This is ironic because sometimes I hang out at PCH eateries and try to guess which man in the tesla is Donnie.

I’d have a hard time getting excited about Harden if I were a generic NBA team. He is a long way down from his peak. The defense isn’t great. He’d be a big upgrade for us on RJ. If he wanted to sign for the mid level he would make us a much more interesting team.

But I don’t understand how an NBA team can make paying him 40 million per worthwhile.

My understanding is a new era is dawning where there is going to be a little more gradation in salary and where fewer guys not worthy of the max get it. It’s something people have mused about anyway. Harden seems like an interesting test case.

Hey Geo, writing a million dollar grant proposal based on work I’ve done over the years and largely forgotten about. It’s a peculiar experience, sort of an episode of “This is your life.” Trying to get up enough mojo to go for a run in a bit, maybe hit the gym and work on my four-pack. Otherwise pretty quiet.

Zach Lowe brought up an interesting clause in the CBA on his latest podcast-I forget the exact details but basically Harden has to at least sort of play, if he doesn’t show up he can’t sign as a free agent anywhere without the sixers agreement. Older Harden trying to slow play his way out of town doesn’t feel like a guy who would get a lot of interest in a trade market, especially since he’s already announced there’s only one team he’ll play for.
