Thibs going off about the refs in the postgame

Thibs has a point, but this not all. This was a horrible first half defensive display by his team. 38 and 36 Spurs points in the first two quarters, along with 50% 3pt shooting (almost all shots were wide open) says it all. His players were getting beat off the dribble time after time and defensive rotations were not working. There were no closeouts on 3pt shots, no one even in the same zip code. Whenever someone was trying to close out on the perimeter, they were getting blown by as if they were not there. They were giving up fast breaks, backdoors, even the baseline and there was no help behind. And so on and so forth. It was a mess.

The team did get it together in the second half, and this is why Thibs has a point, but the game shouldn’t have been close to begin with. The Knicks should have taken care of business against a rebuilding/tanking team but they failed to do that.

Frustrations aside the Knicks were due for a game like this, on the road against a shitty team but a team that’s actually trying unlike their recent opponents. Fact is they need OG and Randle back, hopefully they can play in a few games prior to the playoffs but the more games they miss the less likely it seems Randle will be back.

At least OG showed even not healthy he’ll have a huge impact simply with his defense, not sure what Randle will be able to provide if he returns.

I get the complaints about FT disparity. But the Knicks should focus on themselves first. They should have come out of the gate with assertiveness and aggressiveness, and showed this young Spurs young team who is superior. Instead, they were lazy, hypnotized in the first half, dug themselves a 21-point hole, and had to spend a huge amount of energy trying to mount an unsuccessful comeback in the second half and overtime. All this ahead of playing four games in eight days against the Thunder, Heat, Bulls, and Bucks. This Knicks team is normally smart, but not tonight. I blame the coaching staff on this one. They should have prepared the team better.
