Ben, just stop. You’re way over your ski’s.

In what way? I am legitimately curious.

We have no way to know if Grimes would still be hurt, and if he was healthy he'd most likely be pretty helpful right now.

We traded Obi for nothing of value and could have easily kept him and still signed DDV and traded for OG.

We didn't need to move Grimes to turn Fournier into a non-expiring contract.

Bojan and Burks are not helping our team at all right now.

We signed one waiver wire pick-up and then kept 5 players who are neither future prospects nor helpful right now.

Where am I wrong? How am I out of line?

We are doing a lot of things right as a team but these are all clear and foreseeable errors.

Obi is the loss that really stings here, doubly because it's our adversary's direct gain. If he's unplayable because he can't defend and rebound, bringing on Bogie is an extremely questionable alternative. Obi's line of 18/7/3 per-36 on 68% TS compares favorably to anything Bogie's ever done.

Grimes was shooting 21% from the field and 14% from 3 for Detroit. He also sat a bunch of games before getting shut down. So I’m pretty sure he was actually hurt.

I don’t doubt Grimes was hurt but it was 6 weeks ago so I think there is a good chance he’d be healthy by now since the problems were muscle soreness and not anything structural. I’m not sure at all but the chance he’d be helpful is a lot higher than Bojan and probably higher than Burks as well.

Part of that Detroit trade was salary cap related though as well. That wasn’t just a personnel decision. Have to keep that in mind too.

Barely. If we had wanted to turn Fournier’s contract into a non expiring one we could have very easily without moving Grimes or two 2nd round picks. Or Fournier might have been okay with us picking up the option since he’s not likely going to get another big contract, I would want to check though.

There is a scenario where we kept both Obi and Grimes and they were on our bench right now and we would be much better for it. We got no future value in return for them and the present value we got is injured or trash or both and now with our injuries and having to watch Obi carve up our bench it is a tough reminder of unforced errors. Most likely done to avoid having to answer extension and minutes questions and not for basketball reasons at all.

The only real benefits would be to (1) keep Burks's salary for trade purposes; (2) cut Grimes's $4M salary; or (3) trade Bojan post-draft so the receiving team can buy him out for $2M.

I find the last one most compelling but also suspect nothing comes of it.

Leon seems to like doing good by players, and moving Grimes & Fournier probably falls under that category.
