KDP was a negative asset, so I think the draft assets make more sense when you figure they’d need to attach a pick to dump him.

Bane was pretty much the perfect addition for Orlando, and might make them a legit contender if everyone stays healthy. Still, as we all know, they were desperate to get Bane, and when you’re desperate, you pay a lot.

They have to hope that their desperation works out.

Well it sure didn’t this time. Maybe next year!

Anyway, I’ll leave the back and forth here for posterity. My hope is that Leon sees things for what they are, and doesn’t just run it back with the same core 7 plus a couple of tweaks and a new coach. If he does, I’ll be happy to re-visit this thread next year at this time.

PS: no team has ever come back in the conference finals after losing the first 2 games at home. For all intents and purposes, the series was over when we lost game 2, the rest of the series was a formality. That’s history talking, not me.

They lost two in a row at home. Most importantly, they lost game 2 which was a must win for them. I doesn’t matter how competitive it was. They got totally out-executed when it counted.

Not having the resiliency to bounce back from a tough loss when you have the home crowd behind you is not an excuse, it’s a feature. Take OKC, they lost game 1 at home to Indy in similarly heartbreaking fashion. But unlike the Knicks, they bounced back and handily won game 2 to tie the series. Then they lost game 3. But again, unlike the Knicks, they came back and won a tough game 4 on the road to tie the series again.

That’s what a competitive series looks like.

Everybody seems to be saying the next Knicks coach will be expected to win the East. But when a coach is fired because he has worn out his welcome with the players the standard should be don’t get worse. I think it’s fair to say we more depth or something like that to be significantly better next season, but Pitino is right, fans and the press are going to expect improvement from the new coach even without an improved roster anyway

I think the Pacers would have come out with a different energy in games 3 and 5 if they didn’t have a commanding lead in the series.

The series was close, but I don’t think we can impute our two actual wins into a hypothetical scenario where Hali’s shot bounces out in game 1.
