I could be mistaken but I think the driving force behind all those egregious trade downs was getting the money to consummate the Mikal Bridges trade. IIRC Leon couldn’t even hold the line at giving Brooklyn his 5 best first rounders. He also agreed to throw in enough cash to cover Shake Milton’s salary, which compelled him to make all those bad trades in the ’24 draft.

Hell, just look at the all-rookie teams every year; they’re littered with guys who never amounted to anything while All-NBA players don’t even make the list. In 2019, SGA was all-rookie 2nd team (with Landry Shamet) while Ayton and Bagley were 1st team.
