"It’s not a good day for you if you don’t want to be traded and you are. I can live with that, but that was the original point someone made."

Any day where you and your family is healthy and you are making a days worth of millions of dollars a year is a fucking great day. If they don't see it that way, I personally don't really sympathize even one iota. The NBA is a business and that's what you sign up for. As a diehard fan, I am not at all concerned about it.

"It’s not a good day for the team if the impact on winning of the players that are you are trading is underrated. That’s my point."

Obi's impact on winning is debatable, I'm on the "easily replaceable" side but will keep an open mind...he does have some special gifts, so there's a non-zero chance that he will blossom in Indy's offense. But as things stand, I truly believe that our FO had more to work with in building a contending team as a result of today's transactions.

Honestly strat, what you just posted doesn't resonate with me at all. I'll try to take it point by point.

re: Cam, the problem wasn't that there was a minutes crunch. The problem was that Cam sucked, and Thibs knew it right away. OTOH, when Hart was acquired mid-season, Thibs had no problem finding minutes for him. It didn't matter who those minutes came at the expense of, he made the team better.

As to the other questions about minutes being taken away from IQ, or Grimes, or RJ, if Donte is a better option, he should take minutes away from them. If he isn't, he shouldn't. But either way, Leon can decide who is most important to keep and who should be traded...and that we know that either way, the players we retain will be good players, is kind of cool for a change! The minutes game is a backstory at the moment. Teams are going to want players like IQ, Grimes and Donte. That's what counts.

"i imagine we’re going to split ihart and hart at the 4.."

I am not usually certain about these kinds of things, but I'm absolutely convinced we'll get a backup 4 before the summer is over. I do not think we're going to split a not terribly mobile center and a short guy at the 4.

It's still super early. I have no idea if we're trading one of our glut of SGs or if we pick a 4 off the ol' scrapheap, but we'll have one.

and i wouldn't assume that it's grimes or IQ's minutes that suffers... altho i think grimes is in very big danger of getting fournier'ed if he starts off slow.... it's probably going to be RJ...

a very big part of RJ's role in the offense is that he is another ball handler and offense creator especially with that second unit.... and he was getting a much shorter and shorter leash... divicenzo is a pretty decent initiator himself and while that's probably going to see his efficiency tank a bit... there's going to be plenty of nights where it's IQ hart and divicenzo out there and RJ watching from the bench if he's having one of those nights...

so yea it's a big wake up call to RJ to produce or just be sitting...

But strat, the point is, should anyone here really care about how they feel? (beyond nostalgia, of course…I have that for Obi as well)

There are two points.

1. It’s not a good day for you if you don’t want to be traded and you are. I can live with that, but that was the original point someone made.

2. It’s not a good day for the team if the impact on winning of the players that are you are trading is underrated. That’s my point.

Donte is actually good , and was had for nothing other than cap considerations. I don’t see how it is even remotely comparable to the stupidity that was the Cam deal.

Read what I said. I was not comparing the deals. I was comparing the minutes situation.

Right from the start it was understood there was going to be a logjam at the wing. So how was Cam going to get minutes. That was the very reason he was complaining in Atlanta. It wasn’t thought through.

Now we have 5 players that are SG/SFs and they are all undersized for SF. So it’s similar in that we made a move that makes no sense given the possible minutes allocation.

Do you want to take minutes away from Quick to play DD?

Not me

Do you want to take minutes away from Grimes to play DD?

Not me

Do you think they are going to take minutes away from RJ or Hart?

I don’t think so. It should be RJ, but we already know that’s not happening.

The deal makes no sense at all UNLESS there is going to be another trade to consolidate these guys. That takes me right back to my point about underrating Quickley and Grimes. It better be a damn good deal.

donte's really good and he will challenge grimes for the majority of the 2 minutes... the one problem is his 3pt% which has been wildly volatile but was a great 39% at golden state... and that really was caused by all the catch and shoot opportunities he was given in that offense...

he's not going to get those same looks.... and it's probably likely that we get the bucks version of donte... who was also really good but did things a lot less efficiently....

one other thing to watch is that 2 role has been basically a cookie cutter position in thibs offense... as pointed out many times previously grimes and bullock compiled identical numbers in their time and that's basically operating out of a catch and shoot and hitting pump fake drives...

donte's strengths is that he can operate a pnr which lends itself to some inefficient pullups but also a lot of assists... he was able to retain a lot of those creation opps in that warrior offense but he's not gonna get those same opportunities on the knicks...

so a real risk is what happened with ihart... ihart was used a lot more dynamically in lac... came here and was used in a much more narrow fashion and his production suffered.. namely his assist totals... and there's a big possibility that donte comes in and is given basically the same and only opps that bullock and grimes were given and his assist totals suffer... so you have to count on thibs expanding the offense to accommodate what makes donte good.... and i'm not sure that's going to happen....

"Well, it depends on their desires.

Do they want to stay in NY?

My guess is that neither Grimes or Quick wants to be traded from NY and I don’t want to see it either unless it’s a deal too good to pass up."

But strat, the point is, should anyone here really care about how they feel? (beyond nostalgia, of course...I have that for Obi as well)

Do you think Marcus Smart is happy that he was traded? And he had a lot more cache with the Celts than Grimes or IQ have with the Knicks. But that's a day in the life of a NBA multimillionaire.
