I get the Melo comp for Paolo, but there are some pretty significant differences in style and offensive polish (meaning Melo was more advanced imo), and especially in size. In that respect, he’s more like Amar’e, or sort of a hybrid of those two. He’s a long 6’10” and carries 250lbs without looling soft and paunchy like Melo did early on. He reportedly has a 7’1″ wingspan and 40″ vertical and runs the floor like a gazelle. I remeber the first time we played against him and being surprised at how big and athletic he looked, I didn’t remember feeling that way when I watched him in college.

Even if he tops out at a Julius Randle-level of skill, which seems like kind of a floor, a taller, longer, more athletic Julius is a fearsome proposition.

paolo looked super raw for team usa, he started playing better towards the end…he has the tools…

he has some good teammates…3 or 4 years from now he could be impactful…they have him cheap for another year or two…

Yeah, that makes sense. It’s easy to forecast some growth for Paolo but he still has to actually do it.

I think Banchero is gonna be really, really good. I was being somewhat literal (hope Doogie isn’t around) when I said the hype train has left the station early. He’s not that good just yet.

I would also definitely take Chet over him both now (obviously) and going forward (less obviously). Chet’s ceiling might be slightly lower, though even that I feel is up for debate, but we literally already know Chet can be a key player on a contender. That’s TBD for Paolo.

So if whichever “conference” wins the allstar game gets home court advantage in the finals – does that make a difference?

i think they should just have an allstar team and have them play the harlem globetrotters at this point.

If Banchero’s 3 point shooting is for real he’s going to be absolutely fine. He’s still got bad shot selection inside the arc but he only has to clean that up a little to be a good player. I was down on him coming out of college but he’s been pretty damn nice for a 21 year old this year.

Strat, Julius had ankle surgery, which limited his ability to stay in game shape. And now he had a serious shoulder event, which OG had a minor elbow procedure, so that should make his recovery much faster.

Faster is a relative term.

They aren’t playing or shooting at all while out. At best they are doing a little conditioning work. They aren’t going to get cleared for basketball activity and then come back immediately. They will be worked back into game shape. Then they won’t be 100% immediately when cleared to actually play in games. It doesn’t work that way. Guys miss a couple of games with a tweaked ankle or knee and it sometimes takes some time to get back to 100%. IMO it’s going to take each of them a minimum of a several games after they are cleared to get their legs, wind, and shot back (other than maybe an adrenaline game in their first one back). We still have a way to go even if they are talking about Randle/OG being evaluated in another week or so.

much like Carmelo out there for my tastes. Otherwise, this Orlando team would be fun to watch grow.
