I spent 60 minutes getting increasingly frustrated as ChatGPT kept give me progressively worse config files for a Linux issue. It continually vacillated between blaming me and blaming itself, as it kept producing variations of the same error strewn config.

It then proceeded to tell me that the issue was the version of the software I was using, gave me wrong instructions to compile the software, then kept blaming my os for the issues.

It turned out I already had the latest version of the software even though ChatGPT confidentially told me the issues with it's produced files wasn't as a result of it, but rather issues with my versioning

I said maybe next time, opened Google search and the 2nd result had a config that worked without issue. That page was over 10 years old, and yet still Artificial Intelligence couldn't just present that to me in a prettier way.

For writing a script for a specific task in my day to day cloud computong job, AI is becoming less useful not more. I shudder to think what happens when all interactions are ceded to AI

Geo, I’m telling you the opposite. It’s more likely to be true because I copy-pasted your words directly into the prompt (and because you’re wonderful).

If I ask it to “read Knickerblogger and tell me about geo”, I’ll get a crap answer. But if I paste 2,000 words you actually wrote and say “tell me about the person who wrote this” I’ll get a detailed and accurate reply.

It will also take a longer time to process the second question, presumably bc it’s actually reading the words.
