Yeah, Carlos has a lot of Maximus energy. He rallies the crowd effortlessly. At the match I saw against Tsitsipas my wife and a few other scattered Greeks were the only people not going nuts for Carlitos.

Owen, I was lucky enough to be there. From my small sample size of the 50 people nearest to me and using the trusted ear-test, I would say the crowd was easily 90% pro-Carlos.

Novak Djokovic says he’s never played a player like Carlos Alcaraz:

The Mets are 29th in MLB in pitching WAR, and Oakland isn’t even attempting to field a major league team, so the Mets have assembled the worst pitching staff in baseball really. You can get rid of Scherzer and Verlander but there’s still nobody left who can get anybody out.

If they want to compete they need to look at those two as back of rotation innings eaters and find real #1 and #2 starters. You could tell the bullpen was going to stink just looking at it on paper, so that also needs a complete overhaul.

As Carlos peaks, Novak will already be gone. Unless someone else young can break through to that elite level, he’s going to be on his own for years piling up majors and becoming a VERY serious threat for a Grand Slam because Nadal won’t be preventing it at the French. Guys like Roger and Novak were versatile and consistent enough on all 3 surfaces to win a Grand Slam , but they were blocking each other and Rafa was always there to pick up a non clay major and block the French if one of them was having a standout year. With those 3 on their way out and this kid versatile enough to handle all 3 surfaces, a Grand Slam seem almost inevitable.

It’s interesting… even though we have only improved our roster marginally—at best—pretty much every team in the Atlantic has gotten worse in the short term except the Celtics (and you could argue that they didn’t get very much better).

Agree.

Beating Novak in a major on grass is a giant confidence booster. Mentally it’s going take him to the next level. He also has to know that at 36, Novak is already past his peak. It’s incredible that any slippage by Novak can’t be even be seen or measured easily. But from here Novak is going to slip very slowly and he’s going to keep getting better. So even if Novak wins a major or two from here, the inevitability of his own dominance over him is close. He has no pressure other than wanting that day to come sooner.
