actually works in the trade machine and gives us a young big man, but I’m not sure I like it, so I am throwing it out here for discussion. It’s trading Miles McBride for Yang Hansen. Portland has Clingan, Williams and just acquired Branden Carlson, so not only would they still have three centers, but acquiring Carlson suggests they don’t plan to use Yang. McBride is great for us, but we have other guards. Portland could use a defensive minded guard. McBride is more established in the NBA, so maybe we could also get a pick or two.

I am going to be very surprised if Risacher ends up a star but clearly the Mavs see something.

Interesting report about the “Dort” trade from Zach Lowe:

According to Zach Lowe of The Ringer, the Mavericks wanted Risacher but didn’t have the assets to make it happen. So, they got the Thunder involved, and it was off to the races from there.

“From what I had heard, Dallas was knocking on the door about Risacher when it seemed like the Hawks might be amenable, and they had to find a third team because the Mavs did not have much of what the Hawks wanted,” Lowe said on a recent episode of his podcast.

“In came Oklahoma City, who is now under the second apron, and the Hawks picked off two of the Oklahoma City casualties.”

The whole came about because Dallas wanted Risacher, rather than because OKC wanted to move Dort.

Cone is probably the single most analytics-familiar person in all of MLB broadcasting, and I’ve always found it kinda funny because it could be construed as self-serving.

(I think he’s a genuinely smart guy and a great announcer who arrived at all of his conclusions on the merits)
