The biggest problem with our pair of stars is on the defensive end. Offensively, Brunson is as good as just about anyone and Randle can be very dominant when he is attacking and making quick decisions. The problem is most true superstars are also very good defensively and neither of ours are even close to average.

This means we have to build a team with 7 other players who are all somewhere between very good and elite defensively just to be a pretty good defensive team.

I don’t think it’s hopeless but it is why neither Brunson or Randle will ever be a top 20 NBA player and severely limits how we build our team.

With that said our next move, should be a trade with Brooklyn. Trade Fournier and a load of picks for either Bridges or, if that’s impossible, Johnson and move DDV to the bench and all of a sudden when Robinson comes back we are 10 deep with good size at the wing and lots of shooters.

Let’s not trade picks for rentals like Brogdon or Clarkson. Our bench is good enough for the rest of this year. Any trades should be to move DDV to the bench or upgrade Randle.

a less exciting grizzlies garage sale possibility is xavier tillman. he’s already been relegated behind biyombo and he’s rfa this summer with both adams and clarke coming back. he’s far from perfect, but i would take him over our current back-up 5s assuming the cost was marginal.

From the replay, it sure looked like the bad kind, but he’s spindly, so who knows? I’ve rarely seen a guy get carried off like that for a grade 1 strain, and it wouldn’t shock me if it’s more involved than a strain.
