"I was also worried it meant the front office wasn’t committed to keeping IQ and Grimes which I was correct about."

But the question is, was the FO correct to not be all that committed to keeping them? It depends on how good they turn out to be, doesn't it? And in IQ's case, it depends on how much he signs for, doesn't it? Because my take is that they felt that IQ was not worth signing for the $25M he wanted, and if they offered any less, he was going to become a RFA, and then who knows, maybe someone offers him $30M? Then you risk either overpaying him or losing him for nothing.

I think the moment that IQ chose not to sign for what the Knicks offered, he was likely to be traded, so it was just a question of return. As to the OG trade, it all depends on how much you value RJ. If he keeps putting up a $600+ TS%, IQ may become an afterthought. But I think Knicks management wanted OG desperately and were not as high on IQ as many here are, and were probably a bit out on RJ and his contract. I also think they were frustrated with Grimes' lack of further development, and did not think he was worth waiting on any longer.

It might be a while before we know how it works out, since stat-padding in big roles on shitty teams doesn't do much for me.

"I may be endowment effecting myself into this, but I don’t think Haliburton’s offense will translate as well in a slower, higher pressure playoff environment. He gets to the rim pretty well, but he doesn’t really have a bag to resort to if the three isn’t falling and the defense is tight. I think Brunson’s game is essentially built for the playoffs, even if it doesn’t yield the highest all in one offensive stats. He’s certainly got the most diverse ways of scoring the basketball in the eastern conference, and he’s at least in the conversation with Lillard for clutchest player in the league. Tampering works!

I’ll take the loss on Donte. I didn’t like the signing. I was worried his shooting in Golden State was a mirage and he wouldn’t be an improvement over IQ and Grimes. I was wrong. He has been fantastic.

I was also worried it meant the front office wasn’t committed to keeping IQ and Grimes which I was correct about. The IQ trade was ultimately worth it because OG is absolutely an improvement and a perfect fit but it didn’t seem we tried too hard to keep IQ out of the trade and then we couldn’t ship out Grimes fast enough. Moving him for mediocre bench depth.

So while the role for an additional bench guard in DDV was limited there was at least minutes and then he far surpassed expectations. There are no minutes for Precious and we’ve had a lot of minutes with him this year so I doubt there is some next level where he ends up better than IHart or Hart or Mitch or Randle.

For Giannis & Embiid, I'll just say that their TS% is inflated from hanging around the rim and receiving passes from Dame & Maxey. Some portion of those are free points & percentage bumps that any tall-ish player could get. Both are assisted on over 50% of their 2pt makes.

Hali, Donovan, & Brunson have only 20-28% of their 2pm assisted.

OEPM puts Brunson in a virtual tie for 7th in the league with Giannis and Booker. That's T-3 in the East after Hali & Embiid.
