Thx @JK47. Always appreciate your music and hoops posts.

I got the newest Cali 76 pedal like a month ago. The goals (with opposite settings of course):

1) I wanted to get a bit more sustain out of the single coil “high gains” on my Rickenbacker 360, ideally for a fatter blues/jazz sound on the neck. This does work surprisingly well and still keeps the sparkle (as you point out) of the already chiming tone of the Rick. I’m just not convinced it’s the right effect choice compared to a high quality reverb. Or else I should prolly just pony up the money for a proper ES 335 and quit pretending with the Rick. Haha.

2) The other goal is to better simulate that funky quack of a proper Strat like you said. The pedal does indeed help my Rick do this if I squeeze the attack/release settings. I like Cory. I think you got me listening by mentioning Wulfpeck (?) which I realize is a kind of backwards way to find him.

Best thing IMO, I can dial in the dry sound, so the effect doesn’t ever take over as a binary “one sound” if you know what I mean. I can make it do as little or as much as I wish. Nice.

Overall the pedal is also beautifully made, but it may be too subtle for my amateur ears, and is prolly overkill for me just messing around with friends. Haha.

Thx again for your guitar thoughts.

Oh, and Knicks-wise, let’s draft some new talent. Trade up. Get someone special. I feel like all the vets are “known” knowns and not particularly exciting. Even in a weak (?) draft, I want Leon to show some skill on the draft side of his ledger.

thanks hubie, i get the money and better shooter thing...

julius versus lauri...if his shoulder can hold up, i like julius' physical play in terms of rebounding and going to the rim...

also, lauri's not a good defender...i don't think of him as soft, but more a finesse type player...plus the assets to acquire lauri...

well, after mikal i would have liked caruso, that's not happening...we shall see with OG, hopefully it doesn't hinge on PG13...

when comparing julius’ stats to lauri’s – are there a few key stats to focus in on?

why is lauri a better fit on the knicks than julius?

lauri’s an interesting young player with a lot of different skills…i’m sort of, kind of lauri curious in regards to julius…

It’s mostly about shooting & money, Geo.

Randle’s a 32% 3P shooter in the three seasons since his empty-gym outlier. The spacing we’d have with Brunson, Donte, OG, Markkanen would be devastating.

Lauri’s also 3 years younger. Though I did just notice he has an OG-like availability record.

The money is huge, though. With Randle & Bojan at $50MM we are too close to the 2nd apron to afford depth.

With Markkanen at $18MM, we could add someone like Caleb Martin with the MLE, someone like Dennis Smith Jr with the BAE, bring back Precious & Burks, and use both our picks.

Compressor pedals are tricky. Most classic guitar compressor pedals (I have a Keely that fits this description) are pedals that really clamp down on the attack, giving you what I’d describe as “bite.” Useful in funk applications. Cory Wong, an icon of funk playing in this era, swears by his Wampler Super Ego pedal. Said he tried every compressor pedal under the Sun and went with that one. What he likes about that pedal is that it doesn’t thin out one’s tone, and in fact seems to fatten up his tone whilst compression.

Compressors in the 1176 style (FET compressors) are trendy at the moment. The 1176 is the most iconic recording studio compressor, and it comes in rack format. They are ubiquitous in recording studios. To me, the 1176 is as much of an EQ as it is a compressor, as it adds a distinctive kind of “sparkle” and clarity to the source sound. But putting an 1176 in pedal format seems a little counterintuitive to me, since what you are usually compressing with an 1176 is a MIKED signal— you’re usually compressing the signal coming through the microphone that is on the speaker cabinet. Compressing the signal as part of a pedal chain before it comes through the amp is not really a traditional use of an 1176 compressor.

But I dunno, maybe it sounds cool anyway! It’s really that clear, sparkly character that makes an 1176 a magical box, so if the Origin Effects pedal is getting you that sound, you got a winner.
