The minutes distribution was better, but since Mikal was playing so well we probably should have given him more than 27 and cut down on KAT’s (coming back from being out) and OG’s (general conservation) just a little bit. This might have gotten the win well in hand a few minutes earlier than it ended up being.

Thibs isn’t that great at “playing the hot hand.” When Payne scores in bunches like he did the other night against Minnesota, he might want to give him a little more time than he did in the second half.

I may regret this post because Payne can drive me crazy at times, but I think we need to find a way to get him more minutes. His minutes with Brunson have been good. So maybe that’s a way to get a few more minutes rest for Bridges when he’s having an off night and also get more minutes for Payne.

I believe Z-Man spoke about this 30 game stretch being a good test. We are 10 games into it.

I really liked this win because we didn’t play our best game. KAT was reduced to a iHart clone on O, but made some very nice defensive plays (some egregiously bad ones too but a better ratio than most games.) We didn’t shoot particularly well from 3 and they made 43% of theirs, so we overcame the 3pt variance trap. The 3 wings plus the bench mob did a great job on D. And the Captain was a monster, he fucking destroyed maybe the best young wing defender in the NBA.

We are now 4-6 in that 30-game stretch….not great, but 4-3 in our last 7 and hopefully we won’t let down tomorrow. Then the mid-season gauntlet continues.

On an actual basketball note (remember when we had basketball arguments?), I couldn’t watch the game but I looked at the box score and was shocked by the minutes played. Thibs actually played four bench players significant minutes (59 minutes total) and the bench scored 24 points. Not huge numbers compared to other team’s benches but still very respectable. The minutes seemed to come from Bridges and, far from slowing him down, he had 26 points on 17 shots in 27 minutes. Thibs should try this more often.
