Doogie, you are looking at limited stats. There were certain center matchups where Achiuwa was just too small to guard effectively. That said, he definitely should be resigned if we can’t find something better. Maybe Z-man is right and we have a tentative agreement in place pending other matters. I hope so. Also it could be the Knicks are looking at summer league to learn more about their draftees before they act. There aren’t enough roster spots to fit four draftees, Rokas and Achiuwa all on the team. They have to do a trade or waive someone (or just hire them in G league). And it seems like the entire Knicks brain trust is watching all our summer league games in person which suggests they consider them important.

This past season, Isaiah Hartenstein averaged 7.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game for us.
This past season, Precious Achiuwa averaged 7.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in 24.2 minutes per game for us.

Hmmmmmmm....... Didn't we kind of already find our iHart replacement?

"One thing I don’t understand. If the plan is to go into the season with what we have since a replacement for iHart isn’t available at a price we can pay, why haven’t we re-signed Achiuwa?"

My guess is that Precious has a verbal agreement for a deal that is at or above market value, and the hold-up is because Leon is pursuing possibilities that require maximum salary flexibility. Once a deal is struck, it either has to be with the taxpayer MLE or the remaining money below the second apron. My understanding is that either option, once it is committed to, limits possibilities in some way.

Is this advisable? Might Precious get cold feet? It is certainly possible, but I think it is unlikely, at least in the short term. I don't think the market for Precious is strong enough for the Knicks not to be able to match or beat another offer.

It's also still possible that he can be overpaid and then used for outgoing salary in a sign-and-trade scenario. If he is signed now and it isn't a sign-and-trade, my understanding is that he can't be traded until December 15. Is that correct?

I've asked that same thing about 15 times, but haven't really gotten a definitive answer. Not that I expect that anyone on here *should* have a definitive answer, but I find it confusing and a little disconcerting that we haven't signed him back yet, too.

Barron actually played in 8 regular season games for us, not 7. He played in the last game of the 2012-2013 season for us and got 11 and 18 against the Hawks. :-)

Totally missed the game, but will try to catch up if I can find a replay. The Athletic is more pessimistic than ESPN. They have us sixth, just below the first tier of five contenders in a tier call “brink of contention”. The Pelicans, 76ers and Bucks were just below us in the same tier at positions 7, 8 and 9, respectively. See

Yeah Z-Man I mentioned how guys with actual NBA experience even if they are scrubs can dominate SL games. Roddy was a late 1st rd pick 2 yeara ago and has played in 135 NBA games.

Washington JR is ball hogging for the Knicks but he's scored a bunch of pts and has 79 games of NBA experience. Charlie Brown JR last year was by far the best Knick in their awful SL team but he had played in 41 NBA games and it was noticeable how much better and poised he was than his teammates.
