I’d need to see a video breakdown on these purported differences in screen quality between iHart, Mitch, and other Cs before concluding that there is any difference in the quality of the actual screens. My guess is that any important difference is in what iHart does subsequent to setting a screen, but I’m certainly persuadable.

I’m small but a pretty good screener. What I find is setting screens is an art that requires making audibles in the course of an offense if they’re not being explicitly called for. Setting a good screen involves assessing how to maximize your surface area without committing a foul, and that requires a lot of quick reading of the floor. Also, it involves decision making—since you need to decide whether to hold the screen, pop, or dive. It seems to me to be less about physical ability—though being wide helps—and more about positioning yourself in just the right way or reading when your screen is going to result in a real opportunity. In that sense, it’s at least as much about feel as it is about size or athleticism.

all these discussions about losing isaiah is making me wonder if him leaving is more significant to the team than adding mikal…

I’ve wanted mikal on the team for years…

the center position sure seems like a point of weakness heading in to the season – is that though just because we are so strong now at the other four positions?

considering I’ve watched this team go a decade without a starting point guard, I’m kind of confident at some point this season we’ll solidify the situation…

my vote is to try to add jonas valanciunas during the season…

I also find that stat surprising.

It’s very difficult to set good screens in my experience. I played a ton of ball and never felt good at it, especially in less structured moments of games when we were out of the set offense.

Maybe a lot of guys come up as ball dominant stars and don’t have much experience with it? Did Eddy Curry set a lot of screens in high school?

We are going to miss IHart in a lot of ways but there was no keeping him

Mitch only averaged .5 fewer screen assists per game than iHart, which surprised me. He looks worse setting them. maybe being bigger helps.

I-Hart is one of the best screeners in the league. The Knicks (and especially Brunson) are really gonna miss that this season.

My kingdom for a center who can set a good screen. This is another area where Precious has struggled. It’s the main reason I’m intrigued in Hukporti— he is willing to set a good hard screen and that was a big part of his game in Australia.

I mean, it can’t be that hard to teach, right?

It shouldn’t be yet no one has taught Mitch how to set a good one yet…
