They have a shorter apolipoprotein than LDL particles and are much larger and less dense and therefore far less atherogenic because they are too big to easily get under the intima of arteries, especially the coronary arteries. Their half-life in the circulation is around an hour while the half life of LDL particles in in days.

Sugar is far more atherogenic than butter.
