Brad Steven’s first move as POBO was to trade Kemba Walker and the 1st round pick that became Alperen Şengün for 34 year old Al Horford. There are so many ways that could have gone wrong, but it didn’t. To mis-quote Marvin Dorfler “is he good, or is he lucky? Fuckin’ A, he’s the best.”

I agree with most of this. My main qualm is the suggestion that Jrue is close to being washed up. He just turned 34, is in excellent health, and is not a big-3 kind of player on this team…he can coast and stay healthy. There is zero reason to believe that he will age any less gracefully than Al Horford.

Well, first, I didn’t say he was anything even close to washed up. I said he’s 34. So imo it’s fairly likely he’s going to start inching down. Typically, that means he won’t be as impactful as consistently.

Horford is getting close to 40.

So two critical players to their success this year will inching down while a lot of the other contenders (other than maybe the Bucks who are getting older) will be inching forward.

So the “gap” is not insurmountable.

They have great management and some assets to go along with Tatum and Brown who are both young enough for another variation on this team. That’s not a tough retooling. But they still will have to do it as successfully as they built this team to keep the same gap between them and the rest of us.

level 70 now in Fallout 76…got the Hellcat armor, but haven’t picked up any mods for it yet (gotta have the jets)…collecting gold bars now for the plans…

do most stuff in non power armor gear though, but yeah, when the going gets tough, either one handed or two handed melee in power armor will solve most situations…except for the flying stuff, need fire and forget missile launchers for those…

They could take a small step backwards next year. We have a couple of obvious holes on the bench that can be filled. That will give us a punchers chance against almost anyone. To get to that clear cut contender status we also need an upgrade in the starting lineup somewhere. Finding that player and fit is why they pay Leon the big bucks. Let’s go!”

As to KP, he played a lot more games and minutes in the last 4 years than the guy who might have to be our starting C if we lose iHart to free agency. And he’s not even 29 yet. Neither is Brown or Tatum. And Derrick White turns 30 in a few days.

And they have some draft assets to make moves to replace Horford and shore up their bench. Brad is probably not going to stand pat. They also no longer have to worry about being perceived as chokers, or about whether Brown and Tatum are compatible.

Leon definitely has his work cut out for him, as do all the other execs in the East.
