Even if he’s worth a first, the Lakers had defensive issues before they traded Davis for Doncic. That trade made them worse defensively (possibly substantially). From what I am reading, Williams’ best attribute is his athleticism and ability to score around the rim but he’s not a plus defender (but I don’t know his game). This could be a case of getting a good deal on an up and coming C, but the wrong C for Lakers right now. Unless of course the goal is to win games 145 -140.

I don’t know Mark Williams game at all, but the Lakers desperately needed a defensive anchor in the middle unless they are hoping to win games 145-140. I’ve seen people whose opinion I respect say this was a steal for the Lakers and others say this was selling high on Willams and a good deal for Charlotte.

Those picks the Hornets got will be garbage, this is the Lakers a team who just gets star after star. Mark Williams needs to stay healthy, but he was very solid when he was motivated back in College on Duke and then the Hornets happened.
