Seriously, yes. Why wouldn’t I be, in general? Plus, in our specific case, it’s been so long since we had a high draft pick that worked out that it would feel really good to have this kind of hope for one. (Of course, we’d be paying him a lot more, but I’d still be enjoying his development just as much.)

I can’t tell if this was the response that you were expecting, or the opposite of it, but there you go.

Lots of 2nd rounders show glimpses of potential, I think it’ll take more than what he’s shown to make a team try and outbid us.

I think you are going to be in for a fairly rude awakening this summer. 6/9 225 lb 20 yr olds with insane reach and can shoot from distance as well as handle the ball aren’t exactly common. I don’t see him signing for a minimum or a Deuce styled contract.

I might be alone on this but I doubt Landry or Mo get much more than the minimum next year.

I’m pretty sure Shamet has earned something closer to the mid-level, or at worst a Yabu kind of contract. He’s young enough that some of these teams now trying to compete could look at his great shooting and decent defense and feel that he’d provide the kind of cheap production that helps their younger players grow into their roles.

Mo is an interesting question. I don’t think it can be answered until the end of the season – I mean, look at where he is today compared to three months ago! Maybe he stops growing… Or maybe he continues to improve at his current rate and plays real minutes in the playoffs. Who knows?

But your final point is that we can keep them if we want, and I agree with that. I just think we’re likely going over the second apron unless we make a move or two. Which might be ok: we’d be in the playoffs every year for a few years, with a chance to go far. But it would likely put a championship out of reach.
