The polite way of engaging with that comment, swift, is to not that the phrase should not be “whoa is me” but “woe is me,” as in, “woe to those who point out the splinter in someone else’s eye while ignoring the plank in their own.”

Winners don’t go around saying “oh whoa is me.” We’re not the first team to lose a key player for the playoffs and we won’t be the last. There’s nothing “knicksian” about it. It’s part of the game.

But we’re not winners… we’re Knicks fans. Winning is a strange and foreign experience to us.
It’s common to lose a key player for the playoffs, but the Knicksy part is this happening with our one great team in the last 30 years. To our most durable player. Against our most hated rival. And then being made to twist in the wind about it before the shoe drops. With significant spillover effects into next season.

Lebron face the warriors in their first finals without Kevin Love or Irving and still gave them a series.

Ok but we don’t have LeBron, a top 3 player of all time.

The players available aren’t taking this attitude, so why should we?

Are they not? You saw Hart’s quote the other day. Our team is tired and burning out, and the news that the much awaited cavalry isn’t coming has to be highly demoralizing.

The team has plenty of picks and a good cap sheet.

I don’t buy into the idea that Donovan Mitchell is some sort of defensive death knell. If DDV can play in the backcourt with Brunson then so can Mitchell.

Let opposing defenses try to deal with a Brunson/Mitchell backcourt backed by the defensive oriented players we already have in the fold. Push the chips in. YOLO.
